About Me

My Garage

  1. I have a 1996 King Quad 300 LT-F4WDX ATV I tried to install a carburetor rebuild kit but there were no instructions and I am unable to find them. Anybody know what the "Pilot Screw" is set at? The engine starts but seems to be flooding- very difficult to get the rpms up and engine acts flooded. I set the screw to 3 turns from closed. It is called the "Pilot Screw" on exploded views of the carb. It is a Mikuni BST 31 single carb. Thanks for any help! Bill Roberts
  2. Hi I have a 2005 yamaha 400 big bear. When I run it without the breather cover on it runs good. This is without the air filter. As soon as I put the lid on and snap it down tight I have no middle or high rpm. Any ideas. I've checked the pipes from the air breather and all are clear. No animals nesting in them.
  3. Picked up this 87 Big Bear from my grandfather. It has been sitting for quite a few years, so I am in the middle of rebuilding the carb and doing other maintenance. The quad did not come with an air filter, so while I was at the yamaha dealer a new air filter was pretty cheap. Except it was missing something called the element guide. I guess there is some kind of tube the air filter wraps around and sits in the square cutouts inside the air box. Is there any other manufacturers that make this part? Yamaha wants $60 for the element guide. Worse case scenario I just have to buy it
  4. I was having a bad idle and i found the culprit. I dont but to my eyes i think that needs cleaned. How should i clean it. I read to use dish soap or landuary detergent. I have also read to use a five gallon full of water and soap but or just enough water with soap to submerge the filter. So how should i clean my air filter
  5. Working on friend's Honda Rincon. His front tire doesn't hold air well. I'm going to fill to max bead seat pressure, but i'm wondering about these bolts on the rim. Are these two piece wheels? Can I retorque the bolts?
  6. Now that I have your attention ... ... I decided to go to the Uintah Mountains east of my home for a ride and check out the snow. Where I parked the truck to unload is about 110 miles one way from my home, so I left the house at 0500 ... :coffee: ... and headed out for a Great Day of rid’in !! Stopped for some morning vittles & was on the trail by 0830. :woot: Again, riding early like that puts the sun in a bad position for the camera … and it always seems like I’m riding into it … guess that’s better than riding off into the sunset huh !!?? … WHAT ?? :toetap05c: A lot of the riding here is between 9000 ft and the highest elevation I reached yesterday was 10,500 ft plus … and it’s some steep country. Lots of standing dead pine trees due to a forest fire in the past and then the pine beetles aren’t helping either. But it’s still really gorgeous country. Saw a few mule deer, so that makes it interesting as well. At the river, when it’s wide, looks slow, and you can see the bottom so easy … one never knows just how deep it might be. And riding alone, I didn’t want to end up with a drowned bike, so you’ll see, I was pretty cautious crossing the first time … and that’s some mighty cold water!! Hope you enjoy the video and make sure to watch it in 720p or 1080p. :seeyac: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZmwfbgcwcY]19 Jun 2013 HIgh Mountain Rid'in - YouTube[/ame] ...
  7. Ferrari Air Boxes with high gloss carbon fiber.
  8. Just a simple question, but could i go and measure my air filter, I.D. and find a K/N air filter for my 300 4x2 Bruteforce ?? Seems to me that it would work, provided everything will still match up correctly, and i have enough room inside my airbox. Any thoughts ??
  9. got a 96 Big Bear Project Bike, the air filter doesnt fit tight with the box. Should there be a rubber gasket between the filter asembley and the intake? Would this gasket come with a new filter, can I just buy this gasket. searched all over but cant find that part or a diagram showing it. Have the owners manuel and service manual but neither show it.
  10. I have a stock and very dirty Yamaha foam air filter surrounding the internal canister/carcass (I don't know what those are called, since Yamaha doesn't even bother to name the thing inside their service manual). I purchased a 490 mile used - 2007 Wolverine 450 SE last week and the new filters, oils, chemicals arrived yesterday, from AMSoil & DennisKirk. I am handy enough with tools and 'stuff' to be able to handle routine vehicle maintenance. A service manual is often required, and I'm good to go. However, when shopping for replacement air filtration @ DennisKirk's online location (specifically for my 2007 Wolverine) one of the things which intrigued me was obtaining a K&N precharger. The K&N air filter element itself was $60 which in hindsight might be a good deal. I dunno - I'm a n00b to purchasing gear for an ATV. But it sounded like the precharger might be a decent $26 investment to further filter out microscopic chaff before feeding air to the carb. My only question is...where does something like this precharger fit over? Surely not over the foam filter (I purchased a Uni 2-stage, which I will have to oil up myself). My guess is K&N precharger is to slip over the outside of the perforated canister, which the foam air filter also slides over? It's going to be a very tight fit even there. I've searched the entire forum for any existing threads which might discuss this topic, and found nothing. The Yamaha service manual is barely helpful; they are about as helpful as pc computer instruction booklets I've used for the last 20 years. Is anyone using one of these precharger bags, or is this overkill and I as a n00b just selected & purchased something I don't really need? Wouldn't be the 1st time. Also, what do you folks prefer? The gauzy cotton filters like the K&Ns or the foam filters? Pre-oiled or do it yourself? Thanks
  11. To no avail i have yet to find a K/N type replacement air filter, now as i have said before i love K/N Products,,,,,,,,,wish i had one when i was married to put on my ex-wives mouth........lol But any how, would removing the airbox lid give me a little more power ?????? And i think someone said a different muffler,,,,what should i look for when buying a muffler ???
  12. The quad died on my son the other day. Tracing a fuel drip I found the air filter box filling up with fuel. After removing the air filter there was fuel was draining out the air intake into the box. Had to shut the fuel line to get the draining to stop. SOmething with the carb I guess but what???
  13. I have oil coming out of the front drain in my air intake assembly. What could cause this? Has anyone ever had this problem?
  14. Well picked up a insane performance air box on ebay for $70 got her on today wiring all done. More than I figured several times I was and lmao stupid cylinoid. Somehow it got turned around and was jumping itself but got it figured out and got her all done kinda sorta I have it on and everything inside just gotta clean the inside up a bit. I removed quiet a bit of extra weight off it and still gotta grind off some of the brackets and such im guessing a total of 3 to 5 lbs just by changing boxes. I removed the box for the case breather and installed 2 mini K&N filters give it a dif look all together and pretty nifty if I do say so lol. Decals were on it I need to remove them since I dont have anything of it on my bike lol.

  16. I lowered my tires on my quad at Pismo for better traction, and ever since then, my tires haven't been able to hold the air......Y? It holds them, but has a slow leak.

  18. Air Filter Maintenance Your air filter is the first line of defense against the elements. Keep it clean or spend some green. We show you how.The condition of your air filter directly affects the performance of your ATV. The dirtier the filter, the more it robs horsepower from your motor. Running a dirty filter also greatly increases the risk of sucking dirt and debris into your motor's internals which can cause a number of problems in your fuel-delivery system and greatly increase the wear and tear on your piston rings, cylinder and valves. Once again, this eats away at even more horsepower in the long run. The best practice is to clean your filter often and well. How often? We suggest cleaning your filter after every weekend of riding, and even swapping out a clean filter for every day of riding if the conditions are extremely dusty. If you wait for your filter to look like a dirt clod, it'll be too late. So how do you clean it well? Follow these steps and we'll get your air cleaner well, cleaner.
