  1. Good morning all you quad motor heads out there. I bought my girls a Recon 250. nice quad except one thing. After riding the 2 miles to get to my house, my middle child stalled it. Cant get it to turn over. I can pull start it. And the battery is fully charged. My question is....I cant find an alternator or what is used to charge the battery. is it some type of solenoid? And if so is it that 2" square relay looking thing that sits behind the battery and the cables run through? or is that just a relay? And lastly, if that is not it, what am I looking for on the bike that charges the battery?
  2. Iam looking for help seperating the rear brake drum and the cover. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate
  3. ok it will start up an run but quits a lot till it gets warm, but has a bad miss an wont idle, I have a brand new Honda carb on it, good gas flow, new plug, but when I let the throttle go below a quarter, it backfires through carb an tail pipe:confused: so it has never had any electrical work or mechanical work done...it just started all the sudden, I'm think it may have ignition coil breaking down, or cdi box going bad...anyone had this trouble before? let me know what you did to fix it. thanks:skeptic:
  4. Ok so I have a recon 250 that will not idle. It will rev up and go as long as u don't let it idle it will run fine. Fist thought to everyone I know would be the idle jet. Cleaned the carb and put a kit in it while I was there. Changed the spark plug as well. These carbs have that fuel cut off vacuum valve on it. If I take the line that's coming from the intake and plug it off it will idle just fine with no problem. I know its not how its pos to be but I just cant figure anything out on it. Im at a lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated. O Ive already checked the valves and also adjusted the air. Its got to be something with the vacuum operated valve whatever it is or does... Thanks.
  5. neutral light does not come on when in neutral, engine will not turn over. have not found any bare wires or loose connections. not sure exactly where the neutral switch is located or how to replace it. battery is hot and reverse light works
  6. I have a 2007 Honda Recon ES and need some new tires. The stock tire sizes are 22x10-9 and 22x7-11. I'm looking at some Carlisle AT489 tires but the closest sizes i can find are 22x10-10 and 22x7-12. Will they fit? Thanks.
  7. I need a good used bottom end or complete engine that is compatible with the 2003 Honda TRX250ES Recon. I prefer the electric shift model. I believe that several model years will fit.
  8. Looking for a used crankshaft (cheap) for a 2003 Honda Recon or 250EX. Several model years will work. I only need the timing chain sprocket, but I can remove it from the old crank.

  11. Hello Forum Members. I have a 2001 TRX 250 Recon that I purchased about 6 months ago and now experiencing problems with the main fuse blowing when I rev up the engine. Let me give a little history on the ATV. The previous owner says that the battery is approximately 1 to 1 1/2 years old. The ATV will start when jumped, but will not restart immediately after turning off ATV. If the battery is charged while out of the ATV, the battery will last about about a week until it's dead. The ATV ran great, the only problem I had was the engine would stall after a hard acceleration. A quick pull on the pull start and I was good to go (battery would not crank motor). I installed a new battery and that is when I started having the problem of the 15A Main fuse blowing. I would start the motor and rev it a couple times and then the fuse would blow. I replaced the battery with the old one and replaced the fuse, thinking the new battery was the problem, and the same thing happened. Did the installation of a new battery cause my problem? I read in other posts about the regulator/rectifier being the cause of the main fuse blowing, so I unplugged it and the problem wasn't resolved. Any ideas or places to start looking? Could it be a bad alternator being it sounds as though the battery wasn't charging? Thanks in advanced for all replies! Phil
  12. I have seen a few lift kits available that seem really basic and are very inexpensive ($70-100) So Ive been considering doing a 2" lift. But WHAT are the disadvantages? does it weaken components?
  13. Going to have to get some new tires for my '98 Recon. I have read somewhere about the feasibility of larger tires. anybody have any experiences with using larger tires? I know that there is a limit on how much larger you can go. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, martin
  14. I'm sure you have all wondered about snorkels on your ATV and I have finally went for it and made dual snorkels for my ATV. My quad, like most, comes with a factory snorkel So I removed that and put some 1.5" PVC out of it with two 45 degrees to get around the engine like so: Then I continued off of that with a straight piece going by the engine and into the fender then in the fender I used 3 90 degrees to clear make sure the wheel never rubs on it. I dont have a good pic but I used a T pipe at the top part to split it into a dual snorkel (I had a single but the dual made a difference by giving it all the airflow it needed) Here is a picture of the whole assembly if you are having trouble visualizing it After all that I painted the PVC black then used clear tubing (refrigerator water line) to extend the factory vent lines from the rear drum and differential. This is very important... here are some finished pictures (I dont have any from the OHV park but they have passed the creak test )
  15. I was wanting to add some larger tires so I decided to find a 2" lift. I decided to go with one I found on Ebay that included 1.5" wheel spacers. I am very happy with both the ride and the looks now. What do you think?
  16. Anyone know of a good thread about adjusting the valves. I noticed Saturday when I took my son riding that there was a noticeable loss of power in his recon. Ive replaced the plug and it was running fresh gas. Im going to adjust the clutch in the morning, but I am leaning more towards the valves since Ive had to adjust them on my suzuki and my daughters yamaha in the past, for the same reason. I have no experience with honda and I wanna make sure Its done right. Thanks in advance.
  17. ok i need this question answer quickly before i might make a fool of myself. my friend is picking up a 2008 honda recon 420 tomarrow and i dont know if i should race him or not. im pretty sure i would beat him but just going here to have some questions answered first. 1) obviously, he will beat me on the trails. but any hint on how to outrun him making him feel like an idiot? 2) any mods i might want to get before i race him? nothing toooo expensive 3)do you think i will win or not? im a pretty good rider and he used to have a big bear 400 that he rode like once a month and never got out of 3rd gear, so hes not the greatest rider. like they say. its the rider that wins the race, not the bike

  19. I bought the wife a 07 250 Recon ES this past friday. I highly recomend it if interested in one. I will give more details and compare it to my 02 Ozark as we ride some more.
