  1. I'm working on my brothers' 2002 Suzuki Vinson 500 . It sat for a few years before I got into it. I'm concentrating on the carb - I replaced orings, needle, etc. and soaked jets, bowl and anything that I could get off the carb that the solution wouldn't eat. I also removed the tank and flushed it with hot water - it's clean. The gas cap innards rusted away and the tank had a lot of rust and water in it before I cleaned it. I replaced the gas cap and installed a new fuel valve because the screens were broken in the old one. The bike will run but spits and sputters and backfires. If you "open it up" it falls on its face and stalls - but starts right up. It may still be a "clean carb parts issue" . My problem is that the parts list doesn't identify the parts to a degree that I understand. If you said" look at the pilot jet", I'm not sure which jet that would be....See what I mean? It'll run very good if I remove the air filter and cover the opening with my hand and part my fingers a little for the air to get in. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jim
  2. Hi, does anyone know where to find the timing marks on the camshaft and how to orient them? I found the line on the crank and lined it up with the arrow on the case, but the only marks I can see on the cam are on the very end where the black plastic cap is. Are these the timing marks and if so how do you line them up?
  3. I have a 2007 Suzuki Vinson 500, Semi-Auto, 4X4. I was riding it last winter in a couple inches of snow and a little ice. It ran perfect for a few hours and then starting a slight backfire for about 15 minutes I noticed the over heating light was on so I got ready to shut it off and before I could it shut off by itself. I let it cool down for about 3 hours then i went to restart it I got nothing, the display screen was completely blank and only the back light was on. I then checked the fuses and noticed the ignition fuse was blown I believe it was a 10 or 15 amp fuse so I replaced it then started it up it ran for about 5 minutes then cut off and blew the fuse again. I tried several times throughout the day giving it about an hour in between each start. After about 5 trys i put a 30 amp fuse in and still did the same thing. I let it sit for a couple days to dry everything out and tried again same thing blew the ignition fuse after about 5 minutes. So I then took apart all the electrical connections cleaned them and dried them and then once again tried and blew the ignition fuse. I do not know what could be causing this and havent been able to find any others with this issue. If anyone could be of any help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Donald Roberts
  4. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on removing and installing swing arm bearings on my 05 vinson 500. I have not done this before and looking for a little help. Thank you in advance. By the way I am new to the site.
  5. Ok everyone, I've been rebuilding the top end of my vinson 500 and here is my problem. After replacing all the gaskets and getting my timing set I was all set to place the head on when I realized I had left one of the two small sleeves that position the cylinder head on the base. To go back and put it in would require another complete tear down. This is one of those round cylindrical tubes that the jug sits on. All bolts are in along with Indian head gasket shellac on both sides of the gasket, my question is what might it hurt if I don't put it back in? Honestly I can't see where it will matter and setting the timing on this machine is a real bi***. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I want to upgrade, not sure what size tires will fit and do I need wheel spacers and lift kit? What performance mods do I need to do for the larger tires or don't need to ? Like the Maxxis Vipr tires. Maxxis Vipr front 27x9R-14 Maxxis Vipr Rear 27x11R-14 What size wheel will work? offset? Stock 25x10-12 Rears and 25x8-12 Fronts Stick with 12 inch wheels and get taller tires? Thanks,

  8. it all started with the the negative terminal buzzing when i try to start it. in attempting to fix that now when i turn my lights on, on the four wheeler all power is shut off. will still pull start but would like to have all issues resolved. any ideas?
  9. I am having problems with my 2002 suzuki vinson 500 the battery will not hold charge i can charge it and start it and the voltage starts droping the display flickers and when i rev it it backfires can someone give me some ideas what might be wrong with it
  10. I just bought this quad having an issue with the valve for the fuel. When I got the quad I could not turn the valve at all. I take it apart when it's turned to the on position or reserve I get no fuel The only way I can get you a lot of it is the vacuum or remove the spring on the diaphragm. If I remove the spring fuel flows freely matter what the setting is. Can this be rebuilt or is put together wrong
  11. I have a Suzuki ive been working on. my only one problem I have left is that when I first got it I could get it to 45 quickly and easily now I can only get it to about 16 very slowly. Suggestions????? THANK YOU!!!!
  12. ok, so I have a decent knowledge of quads and small engines as I worked with them all summer in Oklahoma. However I am stumped on what to do right now. I received a four-wheeler from a buddy who asked if I could clean his carb as he thought the float was stuck. So I did. when I put it back on it worked pretty good. Im pretty sure the starter is bad so I have to pull start it but I did pull start it and it fired up first pull and ran pretty good. however now it will not idle at all soooo im thinking jets? also it dies quickly unless I put my hand over the air intake and "choke" it and it will rev then. ive been readin about a vaccum valve or something? is that the problem? alllso my solenoid clicks and ive light tested it and I believe it is good but starter doesn't even think about working soooo bad starter? I just don't wanna waste a bunch of money buyin stuff and that not being whats wrong with it. Any suggestions will help me out, thanks so much for your time guys.
  13. Good evening from New Zealand I own a 2003 LTF500F and am trying to install a new clutch kit but the are two large nuts in my way and I can not get them off. The manual says to unlock them but I cannot see any form of locking mechanism. Can anyone help? Cheers
  14. I recently acquired this quad . Runs great but it will not shift into park. Don't want to tear into the rear differential without a general idea of what to look for. Are there any suggestions?

  16. ive read a couple forems about this but on diffrent machines dose the inner boot have to be remover to replace outter boot or can i just change outter boot also once ive removed boot how do i get the joint apart?
  17. Help me please! I have a Kawasaki Vinson 500. It's a 2005 model. My issue is that oil is getting into the air filter. It will run, but only has about 1/2 the horsepower it used to have. I'd love to be able to fix this problem, but I don't know where to start. Can anyone help? Thanks

  19. i have a 2007 suzuki vinson 500 4x4, runs great everything is fine and then one day out of the blue the machine will not shift into park. there is no apparent damage to any parts or linkage. any ideas?
  20. Just got the quad out, only ran few times this winter, ran rough and air box had an inch of fuel at the bottom. Drained it and ran with box off and gas was coming out of air intake into box. Any suggestions?
  21. HeyI am working on a friends 2004 Suzuki 500 vinson. It would not run so I took the carb apart and clenaned passages and jets and soaked carb overnight. Put machine back together and it started right up and ran great for 1/2 hr then it will sputter and stall. Wait a few hrs and the same thing happens. I took the spark plug cap off cut a 1/4 inch off and re installed the cap. It has a new spark plug in the machine. I cleaned a screen in the fuel line also. It seems like the coil heating up and shorting out or not enough fuel getting to the carb although draining the carb there is plenty of fuel. Any ideas and thanks in advance.
  22. I am working on a vinson for a friend and i cant figure it out. I am getting spark. Carb has been cleaned. I soaked it for about 3 hours, rinsed, blew out passages, and re assembled. The bowl gasket could stand to be replaced but i didnt have parts at the time. I did look good enough to make a good seal though. Also, the air filter is removed. I am waiting on a new one to come in. So, when i first got the 4wheeler from him, he said it wouldnt run. i charged the battery, put some fresh gas in it and cranked it up. Next day i put a little seafoam in the tank, removed the air filter, and it wont crank. i held my hand over the intake with my fingers split to create a little suction and it still wont do anything. i've sprayed starter fluid into the intake, wont bust off. i cleaned the carb, still wont start. i'm thinking the motor is not getting gas. also, i should add that the petcock is in the "PRI" position. Reason being is that when i disconnected the gas lines from the tank the only position that gas would run out is in the "PRI" position. when it is in the "on" or "res" position no gas runs out of the tank. Also, when i re installed the carb i put the petcock in the PRI position for about 1 minute to let the bowl fill up and i then removed the drain screw in the bowl to see if the bowl had fuel in it. It did not. No gas drained out. I checked the lines, they are clear. also, i'm used to carbs with main butterfly and a choke butterfly. this carb has a main butterfly and some type of thing that slides up and down. what is that? how does it work? is it temp controlled? ideas? thanks for any help!
  23. Everything was great and just start loosing power as I accelarate and them start the pop noise from the muffler like firecracks Starts ok but just goes very slow and loose power bad and pops,,,,,what is wrong ? any ideas? ty for any help
  24. I need some help. I sunk my quad a few months ago. Meaning that water got inot my carb. So I chainged the oil several times until it became clean. Took the carb off and cleaned it. I ran it a few times and noticed it was running a little rich. What i mean is very high rpms once the quad got warmed up. I also noticed that the oil had gotten more liquid in it then when i originally filled it up. What i found out was that my carb was over flowing w fuel. It was draining out of carb into airfilter box. noticed there was a crack in hose going to airfilter and gas was coming out sitting on top of crank case seeping into it filling my oil up w gas. I think I solved the problem w gas getting into case by fixing the hose. But now for some reason the carb seems to be still getting flooded w gas. I bought carb rebuild kit and changed the jets that come from the bowl where the float is and the needle like thing that hangs onto the float and stops fuel from coming in so I thought. I got a friend of mine over who knows carbs better then I do and seemed puzzled as well. we concluded that there might be some oil mixed in w the gas that was over flowing in carb. I can get quad to fire and run for a short while until it gets flooded. But while its running you can only give it bout half throttle then it just dies. Any help or suggestions would be great.

My brother wrecked my 07 vinson 500 yesterday tore up the front suspension pretty good, rim cracked tire slashed, tie rod bent into a u shape, and the front suspension pushed back about 2-3 inches towards the back of the atv. Im trying to find parts cheap as possible does anybody know if parts off a 02 vinson 500 will fit my 07? its the front right that has the damage, i found on ebay the front upper and lower arms with bearing for $60 if they will fit mine it would be great... also does anybody know where i can find a possible used rim and tire and tie rod, everything i find is super expensive, i searched ebay they only have like racing tie rods
