About Me

My Garage

  1. I am looking for a manual for a 1988 LT300E Quadrunner does anyone have one I can download. Thanks
  2. About 2 months ago I took drove my big bear from the garage and parked it in the shed, no problems. I started and ran great. Today i tried to start it and it wouldn't fire. i pulled the plug and put it nxt to the cyinder and ther was no spark. I put a screwdriver in place of the plug, in case it was a bad plug, and same thing, nothing. I checked the 30 amp fuse but no idea what to check next, or how to check it. I highly doubt it's the CDI box, or stator, I don't believe they would just die like that. Any suggestions????
  3. Looking for help on wiring up stock wiring harness specifically for a '88 Honda TRX 300 If anyone could drop a link or send me a PM it would be much appreciated
  4. Hi all, my second post here I got an old Yamaha 88 moto 4 and I have a problem with my overflow hose from the carb. When I put the gas switch to ON a big amount of gas is leaking from the overflow...so I start using my quad with the gas switch to RESERVE wich is also leaking but less than in ON position. I dont ride a lot..but in a week I empty my gas tank. Strange. I never clean my carb because Im new to quad world and dont have the service manual...so I need you point of view. Thanks guys!
  5. Hi all, I try to find this manual in the threads but you have a lot of stock here Cannot find this particular manual. I found it for YFM200 but not sure if they are the same. Thanks if you could help me with that. Im new here so if I did something wrong, please tell me.
  6. Ok new to group and new to quads. I picked up a 88 Big Bear for next to nothing but it has issues. The entire high low revers shifter has been removed. All I have is a bar attached to the linkage. I can shift into all three but I would like to replace or get suggestions. I have looked around but there is limited info or pictures on what I would need to buy or where it even mounts. Any pics of what where and how it works would be great. Or direct me to correct thread. Thanks
  7. I have a 1988 Suzuki quadrunner 250 4wd it will run if I pop start it but it will not run if I elec. Start or pull start I repair crab four times I got spark compression is good . When it is running it runs fine but I let the gas go it dies please help thank you
  8. hooked up old headlight first time, everything died. fuses ok. help.
  9. morning all, looking for a little help...i have little and none experience with quads, am fairly handy with diy on my truck and car so im not totally engine illiterate lol...was given an old quad, had to tow start it to load it. took it home, checked the oil, plug, carb, air filter, battery...hhmm...drained and flushed fuel tank, new fuel, spark is good, tried to battery start, wont start, tow start and off i went. warmed the engine, half hr burn, came home, wont idle and died. started off battery with thumb throttle pumping. cool! wont idle died. damn. started again off battery with thumb pumping. back in business? shut it down. checked over machine, lookin good for a free new toy lol...next day wont start...hhmm..found fuel puddle on my garage floor. traced it, carb overflow. easy fix, dirty gas means dirty carb. removed carb painstakingly slow (first time on a 4 stroke carb) and cleaned outside. on to bench, started stripping, fairly simply carb, removed floats, needle valve, jet, inspected, washed thouroughly with brake clean and blew with compressed air to dry. put together. installed. tried to start. wont start. fuel puddle on floor and that brings me here...pls help...where do i go from here?
  10. I have a 1988 kawasaki mojave klf 110b it will start right up and runs fine but when you shift down you have to use your foot and pick it up and then push it down to get it to shift and it does the same thing to shift up it is like there should be a spring on it to pick it up or something please help
  11. I have a 88 quadrunner 250. I can't figure this thing out. It will not start with the key or the pull start I checked the battery its got a good charge on ut no lights will come on and the starter won't even make a clicking sound anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? 12. Our 1988 Yamaha Terra Pro is finally seeing the finish line of becoming our new bush hogging tractor! I've had the terra pro for almost 2 years... we had great intentions, but after removing the fenders, fuel tank, and the carb, we let it sit up. Shame on us! However, the terra pro is cranking today. We cleaned the carb, figured out what goes where and where did that screw go! She smokes like there's no tomorrow, but that's okay! The only issue right now is getting all these lines hooked back up to the carb right! There is 5 lines to hook up to this thing!! And in our moment of drinking and removing parts, we cant remember how they go back on. I've found several diagrams online, but none showing the overall schematics of all the lines! If anyone has a service manual, or any way of helping us figure out what goes where I would really appreciate it!! I can attach pictures later if it'll help!
  13. I bought this bike a few months ago running fine. Rode it once and things have been downhill from there. It started to cough while riding, then backfiring and stalling, eventually leading to not starting at all. The bike was sent to the shop for a carb service, rode it for 10 minutes, and now it is worse than ever. Bought a brand new carb for it, still will not start or run. The spark is intermittent. This video shows the best it has "run" in months: [ame] [/ame]. At my wits end here, and months behind on bush work which is what the quad was bought for. PLEASE HELP!
  14. I'm looking for help w/identifying a plow mounting bracket for my 1988 Big Bear 350. Can't seem to find one that's available/in-stock for these older models. Anyone know if there's much difference between an 88 and say a 1994? Seems like brackets for the 90's and newer models are easier to find.
  15. I am in the process of putting a rear swing arm on an atv, and by the way it looks i have to pull the rear differential off the swing arm to get the spline shaft back into place on the differential that comes off the back of the transfer case.. Anyways i got the brake assembly off the hubs off and the two ring nuts and cant get the axle shaft to slide out of the rear differential, i am using a block of wood and a good size hammer and hitting the axle on the left hand side if you were standing behind the machine... can a guy try a press??? any help would be greatly appreciated...
  16. Hey guys im working on a 1988 yamaha big bear 350 4x4, i am replacing the transfer case becasue its cracked. My question is what kind of oil does it take, and do i fill it up to that plug on the side of the case. also where the transfer case bolts up to the back of the engine there is a cover that has a plug which houses 2 gears, what oil goes in there or does the motor fill them both up??? any info would be appreciated...
  17. Hey quadcrazy im looking into but a suzuki lt250r but the guy said the piston needs to be replaced and he said it wont start. He is sale it for $500 dollars. Ifi do replace the piston do you all think it will run or are there more problems with it you think ? Also i would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me on this website i greatly appreciate it one love
  18. I have a quadrunner 230 (1988) that I just bored and put a new piston/rings in. Bike was running fine except for smoking before rebuild. Cleaned carb, new battery and it fired right up. But, it idles great, but won't take throttle. It acts like it is hitting the rev limiter when giving it throttle. (like they do when the voltage regulator is bad) Replaced the VR, still same problem. Shot fuel straight through carb to make sure that wasn't problem, no difference. Well, to get to the end of it, I have replaced the voltage regulator, the stator, the CDI, the fuse holders (they were kinda dry rotted), the ignition coil, basically everything electric related except the wiring harness itself. I have had 3 other mechanics in here to look at it, and still have not come up with a solution. You can't get the OEM wire harness anymore, but am looking at building a new one, thinking that there is a bad wires (or multiple wires) that is causing the ignition to be fooled because of resistance. Has anyone had an issue like this, or any suggestions? It has driven me nuts, especially since I have had other units just like this one, where either the CDI or usually the voltage regulator has been the solution when they had similar symptoms. Thanks, Anthony
  19. Hello quad crazy im having a problem kick starting my quad. When i first take my quad out of the garage it will start on the first kick then as put it into gear and give it some gas it will cut off. I was wondering if it could be something wrong with the carb or what not . But once its start it runs very good and very fast
  20. Hi, I have an old '88 LT-4WD, and it has been sitting for about 3 years. A few months ago, I re-built it, including cleaning the carb, changing all the oils, re-did alot of the electrical, bled the brakes and cleaned out the master cylinder, replaced the rings, valve seals, oil seal, and gaskets. (among many other things) It ran fine for awhile, but now it has trouble starting. For awhile it started with full throttle and the enricher down, but not even that works now. I have spend many hours trying to start it, and havent had any luck. I replaced the spark plug, (it had good spark, but may not have under compresion) I also took the carb apart again to see if somthing plugged the jets already, but they were fine. I am just baffled. Any idea's would be appreciated. Thanks! Mike
  21. Just picked up a 1988 Suzuki LT4wd for $500.00 off craigslist, I just got done restoring a 1989 Yamaha Big Bear 350, and i saw this quad had the 6 select-able ranges and I fell in love with it. Im fixing the brakes now, moving onto carb soon, Im a machinist and have a good mechanical inclination, but im totally new to ATVs (took me a full week to figure out my lean condition on the big bear wasnt a clogged jet, it was just missing the rest of the intake tube). few questions 1.) i put the quad up on stands and started to pull the brakes apart, came in the garage today to see half my front diff oil on the ground (pinion seal) id like to replace it, and im just wondering if its bearing style pinion, or crush sleeve, and how hard it would be to replace the seal (and bearings if they're shot). Is it built with looser tolerances (backlash and pinion depth etc) or is it like a vehicle diff where you go to get it dead on or your burn up the gears? 2.) I was told fenders from a LT4wd, lt250, king quad etc, will fit (from up too 2001) is this true? My plastics are FUBARd, and i wouldn't mind going to newer style wider fenders (providing the attachment points are mostly the same) 3.) I LOVE the front diff lock feature. I hate that itll only engage in super low. I do like my mud pits and keeping wheelspin up while going in a straight line is ideal for me. i have heard mutterings on the internet that there's ways to modify the shifter assembly so itll engage in ranges other than super low. Again, is this true and or is there a writeup about it? Im sure there will be more questions, but for now this is all i can think of, thanks again!
  22. I just put a carb rebuild kit in my Big Bear 350 and it seemed to start fine. Today I take it hunting and its hard to start. Lots of spark, turns over fine. It fires and stalls, then while trying to start it again it floods. I pull the plug and its soaked. Only way I can start it (cold) is to spray the plug with quick start and reinstall it. When it fires I bring up the Rpms until it warms up, then it's fine. Sometime I have to pull/spray the plug 2-3 times before it will stay running. I need help quickly or it will be a long week. BTW the screw is out 2 1/4 turns
  23. My machine is finally up and running again ,I bought a new Honda cd box and it started right up and runs great ,but it seems to have something else going on ,after running for awhile the left side cover gets so dam hot you can not put your hand on it ,the fan comes on and goes off ,what would make it so hot ,is it something going with the stator ?
  24. :aargh:I have a 1988 350 Warrior that is not running right. It runs okay for about 15 minutes, but once it heats up, it spits and sputters and losses power. The exhaust gets louder when I lose the power. It has an HMF exhaust. I have tried two different carbs and have adjusted them both and I still get the same thing. No matter how I adjust the carb, it doesn't change. The parking brake is disconnected and all wires are out. I have checked the stator and pick-up and source coil, and they are fine. Stator is only 2 months old. Checked valves and they are okay. Have checked the harness and can't find any cut wires. The timing is good. The air filter is clean, and I have also tried running it with the air filter cover off, and there is no change. I have tried taking the exhaust off and there is no change. Sorry for the long story, but I'am trying to list everything I did to help you figure something out. I just don't know where to go from here and am hoping someone can help me with this. Thanks for any help given.
  25. My dad said if I wanted a four wheeler I had to build it. Well it took me over a year to do it but now I am having troubles with the carubretor. My dad and I tried to rebuild it and we took our time doing it but the problems we are have are: we are getting exhaust blow out of the carburetor and exhaust out of the tailpipe it back fires at a high rpm and when we put the air box on the carburetor we have no acceleration. We have stop at a couple dealerships but they don't work on anything as old as my 88 warrior and have no idea. Can anyone help please.
