  1. Hi Everyone! Recently, I could no longer start my Arctic Cat using the green starter button. Initially, the response was intermittant (sometimes it would start and other times in wouldn't). Finally, I get no response or sound by pressing the green button. I'm trying desperately to trace the wires from the green button but can't seem to follow. I took the button apart and cleaned the contacts but no difference (yet my instruments indicate contacts are OK). I inserted an image to show the wiring colors going into the green switch. I'm still able to start the machine by using a long screwdriver to short the starter. I'm hoping someone can help me find a possible break in the wiring or any other cause. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me! Jerry
  2. What are the recommended tire pressures for hard and light terrain use of my 2008 Artic Cat 400 auto 4X4. also plowing snow on a paved driveway???
  3. I let my ArticCat sit over the winter but before it was put in the garage it was running perfect. In taking it out this year it wouldn't start. I can start it with a charger and it will idle just fine. But it's doing something weird now. Either the display 1)won't display anything or 2) it will just display the analog speedometer but none of the digital stuff or 3) it will display all. So it was acting really sluggish when in HIGH gear and sounded like it was in low gear. So in driving it down the road and it being sluggish, I switched the ignition key to "Lights ON" and the ATV immediately picked up as though it really was in HIGH gear. Switching the ignition back to "ON" was like down shifting into LOW gear. When I came to a stop and switched from LIGHTS on to just ON the ATV completely died. After a 30 minute ride you would think it would start again but I had to jump it again to get it to start. Same issues with the ignition having to be pointed to Lights for it to run decently. Then just as I got back to home base the display showed VOLT. It acts like it's something in the ignition but not sure how that's related to the gears. I put a gas cleaner in the tank since it's been sitting but it really doesn't seem like a bad gas issue that I thought it was at first. I checked the IGN fuse but it seems fine, replaced it with the extra fuse but no joy. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advanced for any help. It's much appreciated.
  4. So i recently acquired an 07 400 auto, paid $1000 and only has 900 miles on it, the thing is in fabulous condition, unfortunately it has had a good bit of work done to it, and everyone loves picking up on an unfinished project. So here is what i've got. It supposedly has a new stator in it (looks like it does), it came with two more, one is worn out, like the tops of the poles are smooth, and the other one looks used, but the flywheel is not harmed. it came with a new cdi box (Procom PE-C-AS/K400-A) not sure if this is compatible or not, but when i plugged it up, i think it may have blown the ign fuse. it came with a new (UP2) voltage regulator. and the spark plug coil is not stock, have the old broken ones, everything works but no spark, it has an new aftermarket left handle switch cluster, also have the old one, and i don't know if it is supposed to have more, but there is only one diod in the fuse box, i have a wiring diagram, as well as all of the manuals, the red green wire At the cdi only has 9 voltes, and the wiring diagram says that it is the "Revers". I live about 30 minutes away from a atv junk yard, so if i can't figure it out, i will just take a day and start swapping stuff untillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll it works, PS. if you had a 00 Polaris 500, and an 07 cat 400, which one would you keep? so far the Polaris is winning, cause i've fixed it, but just curios? here is a question, how many volts should i be getting from the magneto when turning it over, the book says the blue and green wires should have over 5 volts, but doesn't say if thats running or not? Yes I have tried, swapping the wires the stator wires to revers polarity , he bought OEM and China, my stator/magneto tests fine accept for voltage the green and blue wires on the four pronged plug, which are said to be magneto trigger wires? One blue/- green/+, and the book says it should be over 5 volts, but is that when it's running, starting, sitting? I get a slight change in volts when turning it over, like .5 .7 volts? ps. this is just a bunch of my comments from the artic chat forum, so i wouldn't have to retype it all. any info wanted.
  5. I am goin nuts here! I have a 04 400 air cooled 4x4 , I'm a atv, car, truck, mower mechanic for yrs, just sayin. Ok it cranks and kinda fires now and again then after 5 min of cranking and stopping itl start if u touch throttle itl did then u start all over! If u let it warm up sumtimes u can throttle it up other times it just does! Just depends on it? When it stays running it runs awesome,no problems except it just does randomly like u shut key off? Sumtimes itl start right back up others itl do the no start thing! IV put new plug, adjusted valves and hot tanked carb? I'm at a loss here guys! Please any other ideas? I don't think it's anything to do with flywheel? It's not the auto it has a hi low reverse lever on left fender and foot shifter? Help please lol
  6. Turn on bike start fine but only in neutral. Cannot start in gear like most bikes do when you haul in on brake lever. Also when i turn key forward to turn lights on bike shuts off and wont start. Have to turn key back to on position and then will start. Can anyone suggest what problem can be.
  7. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. Here goes... This summer I started working on a 2006 Arctic Cat 400 TRV (green). I replaced the carburetor because the electric choke wasn't working. After doing this and checking the fuel pump and gas, I was able to get the atv running. It would idle great and sounded great, BUT when I tried to give it gas, it would bog down and die. I thought the carb may need adjusting, but when fooling with it and trying to solve the throttle issue, the starter got hot and busted a magnet. So then I replaced the starter with a brand new one. Then it would act like it was going to start but wouldn't. When I started inspecting further and looked that the stator and flywheel, the flywheel had a loose magnet. So then I replaced the stator and flywheel with a brand new one. I also replaced the solenoid, and the ignition solenoid. I replaced it because i was getting fire down to the starter solenoid, but not to the spark plug. I was getting fire to the plug but lost it. So, from the time the starter got hot and busted a magnet, I have not been able to get the atv to run. Sometime between replacing the flywheel and stator and starter, I have lost power to the start button. I have looked at all of the wires and made sure there wasn't a naked wire or something causing a short. When testing wires with a tester, I believe I was getting fire to pretty much everything. I can't remember if I was getting fire to the start button. but I'm assuming I'm not. Don't hold me to that though. When testing the stator, I'm not getting fire. I know you can get bad parts even if they're supposed to be new. What are yall's thoughts on what can be the problem? I have literally worked on this bike for going on 4 months in between waiting on parts to arrive. I don't know what else to check. I have another stator that I know is good that I'm going to try (maybe tomorrow). With all of the problems I've had, I swear this atv is cursed or something. LOL! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. I have an 07 Arctic Cat 400. Non DVX. It’ll turn over and backfire through the carb. I have verified timing, tried in both positions. 180 out. Carb is clean but it’s an EBay special. But I have tried another carb (different from a 350 Rancher) with the exact same results. I have also verified valve lash, good fuel, good plug, compression is about 110. I’m about to my ends with this things?!? Any ideas?
  9. Hey I was thinking about buying this 400 cheap The way it's smoking I think the cylinder will need bored? can this bored or re sleeved
