About Me

My Garage

  1. Hello everyone, this is my first post to the forum. I have a Honda Fourtrax that will not start when you push the start button. no kick start. However it will start if you jump across the two posts on the sylenoid. thus far i only sprayed wd40 into the start and kill switches. any suggestions?
  2. I have a 2007 honda rancher 420 with trans problems. When I am riding it with the motor at around half and throttle and up the gear light will start to flash and then go away for about 5 seconds and then a dash will come up where the gear is sapose to be. I have to cut the fourwheeler off and use the front brake to crank it in gear and than wait a few seconds before it will shift. It does it in all gears except reverse as far as I know. It started about 4 months ago and is getting worse everytime i ride it. Please help me figure out how to fix it or atleast what is going on so I can take it to have it fixed.
  3. Has anyone experienced transmission problems with a 420 Honda. I seemed to have lost 4th gear. It shifts fine thru 3rd but when shifting into 4th it growls and just coasts. I can shift back down or even shift up to 5th but have nothing in 4th.
  4. Hey guys, Im new here but I recently Picked up a '99 Foreman 400 that apparently just had a top end rebuild. It blows white smoke like crazy and ticks/knocks and seems to follow the rpm's. I haven't done to much trouble shooting yet, It starts and runs like a champ and has good compression. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go. Oh ya the top end rebuild the guy did was according to him he honed the cylinder and replaced the piston and rings, my fear is an ovaled cylinder?
  5. Figured I'd share the wealth with my over 35GB library of shop manuals. Enjoy, and everyone have a very Merry Christmas! 2005-2009 Honda TRX400EX/400X Honda_Trx_400ex_400x_Service_Repair_Manual_2009.pdf p/w: trx400ex400x 2000-2003 Honda Rancher TRX350 TM TE FE FM 2000-2003 TRX350 TM TE FE FM service.pdf p/w: trx350 2005-2006 Honda Foreman TRX500 FE FM TM Honda TRX500FE FM TM Foreman.pdf p/w: trx500 1988-1994 Honda TRX300 Fourtrax, 88, 90-94 TRX300FW Fourtrax 4x4 Honda Trx_300_Fourtrax_300_Service_Repair_Manual_1988-1994.pdf p/w: trx300 1995-2000 Honda TRX300 Fourtrax TRX300FW Fourtrax 4x4 http://www.mediafire.com/file/pi0x0w9n84xocc8/Honda%201995%202000%20TRX300%20Service%20manual.pdf p/w: trx300 1985-1986 Honda TRX125 Fourtrax 125 Honda_Trx_125_Service_Repair_Manual_1985_1986.pdf p/w: trx125 1995-2003 Honda Foreman TRX400FW Fourtrax HondaTrx_400fw_Foreman Service Manual 95-03.pdf p/w: trx400 2003 Honda Rincon TRX650FA TRX650FA_Rincon650_2003_ServiceManual.pdf p/w: trx650 1997-2004 Honda TRX250TE/TM Fourtrax Recon http://www.mediafire.com/file/7cl9nqjedbudo3h/Honda_Recon_Service_Repair_Manual_2004.pdf p/w: recon Thats a good starter kit...post up your requests in this thread, I have tons more...Hope this helps.
  6. Looking for a used crankshaft (cheap) for a 2003 Honda Recon or 250EX. Several model years will work. I only need the timing chain sprocket, but I can remove it from the old crank.
  7. My Honda Fourtrax won't start. The starter is kicking the engine over, but it won't start. It sat for about a year while I was living away, so I thought it might have been bad gas. I completely drained the fuel, flushed the fuel lines and filled it with fresh gas. However, still nothing. It started and ran fine the last time I used it. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this? It could be fuel or electrical at this point. Is there an easy way to rule one or the other out? Thanks
  8. It seems like a gas problem but I've changec, fuel injector, gas cap. I have lots of fuel pressure but after four wheeler has run for 20-30 min I have no power and sometimes stalls and won't start. Any ideas?
  9. Today I went riding and towards the end of the day my quad kept dieing while I was riding it. Just riding like normal and it would start to back fire and then die. Do I need to clean my carb or what?
  10. I'm in need of a replacement engine for my '04 400ex. Can anyone help or at least give me some direction. Thanks
  11. I haven't rode in a very long time and a friend is selling me a 1985 TRX he obtained through family that is in pristine condition. I have a few questions since he can't find the manual- and sorry if I come off dumb or "noobish". 1) Gears- these are 5 speed right? 5 down and up is back to neutral? 2) 4 stroke 10-w30 for oil? How much? 3) spark gap? Thanks for your time.
  12. I am trying to install a motor from a 200S on my 200M. It is supposed to be the same thing without the starter. On my 200M, there is a black/red wire (from alternator), which the 200S has also. On my 200M, there are 2 yellow wires, which I think go to the regulator. On the 200S there is a yellow wire and a green wire (from alternator). The 200S has no regulator and no neutral wire. My question is what do I do with the 2 yellow wires from the 200M bike, and the 1 yellow and 1 green from the 200S motor? I'm assuming all these wires are to get the alternator to work. Sorry I could not figure out how to post the wiring diagram from the 200M, the whole manual is to big. Thanks
  13. I got this from another board..... A Great Big Thanks to COB From the ATVQuadSquad for this Most Excellent Find Thought this was a interesting article. Honda ATV History 101 The 1960s: Prototyping the ATC If necessity was the mother of the first ATV, Honda engineer Osamu Takeuchi was its father. In 1967, American Honda asked Honda R&D Ltd. for a new product dealers could sell when motorcycle sales cooled off in the winter. Mr. Takeuchi was assigned to lead the project, along with a small group of Honda engineers. This was clearly the group for the job, since Takeuchi and company had been working to develop other new recreational vehicles that never saw production. These projects gave Takeuchi the tools to develop Honda's first ATV, the US90. Forget the proverbial blank sheet of paper. Takeuchi started in the shop with a head full of ideas and an eclectic assortment of components. Two-, three-, four-, five- and even six-wheeled configurations were examined, but the three-wheel concept delivered the best combination for the machine's intended mission. It dealt with snow, mud and assorted slippery conditions a two-wheeler couldn't, while providing more maneuverability than other configurations. In the early stages, a Honda ST™70 motorcycle gave up its 70cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine for the cause, along with assorted chassis parts. An extended rear axle carried cultivator wheels designed to handle rough terrain. Two driving wheels in the rear worked well. Cultivator tires didn't. The biggest challenge would be finding a tire capable of getting a grip on soft, changeable terrain such as snow, sand and mud. Two wheels, three wheels, four wheels or more? Motorcycle tires weren't an option. The design process quickened when American Honda sent Takeuchi an American invention called the Amphi-Cat& that rolled on six 20-inch low-pressure, high-flotation balloon tires. The light bulb went on. Revamping his ST70-based prototype to accept the new low-pressure rolling stock, he went to work on his own tire design, ending up with a 22-inch tire inflated to 2.2 psi. With the tire dilemma solved, the 70cc engine lacked the muscle necessary to push a full-sized rider through snow or mud. A 90cc engine running through a special dual-range four-speed gearbox added the requisite flexibility over varied terrain. continued...
  14. Hope someone can help with this one. We took our 1984 Honda TRX 200 to the shop and they had it for about 2 weeks before they finally called and said that they had cleaned the carb and changed the battery and that it had started up. We went and got it and when we got home it would not start so we called them, they said bring it back in, so we did. They called us the next day and said they changed the spark plug, and that it was running. We went and got it again and it ran when we drove it off the truck. We parked it for about an hour because we were going to get ready to go on a ride. Well, it wouldnt start again. So we called them and they said the last thing they could do was order a new CDI box and put that on. I decided to just buy it myself, so I didnt have to pay them labor again. We put the new one on today and its still not starting. Does anyone have any ideas on what we could check to see what in the world is going on with this thing? Please and Thank you
  15. I I bought a Honda 250sx 1986 but the exhaust is broken. Apparently it's not possible to order a new one. I checked to order one on others compagny but there's noting. Do you know which exhaust it's possible to install. Is there a company who sold an exaust to fit on my 250sx. Sorry for my english Thank you Marc
  16. Well I have not had time to work the minor bugs out of my atc250sx and I went and bought a 1985 trx 250. I couldnt pass it up for $100 the previous owner said it was running and he heard a clink or snap sound and then everything froze up. cant get it out of gear so he figured it is a transmission problem. my first question is how do you go about removing the drive shaft? any ideas on what the problem may be. motor wont shif out of neutral. It happened right when he shifted into gear. it stalled the engine and never went back into neutral. if any one knows how to work on this dinosaur
  17. Electronic Power Steering? Did you guys see this? Features & Benefits New for 2007 Honda's revolutionary Electric Power Steering (EPS) system offers speedand torque-sensitive steering assistance for increased control and comfort under tough conditions. Front and rear suspension are revised specifically for the Foreman with EPS. Unique Features EPS is a unique system consisting of an ECU-programmed electric steering assistance motor and multiple sensors. These sensors measure the handlebar torque applied by the operator as well as the ATV's speed to determine the correct amount of steering assistance required for all conditions. More assistance is provided in rough terrain and at low speeds to decrease the amount of steering effort required, while less assistance is provided at higher speeds and in smooth terrain. This innovative technology also decreases bumpsteer and kickback through the handlebar in all conditions. The sophisticated Showa system includes separate ECU programming for 2WD and 4WD modes, while spring-loaded steering-motor gears minimize play to increase steering feel and feedback at higher speeds. Traxlok® enables the rider to shift between 2WD and 4WD with the simple push of a switch and provides quiet, smooth engagement with shift-on-the-fly capability. Torque-sensitive front differential reduces torque steer for less steering effort and, when combined with EPS, provides unmatched 4WD steering effort and precision. Dual front disc-brake calipers feature a patented built-in scraper system to remove mud and snow from inside the front wheel. This helps to prevent buildup of debris between caliper and rim and ensures consistent braking performance. Brake pads feature thick, long-wear material with improved mud durability, feel and control. Pads have an internal scraper that gives audible warning when pad life is low. Standard-equipment oil cooler. Engine/Drivetrain Powerful four-stroke 475cc OHV air-cooled longitudinally mounted engine allows direct driveshaft alignment to both front and rear wheels for improved drivetrain efficiency. The overhead-valve arrangement features angled valves in a hemispherical combustion chamber for straighter intake and exhaust flow for improved engine performance. Rubber-cushion engine mounting and gear-driven counterbalancer reduce vibration. Snorkel-type air-intake system is specially designed to resist water intrusion. Integral electric carburetor heater system improves driveability and ensures smooth operation in cold conditions. Closed crankcase vent system safeguards against engine oil contamination. USDA-qualified spark arrester/muffler is constructed of stainless steel. Traxlok is easily engaged by pushing a switch on the right handlebar. An electromagnetic mechanical clutch unit located on the center of the propeller shaft engages 4WD with a quiet two-way roller clutch. Traxlok ensures smooth operation by employing a magnetic switching mechanism that engages when front and rear wheel speeds vary by less than 6 mph. A 4WD indicator light on the LCD meter shows "actual" 4WD/2WD engagement status. Electric Shift Program (ESP) provides push-button upshifting and downshifting. The rider shifts simply and precisely with the press of the upshift or downshift button mounted on the left handlebar. An onboard electronic control module (ECM) monitors information from four sensors--engine rpm, countershaft speed, shift drum angle and shift spindle angle--to control the speed of the electric shift motor's gear and clutch engagement. Gear-engagement speed varies according to rider style: The transmission shifts more quickly when riding style turns sporty. A neutral lockout at speeds greater than 2 mph ensures available engine braking when descending hills. For smooth shifting, the transmission cannot be shifted from Neutral to First gear or Reverse gear at engine speeds above 3000 rpm. ESP is not battery-dependent, operating whenever the engine is running. Should the rider ever need to shift manually, the ES model is also equipped with an auxiliary shift lever in the tool kit. Super-heavy-duty automatic clutch for excellent driveability and towing capacity. Convenient five-speed transmission with Reverse. Maintenance-free shaft drive with torque-sensing front differential routes power directly from the longitudinally mounted engine without inefficient directional changes. Convenient electric starter with auxiliary recoil starter features an automatic internal decompression system. Wet-sump engine carries a large 3.2-quart capacity. CD ignition with electronic advance for excellent performance and reliability. Reusable foam air filter. Chassis/Suspension Rugged frame and suspension provide an exceptional 7.5 inches of ground clearance. Independent double-wishbone front suspension uses KYB shock absorbers to give 6.7 inches of travel. Steel swingarm and dual KYB rear shock absorbers give 6.7 inches of travel. Rugged, large-diameter 25x8-12 front, 25x10-12 rear tires provide added ground clearance while maintaining precise handling. Dual 180mm front hydraulic disc brakes combine with sealed 180mm mechanical rear drum for excellent stopping capabilities.
  18. I want to thank everyone for the winch advise and suggestions. I ended up with a Viper 3500lb. The instalation wasn't to bad considering I've never installed one before. The wires were all color coded and their web site was very helpfull. I mounted a toggle switch under the seat so a kid or a novice rider can't accidently engage the winch. The winch works great and has way more power than I'll ever need. Any more power and I think it would stretch the frame. The only negative issue, and it's very minor; is the steel cable is a little too long. I'll be cutting off about 5 or 6 feet because it tends to bind up in the spool when almost fully spooled unless it's spooled perfecty even. Again, this is no big deal, the winch works great. Thanks again to everyone who took time to respond when I asked for help.
  19. Does anyone out there know where I can get a functional pair of wheel cylinders for subject ATV? Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks
  20. Im working on a old 1987 honda 125 4 wheeler in the school shop. It will start by getting pulled by another 4 wheeler but wont start with the pull start or Electric Start. When you pull start it it tries to start but when you try the electric start it just turns over but doesnt even act like it wants to start. The spark plug is dry and it shoots fuel out of the back(air filter side) of the carb. Weve had the carb off twice and it is complety clean. What are some things we can try?
  21. ok it will start up an run but quits a lot till it gets warm, but has a bad miss an wont idle, I have a brand new Honda carb on it, good gas flow, new plug, but when I let the throttle go below a quarter, it backfires through carb an tail pipe:confused: so it has never had any electrical work or mechanical work done...it just started all the sudden, I'm think it may have ignition coil breaking down, or cdi box going bad...anyone had this trouble before? let me know what you did to fix it. thanks:skeptic:
  22. Ok so I have a recon 250 that will not idle. It will rev up and go as long as u don't let it idle it will run fine. Fist thought to everyone I know would be the idle jet. Cleaned the carb and put a kit in it while I was there. Changed the spark plug as well. These carbs have that fuel cut off vacuum valve on it. If I take the line that's coming from the intake and plug it off it will idle just fine with no problem. I know its not how its pos to be but I just cant figure anything out on it. Im at a lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated. O Ive already checked the valves and also adjusted the air. Its got to be something with the vacuum operated valve whatever it is or does... Thanks.
  23. Does anyone on here have a 2013 honda rancher? I have had several Honda ranchers in the past but I bought this 2013 rancher and it hits the rev limiter at half throttle. It is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone else's Rancher does this. If this is something from the factory or if I have a problem or not just trying to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated
  24. Have been using it to plow my driveway, worked fine until about a week ago. Suddenly the front wheels are the only one engaging and the rear wheels are not. Shifts and goes forward and reverse just fine but with front wheels only. Thanks Any Ideas
  25. anybody can tell me what is the outside diameter of a kingpin bushing # 51215-950-000 Thanks Gignac02
