  1. Hi everyone! I have a 1986 yamaha moto4 200 that's been sitting for a while! Cleaned the carb, replaced engine oil, put fresh gas in it. Got it running and went for a ride! It was running great just a little backfire once in a while! I barely made it home on the way back and now the bike won't run at all since then! It will start if I give a little bit of throttle but dies instantly as soon as I let go off the throttle! And even if I try to rev it up it'll sound like its not getting enough gas.. it revs up a couple hundred rpm's and backfires through the carb.. it almost sounds as if I was trying to take off from zero in 5th gear! Nothing is seized though! I dissasembled the head and the piston and cylinder are fine! Rebuilt the carb, replaced the ignition source coil.. I don't know what to do anymore.. compression test shows 90 psi Specs are 128 psi but i'm not sure if I trust my compression tester.. any ideas? Thanks!!
  2. Hi, just picked up a MOTO 4 YFM255 and want to replace the rear brake pads. How do I get to the back. Guessing I need to remove the brake disk, question any easy way to do this? Thanks

  4. Hello everyone, I have a new to me 86 Bayou 300 that I just bought last night to get around the property. It wouldn't start when I bought it but it did turn over with starting fluid, PO said the carb neeeded cleaned. I cleaned the carb today but need to get the choke wired up as it was not wired up when purchased. I'm hoping one of you can help me get this choke wired up. Coming from the carb it has 2 wires. 1 is yellow and 1 is black. The PO said I needed to ground one and put the other one on a switch. Should I do it this way or is there another/better way to do it? I'd really appreciate any help I could get!! Thanks in advance!

  6. I am selling my Honda trx 70. It is all original everything, I have owned it since 1988 and it runs excellent and everything works as it should. Trans is good, brakes are good, steering, levers & cables, tires....everything perfect. The only issue with it is that it needs a seat cover since the original one is cracked in a couple places Plastic is scratched up a little but has zero cracks. The decals are all there but some are a little rough. ( It is 28 years old) It's stored indoors and has been for about 20 years. Perfect for small kids or bigger kids. I am 290 lbs and it carries me anywhere and everywhere. surprising power for a 70cc. Starts on the first or second pull (If I remember to turn on the gas) Asking $750 or make me an offer - can email pics if interested. (not sure how to put them on here.   7. Help my Kawasaki bayou 300 1986 model won't start, replaced coil, and cdi valve. does not spark with new spark plug....what next????? It is one owner and we have maintained nor well so I known it has not been mistreated and should be able to repair, I like it better than the new ones for working on the farm, easier to handle for me!!! thanks for any help,
  8. This post is just an FYI. Im fixing up the subject quad. Problems and solutions found so far: 1) The ignition switch would not complete the circuit. Fortunately, you can take this ignition switch apart. I cleaned the corrosion off the contacts and lubricated it with WD40. It works well now. 2) The lights did not work. I took the switch apart and found a broken wire where it solders onto the switch. I also cleaned the switch with WD40. The lights now work. 3) Fuel tank was full of rust. I had cleaned it up a year or two ago, but it was rusted so bad I could hardly get the cap off. I bought a plastic after market tank from Clarke. They are bit expensive, but it fits well and seems to work. 4) Cleaned out carb to rid it of rust. The quad fired right up after 2 or 3 seconds of cranking. Remaining work may include new muffler and piping. Im wondering if I have problems with the alternator too. The front brakes also need work. Beyond that, I think everything is working OK.
  9. Should this quad run without a battery once you get it started? I don't have a battery, but I boosted it to start it. As soon as I disconnect the cables, it dies. I thought these engines would run without a battery so I am wondering what other problems I have? Thank you, Chris
  10. I have a Yamaha bayou 300, I think 1986, ran great till last year when it started to backfire a little. This year had trouble starting it up, changed the plug, and ran some carb cleaner through bust still sputtering? I adjusted the choke as it always had a problem staying running when the chock was open and now seems to be ok, but still sounds like it wants to backfire? Any suggestions???

Hi guys my bayou just stopped going the other day,I put a new plug in but still did not go,then all a sudden it went so I used it for about 30 minutes and it ran perfect.Now it will not start again,I have been trying for the last 2 days.I have checked all the electrics,it has plenty of spark,plenty of fuel,the valve clearances are good.It turns over fine just will not fire.Tomorrow i am goint to check the set up timing(i think thats what is called)If thats not it there is only compression left as I don,t have a tester I put my finger over the plug hole and it popped my finger so there is copmresion there maybe not enough though. steve.
  13. Hello to all, I am new to your site. Need to pick your brains, I recently bought and older quad for some work around the house. It runs alright but it looks like over the years some things have been cobbled up. My main thing is the carburetor, Its not the original mikuni it has some japan thing that has been modified to fit and it has been a pain. I want to put a mikuni back on it, the clymer manual shows the original as a vm22sh mikuni carb. Kinda hard finding one, I was thinking of going that way, then rebuild it. Or can I get another vm22 model and put on it, or will that be more of a problem? I have been seeing them on ebay for about $75 I have noticed the jetting is really different then what they are calling for in the manual. Any help would be appreciated thank you. Once again this is for a 86 yfm 200.
  14. hows it going, my name is Brad and i recently bought a quadsport for 200 dollars i knew there was problems with it when i bought it but my dad and i are stumped at what the problems with it could be having owned multiple 4 wheelers it burns oil and i knew that when i bought it, pure white smoke screen when i go down the trail its quite fun to smoke people out but its really starting to get on my nerves, my dad thinks it could be the rings but i have yet to tear it apart and see i want a second opinion before i waste my time doing it it doesent idle at all, i have to keep on the gas when i start it up (if it even will start up its a pain to start) it almost seems like that the carb is clogged or something, the guy that owned it before me put some shitty supertrapp pipe on it and i think it also might have something to do with it im about to take the torch to it and cut the stupid thing off cause he welded right to the header pipe and run a straight pipe cause ive had no luck on trying to find a stock pipe for it.....the spark plugs come out nasty and carboned up like hell, doesent even idle with the choke on it when i do get to ride it it sounds like its almost backfireing and like its bogging down but it feels like it should be putting out more power than it should dont get me wrong when i get up to the 4th or 5th gear it runs perfectly when i keep on the gas, its fun to ride but id like it to be able to atleast idle cause it sucks when i have to stop and keep reving it any replys/advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
  15. just got my motor back together and its still smoking not as bad as before but smoking pretty good still, the motor had a bad valve and one of the head bolt seals where bad and was dumping oil into cylinder so there's a lot of oil in the tailpipe cause the guy I bought it from ran it around his farm and didn't care about the smoke just bought a new plug when it fouled, could the smoke im seeing just be it burning off what's in the pipe? Bike doesn't smoke to bad when idling just when giving it gas? bike has new rings, new valves, new top end seals, new aftermarket trx carb bout an hour break in idling in my yard, the head shop said one valve seat was in spec but barely could that be the problem? any suggestions are greatly appreciated
  16. So a few of my friends got the idea o find a few Honda 70s to fix and ride the hell out of. So Craigslist to the rescue! Found these 3 bikes. 86 TRX70 85 ATC70 8? ATC70 parts bike So the deal was 3 people 3 bikes. I took the TRX one friend took the 85 ATC other took the parts bike. The next day my friend decided to sell the parts bike to me (but took the front tire) So here where I stand so far The 6 wheel 4x4 70 monster!!! But anyway that's just a joke Pulled the motor chain and rear grab bar Front brakes removed Rear brake cable moved to where front brake was to add a clutch cable one day Front bumper removed So that's where I am right now. Won a fuel tank off eBay last night so once that's here ill be happy. Out bid on a seat today so that's a huge bummer. Unsure of motor right now. I was told the original one has low compression so I don't know of a rebuild or a piranha 150cc swap is the right way to go. But I'll keep everyone posted on that. sometime this week ordering a pullstart cage in hopes to see if it runs as is. Front fenders will be the absolute last thing I buy because they are around 220 new or 400 for front and back off eBay. As for the 70 with the white seat,my friend ordered a new/used stator last night. So let's hope for the best there. I'll try to keep everyone up to date on that project as well right up until the paint and rebuild part because or a little friendly comp we will be doing between the 3 of us that are building bikes. So questions/ comments/ advise welcome. If anyone needs ATC70 parts message me and maybe I can hook you up. Thanks for reading Blue504life
  17. I got a 1986 suzuki 230lts it has been sputtering and spiting when you add a a little throttle so i took apart the crab to look for crap, i found not a speck of dirt. BUT i found that the pilot screw was messing a few parts, the washer and the o-ring. would that cause it to sputter when a little throttle is applied, it almost feels like the breaks are dragging when you give it a little throttle. thanks for any imput!
  18. Hey guys I am new here. I have a big problem I have a 1986 yamaha ymf80 moto4 and the carb is shot. Is there any other carb (raptor 80 ect) that will fit so I don't have to spend $250.00 through yamaha..

So I replaced the rings cause it was smoking real bad,put it all back together, I think I have the timing set right but I'm not sure..I can't find a tru manual online to download either... so my question is how exactly dose the timing need to be set... I set the piston a tdc lined the top cam sprocket line with my make to to (top) mark on the head. also linde the flywheel mark(t) with the make on the case...do I need to line it off of the (f) mark? There are also 2 more marks colse to each other but no markings for them...any help is welcome.thank you..

  22. Ok so I got a great deal on a 230s apperently the motor was rebuilt but the guy didn't know how to put it back together.... Well the top end at least.... So I bought the book for it at the Suzuki dealership..... Now the bike has no airbox and no muffler, open carb and header, here's my problem, It has compression, it has spark, I timed it up twice, each time spinning the motor 360* cause it's a four stroke and I was trying to make sure that it was sparking during compression and not exhaust... Anyway there is fuel on the plug, if I hold the plug to the casing while it's unscrewed it sparks.... But it refuses to catch, the most I get is a backfire out the exhaust... In an act of desperation I towed it with a car while it was in gear to try and get it started.... The headers glowed red hot, but it would die out imeadiatly...... Any replies would be greatly appreciated.... Oh and I also sprayed starting fluid in it to try and make it catch and nothing....
  23. I have a 1986 Yamaha YFM225, Moto-4, 4x2 It devloped a noise in the driveline: Sounds like a clicking and has a slight catching feel. It gets worse if you are on a bind, say turning left or roght or going up hill. No noise going down a smooth road. It sounds like a universal joint going bad on a car. How do I check the U-joints on this model and or replace them? I did drain the differential oil and it is clean, no gold or silver glitter or metal pieces, so I am ruling out the differential. Thank You

  25. I have a Suzuki 230 bored over .30 with a racing cam and am looking for the plastic for a utility instead of the sport. I also have a 150cc two seater go cart with 16 inch clearance and set up for the swamps, 22x12x8 in the back and 19x9x8. It has many extras and is funner for adults but great for kids, top speed 40. Really I want plastic for the sport quad and a rack or trade both for a utility quad over 200...
