  1. should i run a thicker oil in a older quad because it make a little more noise than usual
  2. Hello All I have a 1987 Suzuki dual range 230 and a 96 bayou 220. I'm trying to figure what oil to use. I normally put Amzoil synthetic in most everything. But I understand there are concerns over the wet clutch. I've heard rotella 10w40 full synthetic,5w40 synthetic,10w30&40 non synthetic. I do live in Michigan, so temps cold and hot are encountered. It could be below zero or 90 degrees farenhight. I don't have manuals for them. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  3. Just a poll to see what brand and type of oil others are using in their ATVs
  4. New bonehead here figuring out the trails! Just got a 2008 Suzuki Z400, and the guy said he just did an oil change, but needs a little more because he was letting it cycle through before topping it off. He says he used ATV Power SAE 5W-40 Synthetic 4T Engine Oil, but the manual just says use 10W-40. He lives a couple hours away, where it's a little bit colder, so I'm assuming that's why he used 5W instead of 10W? Anyways, I only need a little bit more oil, and since it's already new in there, can I put the 10W in and let it mix? Also, does the brand being the same matter at all? I haven't gone out and looked in person yet, but actual ATV oil seems a bit expensive compared to just getting some standard oil at AutoZone, and the online manual I found isn't that clear on options. I'd appreciate some feedback and experience in this area, as well as the best place to get oil and filters when it's time. Thanks in advance!
  5. I had the local garage change the oil and filter in my machine and ever since they changed it there has been an oil leak. Taken it back several times and they can't figure out the problem.
  6. Hey people Question for all, just picked a 1986 bayou 300 thinking of going synthetic any thoughts ?
  7. Can anyone tell me a oil I could use in my 99 Honda 450 automatic instead of Honda brand.. I live about 60 miles from the dealer so gets expensive. Thanks
  8. I have a 1997 Polaris sport 400l what type of oil can I use other than the Polaris oil. I have found online that it is a 10w-30 or 10w-40. the other problem its a 2 stroke so do I put 2 stroke oil or just regular oil I need help. thanks to everyone that reads this im new to the atv world
  9. changing stator in a 94 bayou 400.the oil is milky ,mixed with water.I am replacing water pump seals.how much oil ( if any) should be in this side of engine. there has been ( to me ) a lot of condination from vent tube lately. don't think head gasket is bad it was running ok when it was running. what do you think..
  10. Do you guys buy oil from the atv dealer? What are you using in your quads? I don't go to the dealer. I just go to the local autopartstore and ask them to get me Valvoline atv oil for 4 strokes http://www.valvoline.com/atv/ They also get me my filter which is made by wix filters. http://wixfilters.com/filterlookup/atv.asp Just curious what everyone uses...
  11. I have a prairie 650 there is oil coming out of the tube that goes to the air box a lot of oil can someone help. Ray
  12. Ok, I sent hubby to the local cycle shop for some 2 stroke oil and it was closed. He stopped at Home Depot and picked up 2 small bottles of 2 stroke oil with stabilizer in it, but it is synthetic lube. I still have some regular oil in the injector, but not synthetic. Can I add this to my oil injection with the regular oil in it, or should I disconnect the injection unit and just run premix? I used to run Castor 927 premix without the injection, but is easier for my son to just add gas and go....anyone got a comment or suggestion?
  13. Working on a 2002 Polaris Sportmans 500. Just changed the oil. Rode it for a bit, a couple days Later I went to ride it, I checked the oil it was a little over full and could smell gas. It started right up and runs fine. I did not shut the gas off but I never have. What could be wrong? Thanks, van
  14. I have a 86 225 moto 4 do you check the oil level with the dip stick screwed in or sitting on top
  15. I read alot of posts about owners refusing to pay $10+ for a quart of atv oil. Going to Wallys,Autozone, Pepboys, I cant find atv oil less than 10 bux. Am i looking at the wrong oil? Im talking about oil specifically made for wet clutches. I just bought mobil1 10-40 4t synthetic (didnt have semi) and itvwas 13 a quart. lucas oil semi synthetic 20-50 was $10 a quart. Honda lube is 17 a quart and 22 a quart Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
  16. Hey guys im sure its some where posted on here alredy, but i was wondering how often i should change the oil on my 03 400EX. the guy i got it from before said he did it every 3 rides. Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks!
  17. So today I went out to the garage and I noticed a puddle of oil under the bike. What I found was a leak in the Rear Gearbox Input Shaft or (Snorkel Shaft). I know I have to pull the drive shaft out but after that i'm at a loss. If anyone has changed one of these seals before I would appreciate a little help.
  18. About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest. The host said to Forbes, "I am going to ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer; how much oil does the U.S. have in the ground?" Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "more than all the Middle East put together." Please read below. The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana ..... check THIS out: The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5...3 trillion. "When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.." says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst. "This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years," reportsThe Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' It stretches from Northern Montana , through North Dakota and into Canada . For years, U. S. oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves..... and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL! That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight. And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from 2006! U.. S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006 Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling? They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.. Here are the official estimates: - 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia - 18-times as much oil as Iraq - 21-times as much oil as Kuwait - 22-times as much oil as Iran - 500-times as much oil as Yemen - and it's all right here in the Western United States . HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy....WHY? James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post. Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to. Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists? Got your attention yet? Now, while you're thinking about it, do this: Pass this along. If you don't take a little time to do this, then you should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices - by doing NOTHING, you forfeit your right to complain. Now I just wonder what would happen in this country if every one of you sent this to every one in your address book. By the way...this is all true. Check it out at the link below!!! GOOGLE it, or follow this link. It will blow your mind. USGS Release: 3 to 4.3 Billion Barrels of Technically Recoverable Oil Assessed in North Dakota and Montana’s Bakken Formation—25 Times More Than 1995 Estimate— (4/10/2008 2:25:36 PM) __________________

  21. Common misconception is that you need to return to the dealer for an exact oil filter for your ATV. Aftermarket companies actually make filters for the O.E.M. market. Why go to the dealer when you can get the exact filter you need at your local auto parts store such as CARQUEST or NAPA. Wix corporation makes ATV filters that you'll find in most of your popular autopart stores. In most cases, you'll pay allot less! WIX is a leader in the filter business. Check out this ATV FILTER CATALOG. Remember, you can right down the filter # and have it cross-referenced at your local autopart store if they don't carry WIX, CARQUEST, or NAPA. You can also click on the part # for the filter image. https://www.autopartsforum.com/topic/23-showmetheparts-catalog/
