Hi, just picked up a MOTO 4 YFM255 and want to replace the rear brake pads. How do I get to the back. Guessing I need to remove the brake disk, question any easy way to do this? Thanks

Since I am not much of a mechanic simple things confuse me. How do you remove the old brake cable for the pedal brake from the frame? Thought I could just pry it out but no luck and not much room to work. Any help is appreciated.

Long story short I had to disconnect my right front caliper to do some other work and now that it's all back together I need to refill and bleed that brake line. First time doing this and to the best of my knowledge the only two 'line ends' I'll need to work with are my right handlebar reservoir and the bleed valve on the caliper itself. Considering the caliper I took off are there any other parts on the bike besides these I need to be concerned about? Now insofar as back bleeding vs. top down bleeding goes...I understand that since bubbles rise, only doing a top down bleed leaves open the possibility of leaving some bubbles in the vertical brake line. But since the bleed valve on the caliper is an inch or more above where the banjo bolt brake fluid lines comes in (on my bike anyway) you would have to do at least some top down bleeding to make sure all the bubbles escape from the caliper out the higher positioned bleed valve. Together these two ideas imply that it might be best to do both some top down and bottom up bleeding. Any thoughts? Anybody have a somewhat educated idea of how quickly air bubbles rise in the vertical line between the caliper banjo bolt and the handle? If they rise slowly enough seems like it would be possible to bleed the whole thing by doing only a top down.

Help! Have an 02 Kawasaki Prairie 650.I replaced the belt & when I put everything back together the 2wd-4wd lights would flash back & forth. I read how to reset light, but my ATV doesnt have the black & gray wire connectors where they are supposed to be. Anyone know how to reset lights on this model?

The (haynes) service manual says to use "hi temp brake grease" on the front brake drum (water) seals that go the large circumference of the backing plate to seal against the drum. Is this the same as hi temp wheel bearing grease. Did a google search and found no decent reference to hi them brake grease. What to use?

How is it changing these? The manual elaborates on measurements and cautions about damaging the seal if its mis-aligned.

I cant find help anywhere so Hope this is the place, I traded for a 98 350 bigbear 4x4, has no brakes at all, so I have back brake assembly apart and I think it just needed cleaning and adjustment, theres a thing I guess its called the camshaft that lifts shoes up against drum. it needs adjusting, in back it has this arrow, should the can lay horizontial front to rear or is there a certain position, any help would be great:

Having trouble with rear brake. Removed caliber, plunger was stuck, freed, bled brake, doesnt appear to be any air in line, still no brakes. (question) is there a seperate master cylinder and/or reservoir for rear brake or is one for ft brake also one for rear. If there is a rear master cylinder i would say its bad causing no brake. It applies a little bit, but not enough to do any braking. tks

Does a 1999 arctic cat 250 2x4 have a brake light? Reason I ask is I just got one and the brake light wasn't working. I traced the brake switch wire from the hand brake and its not plugged into the harness not could I find a place to plug it into. I'm wondering if it had a brake light or maybe the harness that it plugs into maybe had been ripped off by previous owner. Any help is appreciated.

Ok so recently I purchased this four wheeler (my first atv) fairly cheap. There are almost no brakes on the rear (barely enough to stop, loading it was a sight!) and the front brake lever has no pressure at all. I'm guessing the front brakes just might need to be bled but i can't find the bleeder screw. The person I bought the atv off of says it is a 1997 model but after inspecting the VIN I have found that it is actually a 1994 model. After knowing this and also knowing that yamaha changed the brakes from discs to drums after 1996 could he have installed the wrong parts? He says he put new pads on the front and back and also a new rear brake cable. Could this be why the brakes are not working? What should I do?

I own a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x2. It has hydraulic drum front brakes and mechanical single drum brake in rear. When I bought the quad a yr ago the brakes barely worked. I installed rebuild kit for brake master cylinder, replaced wheel cylinders up front, front/rear shoes, and replaced rear brake cable. The front brakes grab sort of ok now, but the rear barely grabs at all. On a side note; If I drive through any trails with muddy water, moisture is getting inside the drums. Worse in the rear drum. These drum brakes have never worked great. They slow me down but don't have enough bite to lock up the wheels. Now I have considered my drums may have worn thin, therefore causing the shoes to not make strong enough contact (???) I'm guessing. The front brakes are spooned out so they fit snug and they work just ok. The rears I have adjusted close to the maximum setting for the actuator arm. I read online about a Yamaha 1998 Big Bear 4x4 owner using a 2004 Big Bear 4x4 front disc brakes on it. He did have to dremel and drill out the lower ball joint to make new knuckles fit since the 04 knuckle has it's ball joint on bottom. It sounded cool and the owner claimed it stopped better. I'm considering a conversion, but it sounds expensive. I hate sinking $400+ worth of disc brake parts into a quad a bought for $500, and I already replaced the existing brake parts I previously listed. I'm just tired of my brakes working poorly and every time I get into some water on the trails the drums look like a septic tank inside the next day. I live in FL and this is the land of the Swamp. There is no avoiding mudholes and water. I would like some brakes that could survive any wet conditions. Any suggestions or helpful advice is appreciated.

I replaced the pads on the back of my Warrior late of last year or early this year. Can't remember when exactly. Apparently I bought some crappy pads cause I wore them out already and messed up the rotor some. I have a new rotor and pads to put on but I have a problem. I can't get the Allen Wrench bolts to break loose. I am hoping someone can tell me there is a trick to getting them loose. I could see my allen wrench twisting trying to get them loose. Actually messed up the bolts some.

1994 King Quad 300. I replaced the rear pads a few weeks ago. After I adjust the foot and hand lever mechanisms, I get decent stopping power and the parking brake holds fine. But after just a little bit of use, the brake controls (both foot and hand lever) seem to be out of adjustment again. I'm fairly certain I've got the fastners tight everywhere they need to be, but I can't seem to get this gremlin licked. Any suggestions appreciated.

I've gotten the wheel off, disassembled the brake assembly and gotten the new pads on. Now I'm trying to get the axle back into the hub, and having some trouble. The splines line up, but the axle on goes in until the end of the axle is flush with the hub. It still needs to go another two or three inches to be completely seated. I've tapped at it with a hammer, but I don't want to damage anything. My fear is that a bearing may be worn or loose and the axle isn't centering when I try to tap it in. Any experience/advice shared would be most helpful.

While going on a neighborhood run,I lost my rear brake. Well not lost as in missed placed but my brake pedal went instantly to the lever stop. When I am pushing the atv by hand I can stop the quad with the rear brake but above 15 mph its like i am not using any brake. Rechecked the pads at half way. I have about little more than half way between full and empty marks on the brake resevoir of fluid. Should I bleed or did I just blow out my master cylinder? Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk

I recently replaced the rear shoes on the rear brakes, and it seems that I can't get them adjusted. It's just like when they went out, adjust them to the max. I put in the new springs etc but have to crank the adjusters on the rear axel all the way in and it's still not enough. Is there something I am missing? Any help would be great! Thanks

I bought this quad about 2 months ago and it runs great. When I bought it the guy said all it neede was rear brake pads. I put new pads on it only to come to the realization that the rear master cylinder is frozen. I bought a rebuild kit for the cylinder and had the cylinder working until I put brake fluid into it. I put dot 3 brake fluid in it and tried to mount it and it had seized up again. I tokk it apart again and now the piston won't go back into the cylinder. I was told that the dot 3 brake fluid may have swelled the gasket on the piston. Can this really happen? Any help or suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

Do aftermarket pads such as the sintered ones make that much of a difference in wear/life if you do a lot of mud and water riding? My girl and I both just went through our front brake pads in about 6 months and we only ride about once per month. We rarely ever use our front brakes because we both have the sealed wet rear brake which is more reliable and we do a thorough pressure washing after every ride. Just riding around with mud caked in there wore them down, I guess. I can't believe our pads are gone already.

I have got a 185S three wheeler and i was wondering if anybody knew how to take the rear drum off?
-
Ok we have been riding today and noticed the brakes get progressively worse. I tightened up the cable and they were good for a while, but then about an hours or two later there was no rear brake again. So I took the tire and cover off and noticed about a mm of pad left on each shoe and the smell of burnt wires or something like that. I also noticed that it looked like there is supposed to be some kind of oil or something inside the drum, because there is an o-ring around the brake assembly that the drum cover goes onto, and some oil residue or something inside it. Could anyone possibly give me a walkthrough on how to properly replace the shoes and if there is any oil or something that is supposed be in there. Thanks Mike
