  1. Hey guys and gals, I recently bought a 1994 yamaha big bear 350 with... surprise surprise.. rear diff problems. I have taken the rear diff all apart and the problem is the pinion bearings are both screwed. (Hope Im using the correct terms) Anyways there is a collar that has 4 "divets" in it that ya can beat on with a punch and it should turn. Well Ive beat on that collar and it is not turning. I have lubed, soaked, heated, cooled, you name it, and that collar will NOT budge. So as a last ditch effort before I take a die grinder and grind that collar outta there, I thought I would throw a post in here, and maybe someone has some trick or advice they can add that maybe I havent thought of. Now the axle, taking it out needed a beating, and I ended up screwing up the threads that hold the hub on, and eventually broke them right off. My plan is to drill about an inch hole in the end of the axle, thread it, thread a grade 8 bolt in there, loctite it in, then throw a bead of weld around the bolt. Im thinking for the little light duty puttering around I do with this quad, that this idea should be enough to repair the axle so the hub stays on, rather then fork out big bucks for a used or new one. Thoughts on both repairs would be great!

  3. Hi, just picked up a MOTO 4 YFM255 and want to replace the rear brake pads. How do I get to the back. Guessing I need to remove the brake disk, question any easy way to do this? Thanks

  5. When I push down on the rear brake pedal, it makes the left hand brake very sloppy. Is there a way to adjust that? I have a 2007 Suzuki Vinson

  7. Since I am not much of a mechanic simple things confuse me. How do you remove the old brake cable for the pedal brake from the frame? Thought I could just pry it out but no luck and not much room to work. Any help is appreciated.

  9. Can someone tell me how to remove the rear sifferential. I've got the cv axels out. Do I remove the rear shaft. Or do I pull differential off shaft. Noticed the axel shaft leaking where it go's in the engine. .

I have a 99 Yamaha bear tracker and I have converted the front brakes from drum to disc fairly easy but I cant figure out how to convert the rear with out hacking apart the rear arm. tried to use parts from a wolverine since the rear arms look similar but the caliper mount didn't line up on the bear tracker axle. Can anyone give me any clues or has anyone successfully converted the bear tracker rear brakes. I would even purchase a conversion kit if there is one. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a kq a few weeks ago and the exhaust is not the greatest but it looks complicated on removing it.the manual says remove the rear shock and wheel and plastic.is this true?thats a lot of work just for a rear section.also is there any after market rear sections for these quads or what can I use to replace it
  12. I have a yamaha wolverine 350 4x4 2002. I was riding and something popped and the rear wheels quit pulling. I got it home using front wheel drive. I pulled axle and rear end all still good. what should I check out next?
  13. Rear axle top up threaded housing broke today; please see pic. Quad still usable until today but no value in it for costly replacement. Would welcome any thoughts on "how can I keep it running" can the housing be repaired ???

  15. just bought a 91 big bear 4x4. if i go too fast it locks up and the rear wheels will not turn. if i put it in reverse and back up a bit it "resets it" and i can keep going. does this sound like a tranny issue? diff issue? or transfer case issue? i will tear it down but if you guys have an inkling of what could cause this issue it would give me a place to start regards, VikingTrad3r.
  16. My big bear makes some crazy grinding/clanking noises when backing up. I am guessing that this is a fairly common problem since I am having a pretty hard time finding parts and when I do they are very expensive. Does anyone have any advice? What all is there out there for interchange? My big bear also has some other issues....if I am running it all day, I will have to change the spark plug at least once because it will foul one out. The rear end has been making this noise for over a year now and you can actually feel it through the machine also. My quad is not used for play but only work...search and rescue, running around the property pulling parts (80 acres), plowing snow, spraying weeds, fertilizing, and fencing. Once on a search and rescue mission while coming back on the gravel roads back to the trailers at top speed there was a loud bang like it bounded up and popped loose and continued going but it was loud and felt it very well. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems?
  17. 1995 350 Yamaha Wolverine 4x4. Are the dif gear splines harder material than the axle splines? If so can I replace just the axle itself? Also what other years and/or models interchange?
  18. Any sort of chart created to show which hubs fit upon which axle? As in hubs from an 07 fit a 87 but the total width increases by 1" per side, etc. I was hunting down a set of rear hubs to fit on my 1987 YFM350 Moto-4 to get rid of a wobble and read a few pages of search hits here, but other than some comments that many years do fit, I have no real understanding as to what could fit my 1987 or what the effect would be using different hubs. A chart would help then ordering/buying new rims would be easier when offset changes are known in some chart... I am shopping for some rears on eBay, some list the year some do not, the 07 Grizzly ones looked like they would fit but increase the width between bolt stud spacing vs the OEM style and thought a chart would help if one were available...
  19. Bought a kazuma 110 yesterday with carb issues, needs new front sprocket, and a ignition switch which is no big deal. Got the quad near dark, got from a friend so didn't think it would be a problem. Long story short their is a lot of things wrong he didn't tell me about including the rear wheels are locked up and wil not move, read on other forums that the rear diff was more than likely screwed up. Was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a rear diff rebuild kit for a kazuma because I cant find one online, Does it have to be a kazuma rebuild kit? how much do you think a mechanic would charge to rebuild? Any other suggestions would be appreciated greatly!

I cant find help anywhere so Hope this is the place, I traded for a 98 350 bigbear 4x4, has no brakes at all, so I have back brake assembly apart and I think it just needed cleaning and adjustment, theres a thing I guess its called the camshaft that lifts shoes up against drum. it needs adjusting, in back it has this arrow, should the can lay horizontial front to rear or is there a certain position, any help would be great:
  21. I have a 2007 Polaris Outlaw 525 KTM. The rear wheels locked up while riding. I read where it could be a retention bolt or retainer plate. Could anyone tell me where they are located and how difficult it is to fix. Thanks
  22. I am working on my nephews 1998 wolverine. I am replacing all the bearings and seals in the rear end. I need to know how to determine what shim to put on the rear pinion. According to my shop manual you take the number on the pinion gear and the number on the case and do some math. Problem is there are no numbers on the pinion gear. I measured the old one and it reads .18. According to the parts list the smallest they list is .3. Anyone got any information I would appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of or has a pinion for a 1998 or newer Wolverine that is in good shape and they want to get rid of it let me know what you want. Thanks
  23. The rear axle has some slop in the CV boot where it goes into the transmission. How much play is normal. It is not making any noise. Can that joint be replaced and if so where to get parts. I have replaced CV joints and u-joints in cars just not atv's Thanks

I am in the process of putting a rear swing arm on an atv, and by the way it looks i have to pull the rear differential off the swing arm to get the spline shaft back into place on the differential that comes off the back of the transfer case.. Anyways i got the brake assembly off the hubs off and the two ring nuts and cant get the axle shaft to slide out of the rear differential, i am using a block of wood and a good size hammer and hitting the axle on the left hand side if you were standing behind the machine... can a guy try a press??? any help would be greatly appreciated...
  25. I'm in need of the torque specs for the rear output shaft pinion nut torque specs. Does anybody have them? As it is a pain in the @#$% to do I only want to do it this one time. Thank you.
