About Me

My Garage

  1. I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this. The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out. Thanks...
  2. HELP, i have a 2009 yamaha grizzly 700 yfm7fgpy special edition with a defective fuel pump and am wanting to know how to test it to know if it is defective or not
  3. My 2005 Arctic Cat 500 started leaking fuel from the top right hand side of the carb. It looks and feels that the fuel is coming from under the throttle cable housing area just above the primer pump. I have not had time to take carb off. Has anyone had a leak on this side and area of their carb?
  4. My normally problematic to start 05 500 4x4 (carb/fuel issues) has been fine the last couple months after tearing down carb and cleaning again etc.. It has turned very cold, I have been running it every 5-7 days and it has been starting. Need it BADLY BADLY right now, snow storm is almost here, and now no start. It is much colder than usual. Can someone tell me how I might try to start it?? I did not try starter fluid, I don't know where to spray it?? Air intake?? But not sure where that's at? Sad I know, I don't maintain it myself. If someone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks.
  5. Ok i bought a 1996 lt-f4wdx quadrunner and the carburator was not attached? I have a gaurantee that it runs. I know about the throttle and choke but know nothing of where the rest of the hoses fuel drain, vacuum and anything else i forgot about come and or go from or to. the model of carb is a mikuni bst31ss(single carb)! thanx jim
  6. Hello all, not sure if I'm asking this question in the area but here it goes. My issue started the other day when I was using my Honda TRX420TM7 to run my brush sprayer. I realized I low on fuel, so I grabbed a fuel jug and added enough to take it to approx 1/2 tank or so. After running it for a little while it started acting up and smoking. I figured out that the fuel I used had gone bad so I went to drain the tank. I have what appears to be 3 hoses going into a canister. I pulled one of them and the tank drained completely. I added brand new fuel back to the tank and cleaned spark plug. It will start and run for a few seconds then shut down. My question is, where can get a complete diagram of the fuel system or can one of you tell me how to clear the whole system so I may use atv again. Thank you in advance.
  7. Hello everyone! I would like to excuse myself in advance, as I am not very smart in mechanics... So, bear with me. Last year my girlfriend gave me a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 300, as she was moving and fourwheelers werent allowed in city limits. Recently, I have run into a little problem. My fourwheeler will idle just fine for a bit, but whenever I give it any throttle, it will kill the motor or nearly kill it. Eventually, if it idles too long, the motor dies. Im not sure why its doing this. My dad thinks it is the fuel filter, but he also isnt familiar with small engines. When I start my fourwheeler, I generally let it idle for about 4-6 minutes. It also never has needed to be choked to be started really, just a little tap on the throttle. Im not sure what it is, and need opinions. Thanks!
  8. I have a 98 sportsman 500. I was riding today and noticed the belt was squeaking on take off. Shortly afterwards the clutch just shuddered like mad and atv stopped. Won't start now and I also have a nice fuel leak from underneath atv.. Any ideas before I tear into it next week?
  9. I have been rebuilding this ATV for about a week and a half now. I rebuilt the carb, changed the air filter, and cleaned out just about everything I could think to clean. I tried starting it last night and the starter button would not work, so I pulled out the start button and saw that the wires were useless. I finally got to a point where I was able to hot wire it and get the engine to turn. The engine turns, but will not fire. It is clearly a problem with not getting spark or not getting fuel. I just replaced the spark plug and battery. At this point, I am a little stuck as to what approach to take. Im thinking I need to put starter fluid in to see if I can get it to turn over with that and if it does, I need to work on the fuel system. Has anyone worked on this quad before who has any experience or advice to share? I am an engineering student at Clemson and this is a summer project for me to rebuild an ATV instead of buying a new one. I am ready to learn! Thanks!
  10. This is my first post. I've been leaking gas for some time and just figured out from where. It's leaking from what I assume is some sort of overflow hose or something near the bottom right of the carb. Any ideas why and what should be done to fix it?
  11. i finally done the smart thing and done away with the throttle body on my 05 700 king quad. this is just the temporary parts that i used to make sure it would work, my carb is way too small for this engine, ------------------------------------------------------- parts needed. carb. big enough to run a 700, the one i am testing with is off my 06 honda rancher 4x4 350 cc, using 2 pieces of 1 1/2 pvc 2 inches long each. 1 1/2 pvc 90 fuel tank to mount in place of the original airbox ------------------------------------ remove the old throttle body, and airbox. i am also removing the original fuel tank, gonna mount full size deep cycle battery in place of the original fuel tank remove the intake boot off the engine. bevel one end of a piece of pvc. use a good sharp knife and trim the inside of the intake boot just enough to get the pvc at least an inch deep, tighten clamp use the other piece of pvc to attach the carb to, got lucky and was able to use the throttle cable on the carb, mount new airbox with filter to other end of carb. im using an old shop vac hose hooked onto the airbox intake. route this hose to the front end of 4wheeler. attach to piece of pvc pointed straight up bout 2foot above front rack, attach 2 90 elbows at the top for a turn down mount choke cable anywhere you want it. im putting mine on the handle bars im mounting the fuel tank off the honda in place of the original airbox. trust me this does work. the 4wheeler still fires and runs good even with too small of a carb. i dont even have everything mounted permanent yet , as of right now the whole new intake is held together with electrical tape, just wanted to make sure it would work before i spent the time to do it right, tomorrow i will post update and try to upload pics of the completed job
  12. I have a 97 Kodiak 400 4x4 and the fuel gauge in the tank was damaged when I got it. I would like to replace it and Yamaha has given me a price of $50 for the parts. I have a Clymer manual but it does not give the remove and replace instructions for the fuel gauge only the tank. Any wizard out there that can give me the info or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Code
  13. New comer; Unit had been running well. Ran out of fuel. Put 2 gal in that I had for a couple weeks. Cranked up and ran well for several days. Started shutting down after start , but would restart and run short distances that I use it for. Went to mail box and did not make it. Changed spark plug . No start unless a shot of start fluid, ran and died. Pulled fuel line off bottom of tank, removed all old fuel wiped out inside of tank, found nothing except stand pipe for normal fuel laying in bottom of tank. Opened tank valve and got fuel in Pri setting.Removed drain screw at carb got few drops of gas. Re-installed fuel line put in about a gal + fuel. Nothing comes out of drain screw. Blew into tank and still zilch. In the process of the drain screw I got on the wrong screw and have made an adj on the carb that I do not know what is. Rigging up to remove body in AM to get to carb. Any one have any ideas suggestions ? Thanks , Tom
  14. well guys, the retrofit worked great, removed the computerized throttle body from my bike and replaced it with a carb off of one of my hondas , its not quite right yet, the carb does not put out quite enough fuel, going to the cycle shop tomorrow to get oversize jets for it. as it is right now with no where near enough fuel i was able to ride it around my neighborhood, got it up to 35mph, it runs smooth as a dream, anyone with one of these 4wheelers having fuel issues feel free to msg me for more details on the retrofit:yes:
  15. Does any one know when honda well come out with fuel injection in the 450. i love my hondas but man i wish it would come fuel injected..
  16. Just wondering what you all thought is the better way to go with fuel injection or a carb??
  17. im having problems with my quad flooding out. i have cleaned the carb, petcok, fuel lines then once its running i can take the vacume line off from the petcok to the carb and it runs 100 times better but as soon as i connect the hose it sucks gas and chokes out the bike can anyone help please.
  18. I have a 2008 KFX 450R and currantly have a lexx fuel controller but here the Dynatey is what most guys are running does anyone know if there is really a diffrence I know my lexx one was alot cheaper then the Dynatek?? Is it better to get one with or with out teh program to change the map?
  19. ok so heres the deal, im new to this site and i need help with my arctic cat. so last night i ride it all night through water, mud and it did great. it does blow a little white smoke but im trying to fix that now. thats not my problem tho. my problem is that i tried to start my bike today and it ran for abut 5 seconds and died. i figured mabye out of gas or spark plug..so i changed the spark plug and i checked to see if its getting gas. its etting gas and spark. i checked compressionn and it was right below 100 on my gauge. an every now and then ill get one little sputter as it tries to start, i pulled the carb and cleaned it and the slide was kind of sticky so i cleaned it up and made it where itll slide real smooth, i figured that would be the problem, so i just got done putting it back together and now it still dosent do anything..i need help cuz im getting pissed at it. this is the first arctic cat ive owned and it has 500miles on it and my honda 350 has over 5000miles on it and it hasent skipped a beat...so i need help and it might be something simple. Thanks alot. and sory it is soo long.
  20. I finally got my 450 started. It had been sitting for awhile, so the fuel varnished and now I have an OILY substance gunkin up my bike. I emptied my tank first before running it. Got out as much as I could. I got a compressor and blew it out from tank, took off fuel line before it goes into pump and injectors and flushed good new gas threw it TO FLUSH MY SYSTEM TO HELP CLEAN LINE,PUMP AND INJECTORS, VALVES ECT... It is sputtering and most cases wont stay on. HELP! Need advice before i junk it. wHAT ELSE CAN i DO. RUNNIN LIKE CRAP!
  21. Was riding last nite, bike was running fine came back to camp let sit bout 20 mins. Got back on it and it started fine but when I gave it a lot of gas it just kinda bogged down. Maybe it was hot? Or Crap in the tank maybe? Help! Still out riding!
  22. Hey guys as you can see from my other post I am doing a rebuild on my quad anyway when it's all put back together I will have stage 2 hotcams a fuel customs intake lexx exhaust and a lexx fuel controller my question is does anyone have this same set up and if so what are you setting your controller to?? Thanks!
  23. I'm new here an hoping for fast help. I have a 1997 4x4 Timberline 250 that is my major helper here on the farm. We have had a tough winter so far and the machine is already struggling (another story) with a terrible oil leak (the case is cracked...I will need to find another engine this spring). After cleaning the last round of snow last week (deeply sub-zero) I pulled the ATV into the barn. It has been in here during the recent extremely warm weather until last night when I pulled it out to get ready for this current and fast approaching weather. The temps dropped day before yesterday to normal below freezing and my son-in-law thinks condensation could have frozen in the line. I could not get the ATV to start at all and ended up pulling it out of the barn by hand, rolling it down to the front gates in preparation for work (I assumed I would eventually get it started!). My son-in-law was just here to get his son and said no gas is coming through the gas line (from the tank). He has added a full bottle of HEAT and changed the spark plug but had to get to his family while he can. I am about to be hit with up to 15" of snow and the ATV, while covered, is at the gate and the only method I have of cleaning the coming blanket. I am alone here for the week and may not be able to get out of here within the next couple hours. How long will the HEAT take to open a frozen line? If this is not the problem, is there anything else you can think of that I could do? I cannot get the ATV back in the barn and I am certainly not qualified to do major gas tank surgery. My neighbor was just here and said to get on the ATV and jump up and down -shaking it liberally- every now and then in order to dislodge any ice crystals or debris. HELP! Cynthia in Wisconsin
