  1. 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO all stock. Was running ok. Up and down the street. Backfired a little. Took it out to play. While warming it up I forgot to turn on the fuel and it ran down and died. Turned on the fuel and fired it up. No real issues. Upon attempting to go uphill and then through light mud problems began. Became real sluggish and very little power. Started acting like it was starving for fuel. Then it died. During this time my battery was drained. Tried to pull start with no luck until moving/pushing the quad. Back at the shop I checked the fuel filter, fuel lines, carb bowl and all seemed fine. I loosened the fuel cap and it started right up. Let it run for a bit, then was throttling it. Up to 3/4 throttle all seemed fine. Above 3/4 multiple backfires and choking. Also backfired when letting throttle loose. Bike is idling rough. Closed choke and it immediately died. Would not start with choke closed. Took a few tries once choke was open again. Charging issue: Bike is draining battery during use. Battery recharges with battery charger very quickly. I would appreciate any and all help and advice. Thank you in advance for your time.
  2. First of all I would like to thank you everyone in advance for there help. I picked up a 2004 Raptor 350 for $500. There is less then 50 hours on this machine. Its been sitting for most of its life. Its in pretty decent condition. I pulled the carb and cleaned it out. It was full of green corrosion. While I was doing this I notice that the throttle plate was sticking. I looked to see if parts were available separately and nope they were not. I found a 2006 raptor 350 carb on ebay for $65. I received it today and it was even more corroded then the original. So I took all the bowl internals and swapped them over to the 06 carb. I cleaned everything really good. I slapped it on the bike and it runs but its back firing when you give it gas, doesn't want to idle with no choke. I have to apply the choke perhaps 20~30% to keep it at an high idle so it won't die. My question is. Is the 06 carb compatible with 04? They look identical. My next move is to order a rebuild kit. Do I order one for 06 now? Are 04 through 08 the same?
  3. My Quadmaster was getting very hard to start so I put a carb kit in it except the diaphram and float. Now it is running worse, it is stumbling and backfiring. I read some of the threads with similar problems and have adjusted the valves and the float and have checked the carb several times and it still runs awful. I have ordered a new fuel valve and vacuum hose to try that, I took it apart and the diaphram in it looks kind of bad. I have 4 questions: 1. Can the diaphram or float in the carb cause this problem? 2. The needle valve goes through the diaphram assembly and has an E clip with 5 settings,I have it on the middle setting, I didn't pay attention when I replaced it, which setting is the right one? 3. There looks like good fire at the spark plug, could this be an electrical issue? (CDI or Ignition coil, generator) 4. I also left the fuel valve in the PRI position over night and most of the gas went on the ground and evaporated, it did not go into crankcase. The book says this could cause engine damage, what kind of problems can this cause? It runs the same as before. thanks for any help Gary
  4. I own a 1998 Honda 300ex The last two times I rode, probably for about an hour,I shut it off for ten or fifteen minutes and when I went to ride again it backfires and then stalls out. Also the motor seems incredibly hot. Then if I let it sit for a long time it starts and runs fine. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this and what will fix it? Thanks a lot!
  5. Just got a 2000 WARRIOR 350, rAN GREAT AT OTHER OWNERS HOUSE. Brought home, rode all over about 2 days then started cleaning it. then I put pads on back brake & busted caliper but my problem is it will crank and idle good, when i push throttle it spits, pops, and backfires at times. Only thing I did to this ATV was wash the air filter sponge with gas, dry completly, clean screen good and put back on foam on screen at end to eng. might have been damp. thats all I did, any help please. Does anyone have a photo of how to take carb. apart just in case, THANKS
