About Me

My Garage

  1. My wolverine has a new carb kit, new battery cranks over and over take it to the point of killing the battery to start sometime.... but it I give a tug on the start rope while I'm cranking it with the starter it fires right up.... any advice?
  2. [ame] [/ame] only when u pull back in the clutch does it make this noise and wanna take off
  3. New guy here looking for some ideas so I can pull a small garden trailer and small cargo and tools around my place. Pictures or ideas appreciated, also planning to mount a blade for snow this winter, thanks!
  4. Took my wolvy for her first trail ride past weekend. Got home and cleaned all the mud and dirt off. Went to take a spin around the neighborhood and started having issues. When you are about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle the RPMs will sudden spike way up with little difference in power to the machine. Once you shift to the next gear it will increase power/rpm consistently then same thing happens and you get a sudden RPM spike. It also seems to recreate the problem if you are low in the gear and try to punch it...High rpm with no power increase. If you shift gears and gradually increase throttle she will increase power and RPMs consistently but if you shift and are more than 1/2 throttle it will increase power and RPMs fine until you get about 1/2 to 3/4 way through the gear then you get the same RPM spike... Hope I am explaining this clearly. My truck did a similar thing once and it turned out to be a whole new tranny...hope this is a different issue. Thanks for your help guys and gals.
  5. Just bought this machine and really need a service manual. Had the rear end go out after owning it one afternoon. Thanks for your help guys. 1997 Yamaha Wolverine 350 4x4
  6. Hey Guys my brother has a 2007 Wolverine that has a charging problem I really don't know what all he has done to it to try to fix it, but I do know that the guy he got it from had had the charging system gone through about 2 years ago. I runs like a spotted butt ape and everything works great on it, 4 wheel drive and all but if you use the lights you have to charge the battery up before it will crank again. He uses it for going to his tree stand and used a head light all last hunting season to drive before daylight and after dark which ain't bad because we are so far back in the woods we don't see a lot of traffic if any we have communication with each other so I really ain't got a problem there. But back to the machine if anybody has any I ideas about where we might start looking let me know. I just don't know what or where to start. Thank Guys hope to hear from ya'll soon. Confused:
  7. My 2000 wolverine runs fine on the flats but up hills(nothing monstrous)it has NO power even with momentum. Always end up in first crawling up.I pulled carb took to shop and had it rebuilt and set to factory specs, new clutch, tune up. There are no aftermarket parts everything is still stock.it's driving me crazy at this point not knowing what to do.besides taking it back and forth and still not right.
  8. Hello I just recently ordered a stage 1 hot cam for my 01 wolverine 4x4. I was wondering how Iwould do the timing on it. Do I time it the same way as the factory cam are do I have to change the timing sprocket. Did not come with any instructions and I do t want to mess the head up. I have already put a big bear 400 crank and rod in it with the 400 big bear jug to make it a stroker motor. Its now bored 60 over and I just put the wiesco piston in. Just got the wolverine head out the shop from being ported and polished now trying to get the can put in and timed. These are the things done to it... The 400,stroker motor, bored 60 over, ported and polished head, wiesco piston, stage 1 hot cam, jetted, hmf exhaust, 2wd 4wd slecteable, 50 percent gear reduction, clutch kit,4 inch lift, 1 inch wheel spacers, 27 inch mud light xtr on 14 inch sti rims, snorkled. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Reed Soon as I get it back together I will have pics and videos of it.
  9. New aftermarket CDI that has been tested for sale! Had I been to this site first, would not have gotten wrong part! My loss is you gain! It is on ebay starting at 99 cents! eBay item number: 261580659437 Happy Riding!!
  10. 1995 350 Yamaha Wolverine 4x4. Are the dif gear splines harder material than the axle splines? If so can I replace just the axle itself? Also what other years and/or models interchange?
  11. hi new to the forum,i recently just bought a 99 wolverine 350,the quad is in excellent shape for its age with the original tires still with good tread, the previous owner experienced the same issue i am now,he put a new coil on it about a year ago,i rode the quad all day thursday with no problems, shut it on and off multiple times but i went to start it today and it wont fire,it turns over but doesnt have spark, anybody experience a problem like this?
  12. I have a 2000 wolverine 350 that the woodruff key sheared on. In turn it banged up the woodruff key keyway. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the crank? I would have to replace the cdi rotor because it scraped up the inside of it. I just don't want to waste money on this four wheeler if it isn't going to be a permanent fix.
  13. I have a 2001 wolverine just replaced woodruff key because it sheared off. Now i hear a knocking, clunking sound at lower rpms. Haven't driven it in quite a while so I'm not sure if this was a normal sound before. It seems to drive and perform fine. It has me stumped.
  14. Hi all just been looking to upgrade my exhaust pipe and it seems I am very limited as to what there is that is a direct fit onto a 2006 wolverine. My question is will the exhaust slip on pipes for the 400/450 kodiak and 450 grizzly bolt up directly? Have it narrowed down to a big gun evo or a mbr 6000 from a local dealer but they are all listed for the kodiak and grizzly not the wolverine. Looks as though a big gun may be what I want for performance and sound but the price is $445 compared to the $235 Mbr. Does anyone have any input on this subject?
  15. Good day folks, I just got done installing my winch on my Wolvy and thought I would snap a few pics of the install. First thing I did was get all my parts before I even began the project. Since I really disliked the look of the factory bumper color I repainted the bumper and grab bar black. Much to my dismay the paint didn't last very long trail riding and hauling it around so I decided I would get them powder coated. DSC05352 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05351 by binderpilot, on Flickr They turned out awesome and were definately worth the money to get done. Well here are all the pieces I began with: I purchased the Warn winch mount after doing some research and decided this would work the best for my application as I like the fact that it is not only bolted to the bumper but you have to bolt to the frame as well. DSC05344 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05347 by binderpilot, on Flickr It is a very nice kit that comes with all the hardware and easy to understand instructions. I chose to purchase a 3000lb winch made by Champion, model #1361. I know it is not a top quality winch such as Warn however for my needs this would be sufficient. I really loved the price, $120 from Costco. It came with everything I would need as well as a wireless controller that will come in handy for spooling in the winch cable. DSC05357 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05358 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05359 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05360 by binderpilot, on Flickr The solenoid that came with the winch is heavy duty and marked for easy trouble free installation. DSC05361 by binderpilot, on Flickr I began by following the instructions with the mount and I bolted the winch to the mounting plate. I originally mounted the winch on the mounting plate that came with the winch however when I test fit it on my bumper there wasn't enough clearance. I had to remove that plate and mount the winch directly to the Warn mounting bracket. I really wanted to have the winch lead rollers closer to the winch however it wasn't going to work with this application. DSC05362 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then reinstalled the bumper to the machine. Here is a shot to show you how the U clamps hold it in place. DSC05374 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then ran the 2 power wires from the Winch along the frame and chose to mount the solenoid in the dry area under the seat. DSC05366 by binderpilot, on Flickr With the easy color coating of the connections that Champion provided it was a snap to do the instal. I then mounted the rocker switch on the handlebars. This was another reason I chose this winch, I love the compact no frills design of the rocker switch. It is almost an identical match to the Warn rocker switch. DSC05367 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then had to figure out where I could mount the antenna for the wireless fob. Initially I would have liked to mount it on the airdam in front of the radiator right behind the grille. Unfortunately the wire harness that came with it was too short to reach to where I mounted the solenoid so I decided I would mount it on the left side of the air box by using some zip ties as to not drill any holes. DSC05365 by binderpilot, on Flickr I really love my synthetic cable I put on my RZR so I decided this would be the perfect time to install one on this winch as it hasn't been marred by any cable. Here is a shot with the rope as well as the wireless Fob. DSC05368 by binderpilot, on Flickr This particular rope comes with a brass end on it that I was able to bolt right onto the drum via a bolt that looks to be specifically for something along this line. DSC05370 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then proceeded to spool the rope. It sure was handy having the fob for this task as I am not sure how I could have gotten it on properly by using only the handlebar control. DSC05371 by binderpilot, on Flickr (Tip of the day) ensure nylon sleeve is at end of rope connected to drum. DSC05363 by binderpilot, on Flickr I spooled up very nicely and I was super happy with the end result. DSC05373 by binderpilot, on Flickr Upon looking at it some more I decided that a winch lead saver would be kind of nice to have on this. I decided I would make my own and put a "Canadian" spin on it. DSC05375 by binderpilot, on Flickr That's right, I decided to use a hockey puck that the kids left laying on the floor. The price was right and I think it should serve the purpose perfectly. I drilled a 7/16" hole in the center of it then cut it with a hacksaw to slide it over the cable. Had I thought of this before installing everything I would have not had to make that cut I could have just thread the rope through it. If I every have this rope off I will maybe make a new one without a cut? Only time will tell if this is a good idea or not? DSC05376 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05377 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05378 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05382 by binderpilot, on Flickr So there you go if you have any questions on this please feel free to ask. I am really excited to try this out and especially to try my "DIY" home built winch lead absorber.
  16. at the end of last summer, i had re jetted the the carb on my 2001 350 wolverine...i can't remember exactly what the stock size was, maybe a 143 or so?? but i know i put a 147.5 in it...that it..stock air filter, exhaust,etc..anyway, near the end of august and september i had that baby dialed in...once it warmed up, it had great throttle response, more power, and was running like a top...i had some issues with my electric start, but that's for another thread (actually i think there is another thread on here about that problem)..so here comes winter...all winter long it ran like crap, and still is..it wont idle very long before it just stalls out...sometimes when i put it in first gear and try to pull out, it stalls...sometime i can ride it down the road a ways, and if i let off the gas or come to a stop, it stalls....it has a little backfire to it as well..not real loud, but i can hear it inside the carb..now somebody told me that jet size was too big, especially in these colder conditions....somebody told me i had bad gas (water)...thing is i filled it up and have been on that same tank all winter long, becuase i haven't riddden much, mostly due to how it has been runing...i am thinking of selling it and getting something bigger, so i want it to be running like it was last summer...so should i put the stock jet back in ??? should i drain the gas and put new gas in?? or both??
  17. So I was reading and a stock 2003 wolverine 350 should top out at 55 MPH and mine only does 44? What could be dragging it down? Any ideas appreciated. Btw I'm new here so hello everyone! I hope this forum is better than the others that I joined.
  18. I am working on my nephews 1998 wolverine. I am replacing all the bearings and seals in the rear end. I need to know how to determine what shim to put on the rear pinion. According to my shop manual you take the number on the pinion gear and the number on the case and do some math. Problem is there are no numbers on the pinion gear. I measured the old one and it reads .18. According to the parts list the smallest they list is .3. Anyone got any information I would appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of or has a pinion for a 1998 or newer Wolverine that is in good shape and they want to get rid of it let me know what you want. Thanks
  19. first off i have 2 parts bikes a 97 kodiak 400 and 97 wolverine 350 and a running 02 big bear 400......i just replaced my piston, cyl. and head with the one off the kodiak 400 but ripped my carb joint(from carb to head). my question is can i use the wolverine 34mm? carb on my big bear that now has a 33mm. they are 2 totally different carbs...wolverine stock has main 145 and big bear has 110 main forget what the pilots are....im thinking it should work but wanted to be sure. the reason i wanted to use that carb is it has a different style joint and i have the joint and its in good condition. any help would be aprreciated thnx
  20. Im new to your forum and i have searched to the best of my ability and cant find a thread for my problem so im gonna ask. As stated above i have an auto wolverine 350 that i bought for my girls and the left front wheel has play in it. I thought it was the bearings so i had the seals and bearings changed out and it still has play! What could be the problem? Tie rods? Axel or what? Im at a loss and its driving me crazy! Any help/ knowledge would be greatly appreciated
  21. I was just given a 1996 wolverine for Christmas from my father in law, needs a new carb. The cheapest that I can find a new one is $500, looks like it's an oddball carb. Is it possible to use a warrior carb which is a lot less expensive and more available? I found an aftermarket wolverine carb for like $170, anyone had any luck with these? Thanks!
  22. 2006 yamaha wolverine 450 carb cold idle issues it stays running when I have the choke up but when I put it back down to idle it wants to stall out. This machine only has 218 miles had has pretty much been sitting for that long lol. Runs great in the warm but is really rough in the cold. I am going to try to change the gas, new air filter, and spark plugs. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
  23. Ive got a wolverine 350 4x4. The quad sat in my sisters storage building for a year. It would start but not stay running. I brought it home, replaced the spark plug and starter solenoid. now it wont start at all. Anybody have any suggestions as to what i need to look at next?
  24. I'm in need of the torque specs for the rear output shaft pinion nut torque specs. Does anybody have them? As it is a pain in the @#$% to do I only want to do it this one time. Thank you.
  25. Ok, I talked about this I little in another thread but figures I would starty own and not completey hijack Doug's big bear no spark thread, which helped me correct my problem. Ok, if you own a wolverine, then you probably know what a pain in the rear the park brake can be..and some of you, like myself, have searched or through trial and error discovered, if you follow the cables down from the park brake/clutch assembly, under the "hood", you will find a white connector, with a green wire and a black wire (don't quote me on second wire color), so you unplug this connector, wrap some tape around it it whatever, the you take the black wire, disconnect at bullet connector, then the black/white stripe wire, and disconnect at bullet connector, and you plug them into each other, on the harness side, leaving them free to dangle (or tape them up or whatever) on the park brake/clutch side..now u ride without worries that you e brake is causing sputtering, hesitation, backfiring, all kinds of bad stufff.(you may have added backing plate as well)...well, that's exactly what I did..and it worked like a charm, for a while anyway,..then one day my bike starts acting funny., then not so funny..I lost spark..I couldn't crank with start button(still can't)..I spent countless hours checking over every inch of the wiring harness, testing the stator, retesting, new starter solenoid, new ignition coil, new plug, new battery...when all it took for me to get fire again, and be able to start with the pull rope every time, was reverse the "park brake safety"...I had replaced tr clutch perch as well as mine was bent and missing a cable )that wasn't plugged in at the time anyway)..so I reconnected the black wire, reconnected the black white/ wire, and reconnect the white plug with the green and black? Wires...if I reverse the process, no spark, every time...when I put it back "right", spark every time..I can start it by jumping the solenoid or pull start..but no start button..it puzzles me that I ran it like that for so long, no problems..now I can't run it at all , doing the same process lots of wolverine and warrior and other yamaha owners have done..I still can't start with push button ,which is my next adventure..to figure that problem out...just wanted to let people know my experience , there are hundreds of "no spark" threads, so some of you that run into this, and have performed the park brake trick, try reversing .the process..you may find you get spark back..maybe not....could be another problem with my bike that is unique...but if anyone can help me figure the no start with push button (I get no clicks, oil light comes on and that's it) I'm all ears
