I’m working on a Kawasaki Bayou KLF400 for a family member that doesn’t have spark. I’ve already replace the ignition switch and the stator which were defective. The stator had a melted connector and one of the phase had low resistance and low VAC output. What I’ve figured out so far is that I’m not getting 12V to the ignition coil when I turn the key to the ON position. From what I understand, the 12V should come from the CDI. I’ve resistance tested both wires going from the CDI to the ignition coil (Green/white and black/yellow). They are fine. The only 12V coming from the ECU is on the yellow/red wire. I don’t have the wiring diagram for the 400 but I’m working with the one for the Bayou 300 which looks pretty similar except for the wire color between the CDI and ignition coil. On the 300 diagram, the yellow/red wire goes to the ignition coil, not the black/yellow… All the other wires color match except for this one. Not sure if that’s normal? Thanks!

This ATV has for last 2 years started almost instantly, about 3months ago - it would not start up (turns over great). Few days later it starts and runs fine- started several times in couple hours I rode it. Tried next morning- would not run! Tried to start several times in next week- no run. It decided to run after sitting few weeks- ran fine for about 1.5 hours. It sat for couple hours and hasn’t ran since! each time it would not start- I had no spark. It seems to decide when it wants to fire. I have changed plug and checked pick up. sorry about long story. thanks in advance for any leads

Hey, I purchased a 1994 Kawasaki Bayou 400 4x4 which was running fine when I had all of the plastics off and now that I have put all the plastics back on the machine I am getting some strange symptoms. With the ignition on (neutral light on) and having the kill switch in the RUN position now have no crank, no spark. But when I put the kill switch in the STOP (or off) position the electric motor crank, but still I am getting no spark. Is it normal for the ATV electric motor to work in the off position and not in the RUN position? It wasn't doing this before. I have replaced the spark plug and the ignition coil so far. I am wondering if something is getting shorted after I put the plastics back on? Any ideas? If it is a short any ideas how can I track it down? Thanks!

so someone thought they would adjust the clutch on this 98 bayou but the messed with the bottom screw and now it will not go in to neutral they say the tightened it all down and went for a ride then shut it off before putting it into neutral then the tried to shift it into neutral to start it and they couldn't get it to shift into neutral it has not started.
