  1. Hi All, Has anyone found engine oil in their air filter box. The must be little or no baffle between crankcase ventilation and that hose that attaches to the air filter box. I went to pick up my ATV today 60 miles away that they could not fix the jerky low speeds on and before I loaded it decided to check on this. Sure enough there was a good coating of oil with some pooling in the bottom of the air filter box. The air filter has oil on it too but is it a dry element or oiled element type. My guess from the color of it dry. I heard on a comment on my YT videos that there is a kit for this i
  2. Doing the first big maintenance on the old 2011 700 Grizz and have a couple q's. I've been told that Hondas take only a certain type of coolant and now I'm wondering about my Yamaha. Is there a certain type of coolant I need to look for or will general coolants be good enough? And second...I'm gonna use the No Toil stuff to clean and oil my air filter. Are there different types of No Toil cleaners and filter oils where I need to look for a specific type, or is there just one to get...the No Toil Evolution Kit? And if there are different types whats the type of oil No Toil makes that is right
  3. Picked up this 87 Big Bear from my grandfather. It has been sitting for quite a few years, so I am in the middle of rebuilding the carb and doing other maintenance. The quad did not come with an air filter, so while I was at the yamaha dealer a new air filter was pretty cheap. Except it was missing something called the element guide. I guess there is some kind of tube the air filter wraps around and sits in the square cutouts inside the air box. Is there any other manufacturers that make this part? Yamaha wants $60 for the element guide. Worse case scenario I just have to buy it
  4. Hey I have just recently purchased a 1985 Yamaha moto 4 200 and found that the air filter case is not only busted open but also missing the filter and element. I have searched for these parts online and have yet to find any out there for sale. I was wondering if there is a way to make my own air filter case with filter or some way to go about fixing this problem. Any help would be much appreciated thank you . Can post pictures if need to
  5. I was having a bad idle and i found the culprit. I dont but to my eyes i think that needs cleaned. How should i clean it. I read to use dish soap or landuary detergent. I have also read to use a five gallon full of water and soap but or just enough water with soap to submerge the filter. So how should i clean my air filter
  6. I am going to help a buddy with his 2004 Arctic Cat 500 TBX next week. I don't own a ATV, but am a pretty good mechanic and have been working on my own dirt bikes, road bikes, cars, trucks and small engine equipment (mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, chain saws, etc.) my whole life. I haven't brought anything to a shop for anything but tires in about 20 years. I am very confident I can do the job. The problem is, when at idle, gas flows out of the overflow at the bottom of the carb. From my research on the internet, I know the cause is probably either; 1. (less likely) mis-adjusted float heigh
  7. Good morning everyone --- just joined the forum and new to ATVs. Simple question: Is there a cross-reference for interchangeable oil filters for my 05 Suzuki KingQuad 700 LTA? Thank you...
  8. Just a simple question, but could i go and measure my air filter, I.D. and find a K/N air filter for my 300 4x2 Bruteforce ?? Seems to me that it would work, provided everything will still match up correctly, and i have enough room inside my airbox. Any thoughts ??
  9. I had water in that box under the seat so I thought I had better look at the filter. By the time I got it back together I was almost in tears, and I used to work on British cars. I tried to remove the lid and it wouldn't come off until I removed the whole air box. To get it back on I had to remove the mounting bolts for that water catch box and separate it from the throttle body. I had to put the factory intake pipe on the air box 1st hoping I had it positioned right and fish it up through there. Basically the whole system is in it's own way. I also had it jacked up with both front wheels remo
  10. Hi This bike is fighting me at every turn. 2 of the 3 allen key bolts holding the oil filter cover are stuck. They have an internal 6mm key which has been rounded out. Partly by me but mainly before I touched it. Has any one any experience in removing these stubborn bolts, that is the lowest (the most difficult to get at) and right hand top bolt. My thoughts are drilling the heads out or using a centre punch to hammer the heads around, (could this crack the engine housing where the bolt threads are??) also drilling and using screw extractor. Any thoughts and advice would be welcome.
  11. i have a 1994 yamaha big bear 350 and wanting to change the oil but not sure where the oil filter is, and how much oil? dont have the book anymore. if someone could help i would appreciate it thanks!
  12. got a 96 Big Bear Project Bike, the air filter doesnt fit tight with the box. Should there be a rubber gasket between the filter asembley and the intake? Would this gasket come with a new filter, can I just buy this gasket. searched all over but cant find that part or a diagram showing it. Have the owners manuel and service manual but neither show it.
  13. When I dumped the oil out to recycle this morning a little filter assembly with a spring on it fell out too. I found out that it was a filter for the oil pump pickup. Ive ran it a couple times since the new filter/oil change but nothing major. Around the block a couple times. Goin to drain it today and filter the oil and reuse it. You think not having that filter for just a couple days screwed anything in the pump up?
  14. Am I missing something, or is the lower air-box all but impossible to replace once it's been removed? I guess in hindsight maybe I didn't need to remove it to get the carb out, but it's out now, and doesn't want to go back. I'm considering cutting out an inch from the back and making it shorter, but obviously that won't be a quick task. Might be easier to just get an after-market filter and get rid of the box, but I really hadn't planned on that. Suggestions???
  15. The quad died on my son the other day. Tracing a fuel drip I found the air filter box filling up with fuel. After removing the air filter there was fuel was draining out the air intake into the box. Had to shut the fuel line to get the draining to stop. SOmething with the carb I guess but what???

  17. Air Filter Maintenance Your air filter is the first line of defense against the elements. Keep it clean or spend some green. We show you how.The condition of your air filter directly affects the performance of your ATV. The dirtier the filter, the more it robs horsepower from your motor. Running a dirty filter also greatly increases the risk of sucking dirt and debris into your motor's internals which can cause a number of problems in your fuel-delivery system and greatly increase the wear and tear on your piston rings, cylinder and valves. Once again, this eats away at even more horsepower
  18. Ok...I'm gettin' me juevos ready to do an oir filter clean.... Went to my local harley/quad dealer and he had me purchase the No-Toil kit (Cleaner, Air Filter Oil, Rim Grease) What I've read is that the No-Toil cleaner will NOT clean other oils off air filters....just the No-Toil oil.... So, I've also read that others have cleaned their air filters in the kitchen sink, used gasoline, or used flash solvent.... Looking for advice as I've mentioned I'm very mechanically DECLINED! I'm going to wash the air box seal in the sink and give it a good dry.... One more thing......No-Toil or Bel

  20. Wix filters makes a bunch of atv filters you can get at any autopart store, or ask them to cross reference the wix # to the brand that they stock. Any Carquest or Napa can get you these filters....just give them the # and they will cross it to theirs as their filters are all made by Wix. Here is the online catalog: http://wixfilters.com/filterlookup/atv.asp
