Hello. New here. Just picked up a used 350 motor out of a 1991 big bear. Going to put into my 1986 350 moto 4. From what I've read the engines are the same. The only difference so far I've notice is I have to change out transfer case. The moto 4 isn't 4x4. Has anyone done the same swap and any advice before I tackle it.

Hi all, I have an 86 motor 4 that has starter clutch issues. (YFM225) Because I cant afford to put much money into this old machine, I hope to get some guidance before spending more. (already spent too much!) I have replaced the starter clutch multiple times with used ones that are supposedly good. Each time it fixes the problem for a short time, and then it returns. Sometimes I have noticed the socket head cap screws have loosened. I clean and re-assemble using removable locktite and that seems to help, but still issues with the clutch itself. Any suggestions? Questions, is it maybe the small springs behind the rollers are weak? Regarding the surface on the flywheel that the rollers touch. I have noticed that most of the flywheels I have used do have small wear marks on them. I have smoothed them out using a small stone to the point you can barely feel them. Does this surface need to be perfect? Are clutches and flywheels matched. It seems that depending on which flywheel I use, the timing can vary slightly like its not quite firing at the right time, hard to start, etc. My theory is that there must be slight variances in the keyway location between flywheels. Is my theory correct? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi Guys, Just wondered if anyone can help, I have just bought a 1990s YFM350 Moto4, and I am struggling to identify the model/ year of the bike. I was told it was a 1997, but would not count on that. Its a 2WD model with cable operated brakes shoes on the front, cable operated disc at the rear and the choke next to the speedo. I have been trawling sets of microfiche, but can't seem to find a model with the same brakes as mine. The only part of the frame number I can make out looks like it starts 2VA. Thanks in advance, if anyone can help. Tim

My 1995 yam 350 moto4 blows rear differential fluid out the diff breather. Diff is not overfilled. What would cause this / how to fix? Thanks. Sam

Hey folks, Im a newbie in them har parts. I gave a friend a junker side by side fridge and he gave me an old junker 89 Yamaha Moto 4. Wasn't a swap, it just worked out that way. I love to tinker, and it has low range and reverse so I thot would make a tractor out of it. I farm; too old to jump and stuff! But it don't run (motors not seized though) So like some people who curl up with a good book thought I would curl up with a good tinker LOL. I am Mario James, hailing from a little rock south of the Florida panhandle called JAMAICA. I've looked at the stickies and I don't see an manual for my quad. I don't know if any one on this forum might point me in the direction of a service manual for a 1989 Yamaha Moto4 250 cc ATV? Because I intend to farm with it, I wonder if a simple head - sleeve piston change might bump up the displacement to 300cc, or even 350? (YFM motor) Also could anybody tell me if anyone has done a brake conversion to hydraulics at both ends...instead of the cable? (cables don't last long in every day dirt an mud). Also wanna put the clutch under my left hand where it belongs, and do away with the centrifugal setup. Thanks and cheers to everyone!

Just checking up, now that im getting to giving the new "to me" 93 moto4 350 2wd a tune up. Are there any weak points to really keep an eye on for failure? Never had a shaft driven quad before. On a side note, my yamaha came with a plow which i fully plan to use this winter, are there any dos and donts for plows with this quad? gears to avoid? etc? obviously letting your bike warm up etc.

Hey everybody! I'm new to the forum and need some help with an old moto4. I just put the cylinder and head back on after having it bored out. I undoubtedly got my marks off when putting it back together because the piston is hitting what I assume is a valve when I turn the motor over (by hand). The cam sprocket indicator is pointed down in line with the crank indicator.it is set on the 1st mark to the right of the "T". Am I completely off track or just a little off. Any help is appreciated.

I have a 1986 Yamaha YFM225, Moto-4, 4x2 It devloped a noise in the driveline: Sounds like a clicking and has a slight catching feel. It gets worse if you are on a bind, say turning left or roght or going up hill. No noise going down a smooth road. It sounds like a universal joint going bad on a car. How do I check the U-joints on this model and or replace them? I did drain the differential oil and it is clean, no gold or silver glitter or metal pieces, so I am ruling out the differential. Thank You
