About Me

My Garage

  1. I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this. The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out. Thanks...
  2. Is there some way to adjust the choke cable on these quads? Wont hit a lick with cable in .You can pull choke cable out of the carb putyour finger over the hole and it will fire rite up.LEt your finger off and it will idle high .Put your finger back over the hole and it dies .I have put a new kit in the carb and everythng was done to factory spec .But jst cant figure out whats up with the choke .Any info would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
  3. Let's just say there was a little fire on the old Griz and the carburetor didn't do too well. Is there an aftermarket carb on the market or do I have to go Yamaha to get this? Thanks in advance Shawn
  4. Ok Im new here. I was given a cougar 250 and i put a new carb on it and it will idle great but anything above low rpms spits and sputters. also is this thing suppose to have a fuel pump or just gravity feed from petcock?
  5. I have a 94 sportsman 400. It sat for several years before i got it. I have cleaned the carb it will start and run for about 5 min then it will flood. I have torn it down and cant see anything wrong. has anyone else ran into this problem any hel would be great.
  6. i was wondering if i could get some help. i been trying to locate where the fuel and air adjustment screws are located on my 95 kodiak 400. i think i found the fuel screw.. i know where the throttle adjuster is but i cant find the air screw. or is there an air adjustment on these carbs?
  7. Hello, well back to where I was last year with this carb. Took my 250 to the mountains for the first time this year and blue smoke, too much gas again. I can't believe that this carb gives me this much trouble. Seems like the choke is stuck but the cable moves freely. Anyone else ever experience this issue? Do you think a new choke cable would maybe resolve this?http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/images/smilies/arghh.gif OK it was the choke. Put on all new cable and plunger and she is running 100% again. So now the question is, is the carb getting worn out where the plunger needle goes in the small hole and when I use the choke the needle end doesn't get lined back up with the hole?? We'll see how it runs and now that I know what the issue is I can always pull the choke plunger out and reinstall if I start having this issue again.
  8. Hi Everyone This is my first post and I was wondering if there is anyone who can help me solve a problem I have with my Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 Fitted with a Mikuni Carburetor . The year of the quad is around 1998, the reason I am not sure of the date is, there wasn't any paperwork and no details on the frame either. The quad had a bad leak from the carb overflow which indicated that the float needle valve was blocked or passing so I replaced this and put everything back together. The quad ran really well until I took it onto some rough ground to have a ride around, a few hours later the engine started to run really rough as if the engine was flooding. I have removed the carb again and cleaned the needle valve out and the whole of the carb just in case there where any dirt behind it. Engine now runs fine again but fuel has started to run out the carb overflow again. I have tried everything to try and stop the fuel leaking out the overflow but its still happening. My last thoughts where to adjust the float level and its still happening. Has anyone got any thoughts on the problem or could suggest whats causing the fuel leaking out the overflow. Thanks for reading Kevin
  9. I picked up this quad for my kids and the carb is in terrible shape. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction for the carb model so I can try to source a replacement.
  10. Ok Im new here. I was given a cougar 250 and i put a new carb on it and it will idle great but anything above low rpms spits and sputters. also is this thing suppose to have a fuel pump or just gravity feed from petcock?
  11. My 2005 Arctic Cat 500 started leaking fuel from the top right hand side of the carb. It looks and feels that the fuel is coming from under the throttle cable housing area just above the primer pump. I have not had time to take carb off. Has anyone had a leak on this side and area of their carb?
  12. I am assuming it is leaking from the overflow. Took the carb apart and it is clean inside. Put it back together and gas leaks out the host at the bottom. Tested to make sure the drain screw is not the problem when I had it off.
  13. I have a timberwolf that I love. It sat and the carb got gel from this wonderful ethanol. I cleaned it and put a new kit in it. it always started right off. now it cranks forever before it hits and then it will not idle. set according to instructions 23mm float, 4th notch on the pin, 1 1/2 turns out on the AIS. I have tried tweeking all of these some but nothing seems to make a difference. The biggest problem is that I got it back out because the wife has claimed this bike and now it will not run for her. Any help would sure get me out of a bind.
  14. Does anyone know where I can get the electrical solenoid that works the choke on a Linhai Bighorn 300 ?
  15. I have a badger 80 that seems to have had water in fuel, the carb is pitted bad, I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement carb cheap or if there is any carbs that i can retro fit since everywhere i look wants $85 for a carb on a $400 quad? Any input is greatly appreciated
  16. What should i rejet my carb to when i snorkel it? stock is a 128 main and 35 on the slow jet
  17. I am unable to find the default mixture screw setting for this Mikuni BSR33 carb. The screw only unscrews 4 turns and does not unthread out of the carb, (no way to clean it). When I took the carb apart to clean it the screw was set at 1 turn out. I bought this unit when it was only a few months old from a friend so I know it is the original carb. I know most carbs are set at 2.5 turns out, but would like to find out what this specific carb should be set for.
  18. Sometimes gas will drip to almost steady flow out of the port in the bottom of the carb bowl. Ive taken the carb apart and bent the float, but still, from time to time, gas pours or just drips out. Any ideas?
  19. Hey everyone, I'm new here but stumbled upon the site and I will be posting in the future!! I just recently bought this four wheeler and it was my first atv purchase. I got a pretty good deal as it just needed some TLC and I'm a student on a budget. I really need some help with my carb and I am completely stumped. I bought a rebuild kit because the needle valve was leaking by when the engine was off and causing it to overflow. I rebuilt the whole carb, put it back on and the thing was idling high. Found out later this was because I had the throttle hooked up wrong but I got that corrected. I thought something was wrong with the carb itself so I broke it down and went back through it. The one piece I hadn't changed was the "main nozzle" as it's called on the parts diagram. The throttle needle goes through this before it goes to the jet tube. Well I messed up the new one trying to install it because it would seat into the carb good and ended up having to put the old one back in it. It was a little messed up where I had to drive it out, but just slightly and worked with it for a few and got it back right. I got everything right and put the carb back on and now I'm having a big problem... I cannot get the thing to take any fuel. It will barely idle and if I give it any throttle at all it cuts off. I have taken it off and cleaned it 5 times, made sure the pilot screw was adjusted out to 1 1/4 turns, and it had the correct float height (21-22mm). Also it appears the bowl is getting a decent amount of fuel because every time I take it off and some fuel leaks out of the vent tube there is still a lot of fuel in the bowl. So now I'm just confused and don't know where to turn next... Sorry for all the details but I just wanted to give someone enough info to possible help me! Even if you can't I would appreciate if you could direct me to someone who possibly can! I would appreciate any advice at all!! Thanks again.
  20. Hey all, My Dad's birthday is coming up fast, and I've been wanting to fix his Warrior for him. While he was at SEMA I've gotten almost all of the work done, and now I've hit the last item to fix: the carb. I am so close to having this thing running, but now that I need to take the float bowl off, it won't come. The screws are almost all threaded, I've WD-40'd the sh** out of it... It seems like someone had once thread-locked them in. If anyone has any tips to try, that'd be great... but my bigger question is where can I find a new carb for it online? I don't mind buying a new one, it'd probably make him happier, but If I could get this thing running before his birthday it'd be great. Thanks in advance :cheers2c:
  21. I have a problem with a PZ19 carb (Kazuma 110). I have disassembled and cleaned it and still have a very rich running engine (black plug). I can't find any info for this carb such as jet sizes, float height and needle position. The main jet now is #71 and float is level with bowl edge. Any info would be helpful Thanks for any help. Cooter
  22. I have a 400 cc roketa 4X4 that the cvk carb runs gas out the aircleaner . I have reset the float and put a new carb on but it still overflows. It has an electronic plunger on the top of the carb that I don't know anything about so if anyone has had this problem or knows how to repair it ???????
  23. My 05 4x4 with Keihin carb is clogged again, and my goto helper that know how to remove and unclog it is not around. I cant wait any longer, no dealer within 50 miles, nad no truck. I have a service manual, but I see how to clean it once removed, but can not see how to get it off the machine. Does anyone know of instructions or a video of how to remove the carb from a 05 4x4 500 Artic Cat. Thanks.
  24. Can anyone help me with adjusting this carb? It's on a 70cc yamoto. It has a slow idle, so I want to start with that. Is the screw in the center of this picture the idle adjust? It has a spring around it. And the one immediately to its left (the actual screw is kinda recessed in) air/fuel mix? Thanks guys.
  25. If anyone is having issues with the Mikuni VM24SS carb, I thought I would post what issues I had and how I resolved them. Acquired a 93 Bayou 220 that had sat for over 4 years. The carb was extremely corroded and pitted and full of leftover fuel. Cleaned carb and bowl and was able to get the engine to start. Within 30 seconds exhaust would heat up and start to glow red hot. Removed carb and recleaned everything, including a second overnight soak. Needless to say, after removing the carb for the 5th time and my frustration to the limit I realized that my attention had been to the carb body and not to the bowl. There is a small brass rod on the bottom of the carb that goes down into the float bowl but is seperated from the main section. I had cleaned that area very well....I had thought. ***The corrosion had sealed off the channel that runs from the main bowl section to the small tube section on the side of the float bowl. No amount of carb cleaner was going to get it to budge. So i took a small nail and started to scrape away the corrosion and was eventually able to dislodge enought of the corrosion that carb cleaner would flow through that channel. *** I thoroughly cleaned each side of the channel in the float bowl and reinstalled the carb and now the issue of it running lean is gone. On a second note the fuel mixture screw was a nightmare to remove as the threads had been corroded and wouldnt let the screw come out. I used a little cutting oil and worked the mixture screw in and out until I was able to push past the corroded threads and completely remove the needle. After a couple passes with a tap to clean the threads it is like new again. Hope this helps if you are having a lean running machine.
