  1. Hi i have a 94 Timberwolf 4x4. I got it at the beginning of the summer and it ran great all summer apart for an idling issue. I looked into it and i had oil in my air box and when i checked the dip stick it looks like it was overfllled. I took some oil out of the motor jumped on the bike and put it in gear.. nothing.. it runs great but wont drive. i tried it again off the bike and it drove a few feet but once i gave it any kind of power it would act like it was in neutral even though i know it wasnt. i tried cycling the gears and in reverse but i wasnt getting anywhere. it acts like it is going into gear and cycling through them but i cant get power to the wheels. i tried taking more oil out of it and adding new oil to the bike and it seemed to make it feel like it was shifting into drive or reverse easier but it still wont drive.. i talked to the guy that does small engine work in my town (although he is always booked up for 3 months at a time) so i didnt bring it in yet but he said something about some locking pin that seems to break on these models that would actually keep it from engaging into gear.. its located on the inside of the lever that you push forward for drive or backwards for reverse (i think this may not be the problem since i did have it moving somewat with no weight on the bike). any ideas?
  2. 2003 Polaris SCRAMBLER 500 Cant get the 4wheel drive to work turn the switch on and it will not engage tested wires and they carry power - no pinched wires etc. no service manual.....any help appreciate it.
  3. Hey there everyone. Father in law picked up a used 2000 BB400 4x2 - motor runs well, no smoking. Little cold natured, but starts easy enough on full choke, and as it warms up you can back the choke off to a normal idle. Not uncommon for older carbed bikes/quads. but - cold or hot, this thing is sometimes a real pain to get into reverse or 1st without rocking it back and forth a good bit. as it warms up, again it acts better, but doesn't get perfect. When moving,it shifts up and down smoothly and accurately with no signs of clutch slipping. Oil looks good and clean. I see the clutch adjustment on the left side crankcase - but before I go screwing with anything, I'd like some other's opinions on what I might do to make the engagement easier. thanks, Chris
  4. i have a 2000 honda 400ex i took the right crank case off to look at my clutch and when i went to put it back together i can get the case and the lifter arm to line up and there fore my clutch wont engage is there a trick to this please help!!!
  5. Not sure that this really is a 2003, but that's the date on the label on the front of the chassis. Anyway, this is one of the electronic gear models with switchable auto or electronic shifting. The D-N-R is done with a level to the left of the fuel tank. After sitting out in the snow for a few weeks over Christmas reverse become very stiff to engage and often did not despite the level being in position. After riding for about 20 mins it seemed to fee up and engage. Now I'm having the same trouble even getting drive. I know the lever just pulls a cable which attaches to a metal tube down near the back of the footplate on the left hand side. This rotates a rod which I assume is linked in somewhere to the gear changing. I can currently change gear by getting a set of molegrips on that and turning it. I assume its that rod that'stiff and not the cable because the cable looks nice and clean. I will take the cable off and check, but it's the middle of lambing season right now and quad maintenance isn't top of my list. Any ideas what's inside the gear linkage and what might make it stiff, if it is stiff? The engine oil is clean and full, I don't think the gear case oil or diff oil would affect this? Any hints or tips very welcome. Thanks
  6. I have a 1994 sportsman 400. I got it stuck this weekend and found out the 4 x 4 is not engaing. Thru further investigation I found out the basic way the front hubs lock is by magnetizing the hubs and locking them. I am not getting power to the hubs, but it seems that I should be able to tap into any electrical source and run it thru the 4 x 4 push button switch and it should work. What is you guys opinion. I am a good mechanic, but this is the first atv I have owned. Thanks, Mike
