I just bought this thing and got the carb all cleaned today and it was running like a champ. There was a spare hot wire hanging down that was not hooked up to anything. I found it when I took all the covers off and did the carb work. Unfortunately I forgot it as well when I fired her up after cleaning and replacing the carb. While I was running her, the wire was lying across the exhaust pipe. The exhaust got hot, melted the insulation and next thing I know I see sparks flying everywhere Bike immediately shut down and all lights went off. I have nothing on the console now when I turn the key over. I fear I have fried my ECU. I found one fuse back by the box, a 30 amp, but it was good. Are there any other fuses on these things? Is there a way to test the ECU? Could it be the rectifier or voltage regulator?

Hi Just picked up a BB for $650 as the PO just threw in the white towel. There is no spark with either the electric start or pull start. The stator is new, new battery, new key switch, new plug. I have gone over every wire and cleaned everything and checked all I could with multimeter. I'm stumped myself why I wouldn't get any spark with theh pull start. Could this be the pickup coil? wires coming out of stator are red and white, green and brown, and 3 yellow wires I get continuity from red and white but nothing from green and brown or the yellows Its a hair puller and hoping its just the pickup coil and not the cdi thanks

Arctic Cat 2006 ATV 500. The battery is dead overnight. Recharges fine with 1 amp charger. I disconnected the negative cable from the battery and put a meter between that post and the cable with everything turned off. It read a 10 volt draw. I pulled each fuse one at a time. The power draw went to zero when I pulled the ACC fuse and no others. The engine starts and runs without the fuse but the display panel keeps starting to show then goes off briefly. The display works fine with the fuse in place. What is the most likely culprit? How do I get to it? How do I fix it.

Hi yall,i started this tread mostly because i have used up my 9 lives and am still here! Im sure there are alot of quad nuts like myself (i have 7 of them) that have come close to meeting god in person, but cant seem to give up the fun.I am converting any and all of my present and future atvs into buggies. what i do is cut the frame just in front of the motor, extend the frame and put in a racing seat complete with a 4 point harness and a roll bar.The first 1 is going well with alot of challanges.Thats ok as im on loa with nothing else to do.my first project is a 1996 suzuki quad runner, have not got it to run yet as am having elect problems. That being said,id love to hear from those who have the same need to stay alive and still have fun at it. Good luck

new project just picked up. 2000 sportsman 500 absolutely nothing happens when I turn the key. there is no start button on the left handle bar so im thinking it turns on with the key. I checked all wires on the CDI and reconnected some wires. jumped the starter and got good compression. I also bridged the starter solenoid and engine turned. New ignition switch/key changed oil new spark plug new battery what else should i check? how do i know is the cdi that needs replacement over the coil, or other things? any way to test that? are there any wires that absolutely need to be plugged in for the atv to start? there are some wires e.g. 12v outlet wires, ground for the winch etc... i really dont want to just start buying up parts and replace them.. any help would be appreciated it. thanks.

Everything suddenly shut down on the trail--no ignition, lights, nothing. It wasn't the battery; we hot wired it to get it home. Is there a circuit breaker or fused link somewhere on the vehicle--I don't see it. If the vehicle shut down like this, can I assume that I have a serious short somewhere? No dealer to ask--and Polaris is the worst company to try to get any help or answers out of--they simply refuse to communicate by phone or email. Thanks!
