  1. Got a question and hopefully find some help. I have a 95 Timberwolf 250 that I picked up and it didnt want to idle. I have rebuild the carb with new kit replacing all the jets and float seat. Blew out the ports with the air compressor after I soaked the carb and cleaned the ports with a fine piece of wire and it still wont idle on its own. Has new air filter. I had it running and sprayed around the carb and carb joint and didnt get a rapid acceleration as if I had a leak. I read somewhere how the standard jets are like a number #40 and people have replaced them with a bigger jet. I called the local dealer here and they said they cant order jets and was wondering if this could be the problem and if so where can you order them at. Any info/help is highly appreciated. Sorry for being so long, just want to get as much info out as I can.
  2. Have a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 that only has 34mi. on a carb & ring job. Cut the gas off today to drain carb.Now engine will not idle.If I open throttle will run,but let off & will cut off.Can screw idle in with no change. What happened? Why did this happen when fuel ran out? Please help me,my ATV is a daily driver. Please help!!
  3. Ok so I have a recon 250 that will not idle. It will rev up and go as long as u don't let it idle it will run fine. Fist thought to everyone I know would be the idle jet. Cleaned the carb and put a kit in it while I was there. Changed the spark plug as well. These carbs have that fuel cut off vacuum valve on it. If I take the line that's coming from the intake and plug it off it will idle just fine with no problem. I know its not how its pos to be but I just cant figure anything out on it. Im at a lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated. O Ive already checked the valves and also adjusted the air. Its got to be something with the vacuum operated valve whatever it is or does... Thanks.
  4. Does anyone on here have a 2013 honda rancher? I have had several Honda ranchers in the past but I bought this 2013 rancher and it hits the rev limiter at half throttle. It is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone else's Rancher does this. If this is something from the factory or if I have a problem or not just trying to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated

Was driving in mud playin around heard fan come on obce then didnt hear it come on anymore drove up to house and it stalled , now i can start it and starts real easy but once warm it dies even if i turn up idle , i was threw alot of mud and water , was wondering if the fan not coming on will trigger a sensor or something and cause this , starts great runs ok till its warm then dies or screws around when i keep it running ....
  6. The quad starts but wont idle sometimes it idles high then dies. When riding it will be fine for a while then it will cut out. It has lots of power, is it time to rebuild the carb or is there other issues?
  7. I have a badger 80 for my son. It runs decent but at idle in neutral it revs up by itself then when shifted into gear it jumps pretty hard. Any ideas as to what adjustments I can make to stop this would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to know if anyone has or knows where I can get a service manual for it. Thanks.
  8. My 1999 Sportsman 500 since new has had very few issues during the 16+ years I have owned it so it has been a fantastic machine! The problem showed up a number of months ago during hunting season and in essence once you start to ride it and then stop, it wants to continue to creep forward and makes it difficult to shift gears and there is a bit of grind when you do. Runs fantastic and seem to be no other problems with power to the wheels in 2WD/4WD so the only time you notice it is when you stop and especially if you need to change gears. I am looking for a starting point on where the problem could be. Appreciate any help! Craig
  9. Hi all,sure hope someone can help. Have a 87 lt 4 wd, started running rich. Flooding after shut down and wouldn't idle. Rebuilt carb,was nice and clean inside. Now it starts fine but will not idle,too lean.will rev fine. Drilled out the pilot jet just to see if that would change things and it will idle,but loads up too much. Also played with the float.Tried different pilot jets but after a few still no good. Have just about given up. Was trying to find one of the after market carbs that will work. My intake side is 30mm. Anyone have any ideas ???? By the way I own a PWC sales and service co and spend a lot of time doing carbs....never had one like this !!
  10. Just picked up a 2004 Sportsman 600. Was running great. After a day of tearing up the yard, it will not staying idling unless I am giving it a bit of gas. I looked for the idle adjustment screw but it was not where the manual illustrated it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Got the bike brand new in July of 2009. ran great, snorkeled it and tuned the snorkel so no mixture adjustment was necessary. it wasn't long before the bike was difficult to start. it will not start now without hitting the gas. even after the motor is nice and hot it won't start without getting on the throttle. then it idles rough once it starts. it sounds like the timing is off. There's a very faint black smoke from the exhaust, and the plug was black, so it appears as though it has been running rich. HOWEVER, I can take the airbox lid off and take the air filter out and it makes no difference. still has that black smoke and sputtering idle. it runs perfectly when you're riding it. no sputtering, no lack of power, nothing. side notes: the idle adjustment screw got really hard to turn, I have to use pliers now. the idle is sporadic, it's either about to stall or it's revving at 3000rpm. the choke only seems to work about half the time. could the choke be sticking and causing a rich condition at the carb?
  13. 2006 yamaha wolverine 450 carb cold idle issues it stays running when I have the choke up but when I put it back down to idle it wants to stall out. This machine only has 218 miles had has pretty much been sitting for that long lol. Runs great in the warm but is really rough in the cold. I am going to try to change the gas, new air filter, and spark plugs. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
  14. I just purchased a 2007 Z90 and it runs great but wont sit there and idle. If I barely give hold the throttle it will idle pretty smooth. I dont see any adjustment so I have no idea where to start looking for the problem. I checked spark plug already. Ive never had anything with no carb adjustments (or I cant find them)
  15. Hi, first time user here. My 91 Big bear will only idle on half choke. I was given the bike after it was laid up for a year or more under a car port. I have re-built the carb, replaced ignition coil, new plug, new plug cap, cleaned gas tank, fresh gas (obviously. It will start on half choke, run on half choke but when I try to take the choke off when the engine is fully warmed up after 10 mins or more of running it just starts to splutter and dies with a few little back puffs through the air air intake. Ive tried various carb adjustments but all to no avail. Ive also tried adjusting the float as it seems that the mixture is lean. Im running out of ideas.
  16. Hey guys could use some help here. Have polaris 400 95' dang thing no matter what i doe for adjusting the carb still does same thing. Cleaned it thoroughly. Seems to start fine when choke is open but as soon as i take it off it revs up for a second then just dies. Plus doesnt seem to idle properly. Have adjusted the idle screw and air fuel screw to no end still have same problem. Need help anyone? Anyone?
  17. 2007 650 H1 with dynojet jet kit. I changed pilot jet to a 42. Now when I let off the throttle it does not return to idle. It takes a noticable amount of time.
  18. I need a little help here. I just bought a '94 160 cc Quadrunner and I really don't know anything about these. It stalls when it goes to idle. I can't turn the idle screw in any farther so I'm thinking it's the air screw. Can anyone tell me which screw is the air screw? Are there any other adjustments for idle? Also, there is a kind of plunger under the tank that you can pull in and out about a quarter of an inch. Can anyone tell me what that is? Any help would be appreciated.
  19. Hey all just got done rebuilding carb and have a problem. The carb is back to stock settings 1 1/2 out on Air screw and factory jets. My problem is now when its running its got a high idle. the needle slide is flush at bottom and the choke is working properly and the idle screw is backed out and not touching the slide but still have a high idle. I checked the boot from carb to engine and it has no leaks. I sprayed carb cleaner all around it and its not leaking no where Can anyone help please im stumped Thanks
  20. I have a 97 sportsman 500 I bought that wasn't running when I got it. Got it running after a new pulsator coild on the stator and a carb rebuild. Went to take it for the maiden voyage, popped it in reverse to back out of the garage and almost hit my bass boat due to the wheeler going into high idle as soon as I got it in gear! I push the override button while it is in neutral and it revs high. As soon as it is engaged into reverse it is high rev and going so fast the brakes can't completely stop it[/b]. I am assuming it is a problem with the override switch, but not sure.. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!
  21. Hello my name is Josh and I'm new to this forum. I have a problem with my 03 Quadrunner 250 Idling way to high. I have rebuilt the carburetor and gave a proper cleaning. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but nothing happens. From what I can tell I don't have and vacuum leaks. When i spray carburetor cleaner on the air filter side it idles down to normal rpms and then after about a min or 2 it goes right back up. Any help will be appreciated im at my whits end with this. thank you
  22. i have a proplem with the idel i just got it from a friend who has't ran it in a long time so i changed the spark plugs and clean the carbs now it starts but idel real high ad the idel revs up and down so i mess with the idel screws and got it set but when i press the gas it shuts off does anyone know how to set them
  23. So I tore apart the carb and took out 30 years worth of rust and mud. Looks pretty now. Re-installed and got it running. After setting the pilot screw to factory recomendations. Seat, then back it out two, I tried to adjust the throttle stop screw to make it idle correctly. It seemed to be idling fine, I drove it around the block a couple times, and when I stopped in neutral to idle the rpm's started to climb and started pumping out white smoke. I killed the engine before any damage could be done. Any suggestions? The throttle stop screw was adjusted to almost all the way seated before it would idle correctly.
  24. My 2000 Arctic Cat 300 is having starting and running issues. You have to crank it over while putting your hand on back of carb to get it to try to start, then it will only start by flipping up decompression switch and pull starting. When it warms up, then it will start fine with electric start. Once it warms up, it idles fine for awhile, then starts to idle up to a high rpm, if you push down on shift lever and let up slow, it will then idle down. I just leave it in gear. It was having trouble running at full throttle. I took the carb apart and cleaned it and found the tube that the float needle valve goes into had a bad gasket and was letting to much gas into bowl. Replaced that and now runs great at full throttle. Don't know if I messed up any adjustments or not. Any info would be greatly apprecciated. Thanks, Brian...
  25. I can't get my sons ltzs carb adjusted properly. The carb has been cleaned and re jetted as per the dynojet instructions and i still have the hanging idle. I can get the idle to come down quickly but only by lowering the idle to a point to where it won't stay running. As soon as I raise the idle to anywhere betwen 1250 and 1500 the hanging idle is back. The bike revs up fine and then just won't return to the set idle without hanging at higher rpms for a bit. Every shift is like power or speed shifting. I have tried numerous jets and adjusting the fuel screw with no luck. Any insite would be appreciated. Thanks.
