  1. I bought a 2000 Yamaha bear tracker 250 it start and idles fine but when you shift it into gear and start to go at a high rpm the reverse lever starts to make a grinding noise and you have to hold it forward or the atv will shut off any help would be great!
  2. I am repairing my 100 for the grandkids, the rear axle pinion gear is chewed up, but luckily I found a used on from an old moto 4 80cc that is interchangeable...I only had to change out the axle hubs, and they are splined, so that was easy. I now need to fill the rear casing with grease, as I cleaned all the old grease out. What should I use for this? It is sealed when assembled, with no way to check it or fill it further. Any help is appreciated.
  3. I recently bought a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 with CVT. The bike runs great. Starts right up and motor sounds solid. My problem is sometimes when I shift into gear it grinds as I'm shifting. I always make sure the bike is at a complete stop, I press the foot brake on, and I shift the lever into HIGH or LOW or REVERSE and it grinds as it pops in gear. I'm guessing maybe the idle is too high or I may need a new clutch kit. It has the original stock CVT clutch (springs and weights) so it's probably due for some maintenance. I have adjusted the throttle screw on the carb and when I first turn on bike when cold it idles fine, but after I've been riding a while and she is good and warmed up she idles slightly higher which then creates this horrible grind noise when I shift into gear. My old '92 Polaris Trail Boss did the exact same thing but I found if I applied the foot brake it stopped it from grinding. Pressing the foot brake as I shift doesn't seem to help. I have not opened up the cvt cover to investigate the pulleys yet. Any advice before I start dismantling parts? I'm thinking I will adjust my idle down a little. If this doesn't help I'll take a look at the CVT. Previous owner claims he installed a NEW belt, but never messed the pulleys. And on a side note I plan on changing the stock 25" tires with some 26" or 27" mud tires. This would be a good reason to upgrade my bike with a clutch kit. It would help turn the bigger tires and I'm guessing it might help with this grinding problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am handy with a wrench, but I am not a mechanic by trade.
  4. Ok, I dug around on here but to no avail. A newbie here so be gentle. My 01 Kodiak 400, (bought new and fluids seem good) automatic, will slip/jerk if in park on a slope. Shifts and drives fine all the time but just not strong on the parking. So, nothing I cant live with for now but...will it harm anything if I delay repairs? Is it something that can be repaired without it looking like a titanic overhaul and is it typically a high dollar thing? Thank you much in advance!!
  5. A couple years ago, i helped my dad rebuild the engine on a 98 Suzuki 230. It has a clutchless manual and im not sure how many speeds. When you go to riding it, it is hard to get into, and out of first gear, and sometimes second gear is a real pain to get to. What needs to be done to fix the transmission, or transaxle on it? So far ive never had it higher than third gear and even it was a challenge to downshift from there.
  6. Well Im gonna start doing harescrambles on my quad, never did anything like it before so I never needed gear for it. Ive rode casual before and never wore any gear, i know i know I should of still worn some sort of protection... So Im gonna start with a helmet and chest protector. Im sure I can use most helmets but im worried about finding a chest protector. Im a lil bigger then average even tho Im losing weight and trying to get in shape for racing. So what do i do for a chest protector, do i go for only ladies or does it matter if I get a mens chest protector? I do have a wide chest so I worry if a ladies will fit me right or not. Every place I go in the area only carry mens so its hard for me to try a ladies on and im most likely gonna order it online cause its cheaper then ordering from the stores in my area. So any opinions? What has worked for you what hasnt? Any info would be great!! Thanks
  7. Just was curious on why you shop where you do and what places would you recommend for Apparel tires parts and any other accessories you may need??
  8. I have a Honda Recon 250 (2001, I think). I purchased a plow for it this winter with helpful advice from members of the forum and plowing has been a breeze. However, the atv is manual shift and as I am out in the cold plowing, it becomes increasingly difficult to shift into forward gear (lifting up on the lever). I was wondering if this was common in cold weather, and is there a way to adjust the lever or lubricate something in order to prevent the shifting from becoming so difficult. Unfortunately, I have to continuously shift from forward to reverse and back again in order to plow the driveway. Eventually, over time (about 30 minutes) I have to reach down and pull up hard on the shift lever to get back into forward gear. Any suggestions/ideas? (I inherited this atv, my next atv will be automatic). Thanks is advance.
  9. When you Ride......What do you Don????? All the Latest Tech. that is on the Shelf??? Or do you just go Commando with a Helmet??? WHAT SAY YOU!!!!
  10. My husband has an F150 and im trying to find him a gear shift knob that looks like a helmet. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find one? Im searching ebay now and havent found anything.

  12. A buddy of mine crashed off a jump the other day and if still alive thanks to his protective gear if he did not have his helmet on and his Chest protector he would not be alive today. The helmet cracked in half but took the impact off his skull i cant imagine what would of happend to him if he had not worn it and with out the Chest protector he would of had a footpeg through his back. He's still in rough shape (broken arm, broken rib, and a cut liver) but with the gear truely saved his life so guys, They make it for a reason please ware it.
  13. I own a 2003 arctic cat 400 4x4 and recently it has been giving me problems switching gears. Also every time after starting and putting it in reverse or high gear it jerks me forward or backward.

  16. A good source for some online gear is New Enough motorcycle leathers. About 2 years ago they launched New Enough MX and have some selected gear. Decent Prices, but EXCELLENT customer service. [link="http://www.newenoughmx.com/index3.htm]New Enough MX Gear[/link]
