  1. My 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker will not start. I have narrowed it down to no spark. I replaced the coil and still nothing. When I was putting the old spark plug boot back on there were 4 pieces that came out when I unscrewed it. A very small flat disk, a small spring, a white cylinder and the gold grabber. I wasn't sure the order of these and don't know if it makes a big deal. I put them back in first the small spring, then the tiny disk. which came out in two pieces one almost the whole disk and just a chip. I put the big piece in and left out the chip. The white cylinder was next and the gold grabber screwed in. Is it the boot or a problem above the coil. Please help. I don't think it is the plug either. The one in the quad isn't brand new but it isn't an antique and I tried the back up plug too.
  2. Hey guys. Starting a Grizzly Tracker Video Thread. [ame] [/ame]
  3. Title says it all. When I researched part it shows it does not exist anymore, discontinued. What can I do to stop the leak? Is there somewhere else I should be looking for part? The leak is coming from where shifter goes through seal, not around outside of seal between case and seal. Thanks.
  4. I am looking for the service manual LIT-11616-BT-25. I know where I can buy one. I am more interested in a shared electronic version, or just some parts of the electrical section. I have a no spark situation and am trying to trouble shoot myself.
  5. I have a 2000 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250cc. I tried to get my machine running after storing it for the winter and there was no spark. After running through the electrical tests in the service manual it led me to the stator. I am getting a reasonable resistance for the source coil (320 ohms) but a bad reading for the Pick up coil (13000 Mohms). does anyone have any experience with just replacing the pickup coil. I saw them available on ricky stator. If anyone could provide me with some insight as to doing so that would be great.
  6. New to atvs and just purchased a 2002 Yami Bear Tracker 250. Had a few minor issues but got it at a fair price of $1000. Bought a service manual over the weekend. It has a torn black cv boot. I have ordered one but was wondering how difficult it will be to replace and If anyone has any personal experience with this one. Thanks.
  7. I have a 2002 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250, and the starter motor doesn't work. It never had any trouble starting last Fall, but unfortunately the machine had to spend the Winter outside (removed the battery though & left it on a battery tender). I put the battery back in a few days ago, but there's no response from the starter. The engine will start fine with the pull rope. I just replaced the starter relay (complete with fresh fuses), and the battery has a full charge, but the sucker still won't start--it doesn't even click. The green neutral light is lit, and the headlight comes on (but doesn't go dim when the starter button is pressed, like a bad starter or solenoid might cause). The engine kill/run switch works fine (after I manually start the engine). I've re-seated all the wiring connectors I can find, that appear to be associated with ignition. Not really sure where to go from here, it's driving me crazy. It acts like a bad switch (starter button), but I pulled the switch and it looked ok (contacts were not burned, dirty or corroded). I've pulled off the rear rack and fenders, so everything is exposed now. Also, there's a good size wiring harness that leads into the case behind the pull starter (it's attached to two multi-pin connectors at the other end, under the seat)--I assume that's where the starter and solenoid are? If so, do I remove the pull starter to get at the starter motor? One other thing--and I don't know if it's relevant--when I very first tried to pull start the machine, there was no resistance on the rope whatsoever (just rewind spring resistance from the rope pulley), I pulled a few more times, again without resistance. So I put the machine in gear, rocked it back and forth a few times and I was then able to pull start it. But again, the thing sat out all winter, so who knows... Can anyone offer any insight...please?
  8. 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker..I bought it used but was very well taken care of, low hours and owned by an older fellow who just used it to ride around on his property occasionally. It was running great and all of a sudden began to sputter and backfire. It would start first time but only idle, could not open the throttle at all without dying. I cleaned the carb several times, put a kit in the carb. I checked for leaks in the intake and exhaust. Then I replaced the ignition coil but same situation. I purchased a new stator assembly and installed it, then had no fire at all. I put the old stator back in the bike and it started up but had the same problem I started with. I read in some blog where a person had installed a new stator and had to reverse the two wires on the pickup coil. I removed the pickup coil from the new stator and reversed the wires and it fired up and ran pretty good for awhile, didnt have the jump that it used to and would occasionally backfire and sputter but just occasionally. I had purchased a spark tester from an auto shop, which is a light that goes between the spark plug and the plug wire from the coil. I have noticed that when the bike is not taking throttle that the light on the tester will dim when I open the throttle and is described by the tester instructions to be something faulty in the ignition. I noticed that when the bike would die, while using the tester, that the light would still glow after the engine had died for 10 to 15 seconds. I was riding it yesterday and it would sputter on occasion, then started backfiring and dyed. The engine was not running, but the ignition switch was still on, I reached down to make sure I had a good connection with the spark plug and the plug wire and it shocked the fool out of me. Could a bad CDI module do this? I had installed the old ignition coil back on the bike because the aftermarket one I had bought looked much cheaper, so I thought it may have been breaking down, but unless I have ended up with two bad ignition coils, there must be another problem....any ideas?
  9. the machine runs fine at idle but touch the gas and it dies, I cleaned the carb. and rebuild it but it does the same thing. any one no what the problem might be.
  10. Owned this atv since new. I was 13 or so when we got this bike so it has had a rough life with no major work done. It smokes like crazy (blue) and has a bit of a rattle to it at idle. I am thinking this winter is the time to tear it apart and see whats wrong. Thinking minimum, I'll need a jug and piston set. Wondering what most people run into with these. I always thought it was a 98 but must be a 99 from the pictures I see of other ones and parts available. Will check vin soon. My questions are - - best place for engine parts - upgrade options - interchangeability also the tires are worn and the rims are all slightly bent on the edges, so wondering what other atvs that wheels/tires will fit mine If this has been covered please send a link.
  11. i am having problems with my 250 bear tracker. I recently rebuilt the top end and it ran fine for a while. now it will start hard and run but will not run at full throttle. when it reaches mid to high rpms it shuts off and when it comes back down to lower rpms it starts again. I put a new ricks cdi box on it but the new box would not send a spark to the plug. I put the old cdi back on and it started again. I exchanged the ricks box for a new one and got the same results, no spark. put the old one back on and it runs again. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Norm
  12. I need help with the torque specs on the swing arm pivot pins for a 99 yamaha bear tracker. Thanks!
  13. Hey folks, On my quad (250cc yamaha 4 stroke motor). It's actually a Jainshe Puma 250, but it's just a renamed beartracker. It seams like the spark is a little weak. Starts up and runs fine in warm weather when I don't need the choke, but as soon as you choke it, it has to start the first crank or it won't start without a bunch of sweat that ends up usually with a shot of ether. As soon as it starts and warms up, no problems until it sets overnight or several hours. When I pull the plug and crank it, it has a blue spark, but not the tuff guy look that you see on a car or lawnmower. The plug is gapped IAW the book (forget what it is at the moment). Could the coil be bad, or bad connections somewhere? Any ideas? Thanks, Dave
