I brought my Arctic Cat into a local power sports store to have it serviced. because it would not fire up. they did a compression test and it read 33 PSI. the shop then did a valve adjustment which brought it up to 66 PSI, which is still too low. the shop called me after they messed with the valves and told me that they are going to have to take the top end off and look at it. they quoted me at $300. they think it needs a new valve seating but they cant be certain until they look at it. and I just cant afford to spend that much. the shop said its probably going to be $800 when everything is said and done. luckily I know a master technician that is willing to take the engine apart. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, and where to begin?

Daughters quad started blowing oil. Pulled top end, found piston and sleeve marred. Replaced piston and cylinder, upon verifying TDC using my thumb to hold pressure, notice loss of pressure against thumb while hearing a "bubbling" sound from inside the head. 1) While I had compression loss from old piston/cylinder. I did not notice compression loss from head. 2) All Top End gaskets are new. Head gasket is in excellent condition. 3) Head and Cylinder mating surfaces were prepared, cleaned & slightly sanded to ensure no foreign objects & smooth surface. 4) Did not use any type of extra gasket material (RTV, etc) on head gasket. Although, head gasket came with some sort of (rtv style) seal. Link to show example of this head gasket: Cylinder Head Gasket for Coolster Mountopz ATVs - $3.95 I am beyond frustrated... What am I missing?

I loss compression on 1994 kawasaki bayou 300 4x4. It had good compression but had a rough idle it would go up and then down very unstable but when I put it in gear it ran fine. I ran it gor about 20 minutes and parked it. The next day when I go to start it up I notice that there is no compression and it wilol not start. I checked the compression with a gauge and it does not read anything. I put a little oil in the cylinder through the plug hole then ran another compression test and it still does not read anything. Do you think the valves could be the problem? Any sugesstions. This is a unit that has been sat up for a couple of years. I have a new plug in it and installed a new honda carberator from winn cycles from ebay, did this to try and get it to idle which did not help any. Any advice is helpful. thanks

Hey guys hope everyone is well. I need sum advice or help. Anyways I already rebuilt the carb however I noticed that the carb is spitting sum gas towards the airbox and i did a compression test and i only got 50lbs what should the compression be for these lil monsters bc 50 lbs isn't a lot I figure it will b around 100lb or so. So I'm thinkn a piston, bad valves? it does smoke white but I can get it to run but hard to start and I got to keep the slide all the way open on the carb to get it to even run but once I let the slide down it cuts off so its not even driveable right now plz help me guys trying to get it running b4 we get snow

hey i got a ltz 400 and we just took it apart and we looked at the piston and everything it was all good and the rings were a little dirty so we cleaned them and put them back together but there was some marks on the piston where valves hit it. could a bent valve mess up ur compression ?
-
So I replaced the rings cause it was smoking real bad,put it all back together, I think I have the timing set right but I'm not sure..I can't find a tru manual online to download either... so my question is how exactly dose the timing need to be set... I set the piston a tdc lined the top cam sprocket line with my make to to (top) mark on the head. also linde the flywheel mark(t) with the make on the case...do I need to line it off of the (f) mark? There are also 2 more marks colse to each other but no markings for them...any help is welcome.thank you..
