  1. I have a 96 Yamaha Big Bear 350 2x4 which up till yesterday was running ok. However out of the blue as I was going through the field it started missing if you tried to go over half throttle. It will start and run up to about half throttle and then it starts to miss. I changed to a new spark plug thinking it maybe had some carbon buildup but that didn't help. I put a new filter on it this spring as I do each spring but it seems more like something electrical in nature. Anny ideas? Thanks
  2. I am working on a 500 that seems to have me stumped. The quad will start but will only run if I keep pumping the throttle. It smells like it is getting way to much fuel and the plug is always wet when I take it out. I took the carb apart and cleaned it really good twice. Still the same problem. So I swapped the carb with another working quad. That quad runs fine with the carb but the problem quad still runs the same. I swapped the coil this did not solve the problem either. I also checked the timing with a timing light and it seems to be good. I am not sure what I am missing. Any ideas?
  3. Does anyone on here have a 2013 honda rancher? I have had several Honda ranchers in the past but I bought this 2013 rancher and it hits the rev limiter at half throttle. It is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone else's Rancher does this. If this is something from the factory or if I have a problem or not just trying to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated
  4. I have a 1998 Suzuki King Quad 300 that runs rough when I'm pushing wet snow, or when I drive through taller wet grass. Can anyone suggest what might be exposed in the undercarriage that should affect how the King Quad runs when it gets wet?
  5. Well, looks like my ghost is back after the post below from last fall. Haven't had time to work on her much till this spring, so here's an update. Yes, I've got this old 2000 300KQ running per se'; starting reliably, sounds good and run great for a few seconds, but she kept overflowing the vent hose and flooding pretty fast... So after an in-line filter and multiple cleanings, I decided to throw a Shindy rebuild kit in the carb to try and cure the float valve that seemed to be the issue... Followed everyone's instruction, matching settings, and replaced everything except for the primary air jet behind that cap. Hear that isn't typically an issue, especially for a flooding carb. So I got it running again, no flooding, starts right up. But has little response mid range, before spitting an sputtering, and can't handle WOT at all, barely stays running. At first, it would not start at all without half choke or more, and ran faster with the choke on, like the choke was opening the throttle... Backing out the pilot screw helped with that somewhat, and now it just needs a tiny bit of choke to start, about like my other 300KQ. Idles fine, sounds great, up until you ask for power. Now I'm wondering if the thing is either starving for fuel, or running too rich. Know I should be looking at the metering rod and needle jet, and have adjusted up and down 1 notch from starting point in the center. Down seemed to be a good bit worse, so that makes me think it's already rich enough. Up seemed to help and it's on the second from the top right now. I've taken to troubleshooting with the air cleaner tube out, so I could flip the carb up and back in and make adjustments. Doing that I can drag down the inbound air a bit and get it to rev up some better, but wouldn't that mean it's too lean and needs more fuel, right? When I added the in line fuel filter, I had to stub on a hose from the petcock to the main fuel line for it, and I used to see the fuel pulse in it. After fixing the flooding with a rebuildin kit, it's not pulsing, but seems to gravity fill fine when in prime. So may need to check that and make sure I'm getting good fuel delivery/pressure from the vacuum line working that pump under the fender. Ugh, this thing is killing me slowly. Tomorrow, I'm gonna check battery voltage, rectifier voltage, and fuel pressure, to make sure those are all good and I don't have problems with that. Seen all of those giving folks fits beyond just idling. But I have let it idle for an hour, and it'll keep on running just fine idling along. As a side note, a couple of times after I got it running in the fall, it ran AMAZINGLY well, crazy power, and perfect response messing around in the yard, then the next day it'd ran like crap. Start it and mess with it, clean the carb, and it'd be running great again, only to start flooding again. So you'd think it was licked only with another cleaning, but then it got hard to start, and run like crap again. Then it started the running great for a few seconds, then filling the vent and pushing fuel out up that tube under over the tank by the shift levers just sitting at idle. So I figured it must have been that float valve giving out, and after taking the carb off, I could easily get gas passed it with just gravity, and even more if you blow on the hose, even with it held closed with full up on the float, hence why the rebuild kit. Just wondering what else I should be looking at, if anyone has any ideas, I'd sure like to hear them. Will let you guys know what I find next. Many thanks! http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/suzuki-atv-forum/13359-700-2000-kq-saga-revival.html
  6. So I bought a 2008 Raptor 350 off a guy for $300 he told me all it needed was a new stator. So I bought a new stator and put it in it. When I did that the fourwheeler would start and shut off. I asked a buddy and he said that when you replace the stator you replace the voltage regulator. So I got a new one one and put that in it and it still starts up and shut off when you touch the gas. But if I unplug the voltage regulator it runs good until the fourwheeler gets to a certain RPM then it shuts off. Does anyone know what the problem is??
  7. Took the honda out through some fairly deep water the other day and when I let off of the throttle the exhaust would backfire. After a few minutes it quit me. I let it sit a while and it started again. Drove it about 2 miles and it quit twice on the way back. Let it sit a day and it seems to run just fine again. Im sure something got wet, just wondering what got wet and how to water proof it. Thanks
  8. Ok, I have an earlier thread but I thought id start a new one since things have changed. To my amazement amy Kawasaki 300 started on the first pull this morning and has everytime now. It runs and shifts out just like it should. Its making a not so good knocking sound from the right side cover tho. I pulled out my stethoscope(prybar) Im really started to question if the clutch berring is coming apart. If I ride this thing and it completely goes will it destroy the engine? How hard is it to replace this berring? Is there anything else in that area of the engine that tends to fail and make a knocking noise? It sounds like its coming from the cover where is says Kawasaki. Thanks for the help.
  9. I recently purchased a 1993 Yamaha Big Bear 350 for $300 from a guy at work who could not get it running, getting rid of old fuel and changing the plug it fired up, it has a new carb rebuild that was done before i bought it, problem i have is that it only starts and runs on half choke, even in the -15 celcius canadian weather today. im not sure where to start on this, any help would be great, thanks.
  10. Hi everyone how are you.I have a 2007 yamaha grizzly 700efi .One day out of nowhere my atv started to run really rough.turns over fine but i need to press the throttle for it to start and hold it here and there so the atv does not stall out.it does not stay idling.its really choppy at low revs and as i press the throttle it gets better almost normal in high revs.i have the original exhaust and i drilled out the baffle in it for better flow and i also installed a stealth exhaust.stealth exhaust is a extra exhaust and it acts like a silencer.i also noticed lots of black smoke coming out the exhaust. i had this set up for 3-4 years with out a problem till about a year ago. i tried lot of things like: new spark plugs, different spark plugs, new k&n filter, ignition coil, adjusted the valve clearance, swapped ecu, checked all fuses, took stealth exhaust off, drained old gas and put new gas in,and so far had no luck the atv is not showing any error codes.if anyone can help that would be great, thank you.
  11. I just purchased a 2007 Z90 and it runs great but wont sit there and idle. If I barely give hold the throttle it will idle pretty smooth. I dont see any adjustment so I have no idea where to start looking for the problem. I checked spark plug already. Ive never had anything with no carb adjustments (or I cant find them)
  12. My 1999 500 Sportsman runs but has no power and backfires through the carb. Doesn't even have enough power to get up the ramps to the bed of my truck. Has new carb. Engine was rebuilt but I don't know if everything was new when they rebuilt it.
  13. Hi all, My Late 2004 Sportsman 500 fan runs with the ignition off and is not running to the normal speed. I had to disconnect the battery to shut off the fan. Looking at the wiring diagram it appears that the SSCB No. 1 is the only possible source of the issue. I assume this is also called the ECM but not possitive. Has anyone else seen this type of issue and is the SSCB need to be replaced or is there other items like dirty connections that may be the source of the issue. Thanks! Craig
  14. I just purchased a 2006 Artic cat 400 4x4 auto trans ,and first thing it had sat a while so I cleaned the tank and boiled the carb out put back together and got it cranked but it will not take but half throttle before it Boggs , so I pulled the carb put inline filter and cleaned the carb again I boiled it overnight in carb cleaner in the gallon jug took out washed off and blew out ran small wire thru everything and put the jets back in and all back together, still Boggs at half throttle going down the road I know carbs is clean.put a new plug and coil in it and still did the same thing ,then all at once no spark so would not crank checked all wires for shorts none found then I turned my key switch to we're the lights were on and it sparked but with the key switch in position with light off it want spark so it runs with the key switch turned to lights on .but it still boggs what the hell ! I have been a auto master tech for 22 years and worked on just about everything just seeing if anyone would have any clues on these dam Artic cats ! Thanks
  15. My 1987 Trail boss will start with choke on, and then the choke must immediately be taken off to get the engine to run for 5 seconds only. If the choke is reapplyed when the engine is shutting down after burning its 5 second gulp of fuel from the choke, it will run for another 5 seconds and so on. I have removed and cleaned the carb twice without finding a problem or improving the problem. Each time I remove the carb, the bowl is full of fuel. Compression is 95 psi. It is only running on the fuel provided by continually applying the choke!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I own a 1998 Honda 300ex The last two times I rode, probably for about an hour,I shut it off for ten or fifteen minutes and when I went to ride again it backfires and then stalls out. Also the motor seems incredibly hot. Then if I let it sit for a long time it starts and runs fine. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this and what will fix it? Thanks a lot!
  17. We have a 2000 Suzuki LTF 250 that we are having an issue with and a re looking to you members for ideas/help. This machine starts and runs great but after awhile when it gets hot (not overheated) but after 10 minutes or so it starts to bog down, loose power, miss etc. If I slow down too much it will stall and not restart until after it cools off again. This problem started happening AFTER we replaced the entire carburetor for a totally unrelated issue, so prior to that, it ran perfect. Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed. Thanks in advance. Jeff
  18. ok so its hard to start but will sit there n idle when u hit the gas response fine but it randomly turns off like u turn key off happens alot when u let off gas n starts to idle again the plug sparks like 5 times n then misses a few time then hits 5 or 6 times then misses few times
  19. 21. :no:Hi new member here with a question. I have a 1998 Wolverine with the following modifications. 1. bored .030 over 2. new valves 3. hot cams stage 1 4. wiseco piston 5. white bros air filter 6. modified air box lid 7. dyno jet kit stage 1 8. warn 424 9. full DG exhaust When I got this quad the only thing not installed was the dyno jet kit, the previous owner told me I would have to rejet. Before I rejetted it the bike was running lean, the exhaust head pipe would glow orange within 5 minutes of idling, it would backfire through the carb and sputter off idle, 1/2 throttle and above it was fine. I bought the jet kit and followed the instructions, for my location I was to use a 160 main jet, stock jet was 140. After the install the quad fired right up and idled good. Throttle response was a noticible difference and I did not have any sputtering, however, the pipe still gets extremely hot! I pulled the plug and it was white indicating a lean condition still, also it pops through the carb only when I let off the throttle. I contacted DynoJet and explained everything above, they wrote back and suggested that I start with the modified air box lid since the jet kit I purchased was for a stock air box. I haven't removed the small round air filters that were put on the air box cover yet, but was wondering if this doensn't solve my lean condition what else is there to check, I checked for air leaks around the carb boot, and base gaskets and they were fine.
  22. Ok so I bought the 05 brute force and after putting about 60miles on it I have some concerns. The engine seems to run REALLY HOT, like almost burnning my legs through my jeans hot but no warning light comes on and it doesnt seem to "act" hot is this normal, does it have any saftey feature to prevent over heating or heat damage? It also seems to have a slight miss, or hesitation? When you slightly crack the throttle open and hold it at a steady RPM to give it a slightly higher idle it will run smooth for a couple seconds then miss and sometimes backfires. It also seems to sometimes have a hesitation if you jump on the throttle, what could cause this? Also a couple times when shifting from reverse to high it sounded like it got hung up in between and there was a slight squeal as if maybe the belt was slipping and there was also a slight burning plastic of rubber smell. The belt IS new and it doesnt feel as if it is slipping when accelerating and the belt light hasnt come on. Anyone have any suggestions? It does seem to run really well and HARD accept for the slight hesitation or cough and the occasional backfire, I ran it up to 69MPH with both me and a buddy of mine on it, combined weight of almost 500lbs
  23. Well me, and dad went down to are cousin's place in Sedgewickville. It's about 30-40miles from Cape Girardeau MO. He started this event about 6 years ago. It all started as 5 guys useing beat up trucks in this pond. Now the place is huge , and its a huge event all around there. We get people from out of state just want to trash their trucks, UTV's, or ATV's. We left are house around 6am, and got there about 8am. We was the first people there. So he drove us around telling us what they added, and took out this year. They change it everyyear. This year they added a rock crawling spot, and 3 more mud pits. So about 11am to noon people started to come in with trucks on trailer's, and all that. We was still getting people coming in at 5pm. It cost $5 each to get in but dad, and me free, and got staff shirt's. . But we ran that ATV all day in the mud. We had to wash the raditior out twice because it overhated. There was so much mud in there the raditior fan couldnt turn, and was smoking like a . It looked like you was doing a 15 min burnout on in a car on paved roads in 20 secs. . But overall it rocked. We was also last people to leave also. We didnt leave till like 11pm. The connection out there was so bad. everyone had 1 bar of connection. Lucky I knew a place to get 3 bars They counted 112 trucks, 5 utv's, and 35 atv's that day. All these pictures I took around noon. Besides the picture of next to my dad's truck AFTER the 2nd wash on it, and it was only 4pm. . This was the first truck of the day to hit the mud, and first to get stuck my dad's 2nd cousin's truck. *Allen's toy 2* dont ask what happen to the first truck:laugh: I forgot the guy on the tractor going to pull him out. But my dad does... . Well they are started to fill up at 11-ish am. . Some trucks that I don't know . Some more trucks I dont know. But do know who's driving the red tractor lol. . Starting to get better . The white S10 was Johney (are cousin) that runs the place. All day he was driving around checking up on all the team's/group's, and that.
