bought this atv back in 2001 and in the lst few years it has only had a couple weeks of use per year.. the main reason is it has got cold blooded and wont start good.. have had 2 different qualified people rebuild carb to try and solve starting issues and it still isnt right.. according to the info i have found out here and other areas it has the x version carb in it which is no longer available,, i am looking to possibly replace the carb with something but dont know who made the original and do not know the model of a comparable carb,, the valves have been checked and it doesnt have alot hours on it.. the best way to start this thing is to put 2 fingers over the the top breather tub if you can get your hand in there and try to get it on the sweet spot with choke and start button or throttle lever.. so if any of you have some input on this head ache i am all ears thanks for your responses.. also the choke doesnt seem to do alot for it.. in the past i have had to runt he choke part open or closed to get it to run regular.. also have had it back fire big time on a couple early mourning runs tot he tree stand.. which is just what the doctor didnt order:)

ok, so I have a decent knowledge of quads and small engines as I worked with them all summer in Oklahoma. However I am stumped on what to do right now. I received a four-wheeler from a buddy who asked if I could clean his carb as he thought the float was stuck. So I did. when I put it back on it worked pretty good. Im pretty sure the starter is bad so I have to pull start it but I did pull start it and it fired up first pull and ran pretty good. however now it will not idle at all soooo im thinking jets? also it dies quickly unless I put my hand over the air intake and "choke" it and it will rev then. ive been readin about a vaccum valve or something? is that the problem? alllso my solenoid clicks and ive light tested it and I believe it is good but starter doesn't even think about working soooo bad starter? I just don't wanna waste a bunch of money buyin stuff and that not being whats wrong with it. Any suggestions will help me out, thanks so much for your time guys.

I have an 07 Sportsman efi with about 250 miles on it. It has not started for a couple months. When I turn the key the display doesnt light up. I can hear the fuel pump and a tick-tick-tick noice for several seconds. When I turn the key...nothing. I also cannot pull start it. I have replaced the solenoid charged the battery, and checked all connections. Any thoughts for me?

Hey all, I got a problem with the Winch on our quad. We own a Polaris 500 Sportsman (2007, I believe), and it has a winch on it (Not sure of the brand, looks no-name) we used the winch last year to put a plowblade on the front of our quad for our driveway. The only thing the winch did was pull that plowblade up and down, we didn't even have a chance to pull any stuck quads with it. So this year I hook up the plow blade, and use the rocker switch to let out a couple feet of winch cable so I can connect it to the plowblade. I stick the cable on the plowblade, and when I go to pull the cable back in, the motor just makes a sound, like a mix between and electric motor and a grinding noise. So, I flip to free-spool on the winch and let a few feet out, just in case the cable was tangled. I flip the switch off of free-spool, but it still will not take the line in or out. So, my dad called the dealership that sold it to us, and the dealership said to get a new contactor, which we did. My dad also got a new winch. We installed the new contactor, and the new winch, and when we test it out the winch makes the same bloomin' noise! So now we are stumped. We need the winch working so we can clear our driveway of snow, but even with a new contactor, and a new winch it still refuses to work. Any ideas?

I have a kfx450r which keeps frying batteries. I have replaced the battery 3 times already and they will work for 2-3 hours then the next day i go to use the atv i get a FAST Ckick noise in the nose of the atv. Seems like might be a shorted Voltage Regulator or a bad Stator..? Is there an test I can do or does anyone have an electronic manual to trouble shoot this.? This Quad only has like 20 hours on it max....Strangestuff ATV has ProCircuit Exhaust, Aftermarket Computer.
