Hello all, I have a 1996 Bruin 4x4 that is stuck in gear. The shifter is not responding. Is there a way to manually take it out of gear? I'm not sure if there is a place on the transmission itself I can move the lever to take it out of gear. Any help is appreciated!

Hello out there, I recently picked-up a 2005 Yamaha Bruin 250 for the wife. When I went to check it out, it started on first pull, idled nicely, drove it around, essentially no problem. The previous owner had recently put in a new Chinese made carb, and all seemed well. I got the Bruin home, unloaded it, and fired it up. Started to drive it around and noted that it would idle fine, but would bog and whitish smoke would come out of the exhaust when throttle was applied. Did some research online and there was talk of possibly a stuck or bad ring, bad oil, or leaking head gasket. Recommendations were to first change out the oil before proceeding further. I changed out the oil and put in 10W-40 synthetic with 20% Marvel Mystery oil ( was recommended on a couple of sites, but not sure if this was the best idea). The old oil in the machine was thick and black, obviously not having been changed in a long time. I also put is a new plug. After starting up the machine, it idles fine with no smoke. I can even drive it around in first gear at low RPMs with no smoke or bogging. If I increase to about 1/2 throttle or shift into second gear, it starts to smoke (whitish), bogs and dies. I've check the plug, and there appears to be black oil residue on it. I am not sure where to start, as I am not sure if it is one issue or a combination. I've seen four strokes drive around burning oil and not bogging. There appears to be some correlation between the bogging and the smoking. I am not sure where to go with this next. Do I swap out the oil with the Marvel Mystery oil in it for pure synthetic? Do I try putting in 20W-50 to see if this resolves the issue? I half question if the reason that the ATV drove fine when I tested it was that the old oil was so thick and dirty that it could not leak past the rings. Or am I looking at performing a top end rebuild with new gaskets and rings? Total frustration here with a new machine to me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

2005 Yamaha 350 bruin ATV sat for two years...hard start so drained the gas tank...new gas...started hard even with choke...but once started would go through the country side...sat for a month...hard start so pulled tank and cleaned it out...starts easy and idles fine without the choke...but the minute i try and throttle up it dies...if i start it with the throttle held half open will start and run...goes back to an idle just fine...but dies if i throttle up at all...looking in the ventura of the carb it looks like there is something restricting 2/3 of the air intake...? possible ruptured diaphram?...time for a new carb?

Hello! When I put my Bruin in reverse....reverse light comes on....and the quad backed up. I went forward, and everything was great. Then I tried reverse again, and the light would come on, but the engine would only rev up, it would not move. This has lasted for a couple weeks, then yesterday, when I started it - I tried reverse....and it moved, I moved it forward to try again, and then it refused to move again. I don't know much about these machines (Yamaha) but it seems like even though the reverse light comes on, something isn't telling the bike it's in gear....where should I start with this problem?

Yamaha BRUIN 350 Quad Hi, think water got into the tank, have managed to drain fuel (not the best experience) and empty the carb of fuel ........ so it starts now and runs however, it cuts out on fuel and won’t restart, it will restart on reserve ? When I turn it off and back onto fuel, it will start again. If I take for a short run on fuel it will cut out again and only restart on reserve 😳. Any ideas what else I can check. Many thanks

About a year ago I replaced the carb on an Bruin that I bought from a relative, I replaced it because it was gummed up from bad gas sitting in it for a couple years. Replaced the carb, and ran it a little bit and it had a problem of the carb popping whenever giving it throttle. I assumed this was just a fuel air mixture I needed to adjust, but I was lazy and just let it sit for a few more months. I went to adjust it just now, but I don't know if I'm slightly retarded, but I can't find the fuel/air mixture adjustment screw anywhere on the damn thing. I've tried nearly every screw I could find on it without taking the whole thing off (Which is a pain on this atv). I'll link some pictures I have from ebay on this carb. I also checked manuals and diagrams of the carb and could not find anything anywhere. Please spare me from my complete ignorance.

Need some help please. I am trying to set timing on 4x4 350 bruin 2006. My brother and I disagree on which ones to use. If anyone has a picture they could share I would greatly appreciate it

Recently, I changed the timing chain. I lined up all timing marks and set valve lash at TDC. The mark on flywheel was on point as well when I looked through sight hole. I started the engine and starter turned it over then it hit and stuck. I did it one more time and the same thing happened. I took everything off and saw no damage. I tried to turn it over by hand and same thing. It turns halfway or so and hits. I loosened valve lash and took crank gear off and it does the same thing. It will turn over clockwise fully but not CCW. It seems like the crank sub assembly weight is hitting the gear balancer weight. I can turn crankshaft CCW while turning the gear balancer CW and get it to go but feel it hitting something. I also can spin crankshaft CCW without crank gear on and force the engine to break past the stick. It’s not the piston. Please give me some suggestions thanks

Hello all, I registered on this site because I just purchased a new to me 2005 Yamaha Bruin 250 2wd. This seems to be the only place to get diagrams so I'm hoping I can download them sooner or later. The guy I bought it from said it had no spark. And it truly does not have spark...lol I haven't looked into much on it. Looks like he replaced the ignition switch and the stator. I'm thinking CDI box but I want to check the coil first. I look forward to helping others out on the electrical end of the world. I am an ASE certified automotive electrical technician. If it's 12v, I can usually figure it out.
