  1. I have a rancher 420 TM that since i bought it has a cold hard shift problem beyond a doubt clutch is not releasing by shift lever. After it gets good and hot it shifts ok. Tried preloading adjustment screw clutch releases and shifts smooth but slips. Have had the clutch out and apart twice for inspection and didnt see anything wrong. Any tips will be appreciated. I've ran out of things to try instead of throwing new parts at it.
  2. 2014 Honda Rancher TRX420TM1: Unit starts right up, once it warms up it stalls and more difficult to start but once it does start it won't stay running. I have replaced the fuel assembly, IACV, O2 sensor and fuel injector. There are no active DTC codes. Disconnecting fuel line at injector and turning on key there is a steady stream of fuel. Plug looks good did not see crack in ceramic. Is there any way to test the ignition coil? Thanks for any help.
  3. Hi, New to ATV repair but willing to learn and get my hands dirty. We start the atv and even with a good battery, it will drain it very quickly and eventually the atv shuts down. Checking the battery afterwards shows significant drain on it. Would this be a shot alternator? Some electronics module? Thank you kindly. Just need to be pointed in the right direction and then with a repair manual will get to it. Cheers
  4. My Honda Rancher TRX420 gets stuck in whatever gear I'm riding in after 20-30 minutes. It has an electronic shift. It started several months ago but is getting more frequent. If I turn the engine off, put it back in neutral, and restart it, the gears will shift properly for another 10 minutes or so. Any ideas?
  5. Hi I'm new to the site thank you in advance for your help and your time. I was hoping if anyone would be able to help me figure out why my rancher fourtrax reverse all of a sudden just doesn't work. I was plowing late one night and it was pretty cold out and the reverse worked fine. Then the next thing I know I go into reverse to back up again and it shifts down into reverse just fine that's not the problem but when I actually try to move in reverse the four wheeler just hops around like the tires want to move and they're trying to move however nothing will make it move it's weird. I don't know if it is the tires that are actually doing the hopping/movement or what it is but its like the back end just starts hopping / bouncing all around and stuff it's really strange actually lol but yeah 😣😕 ~Deanndra

I have a 420 Rancher I deeded to chage out the battery after doing so, It will not shift gears in forward and in reverse it runs like the engine is flooded It was fine before I change out the battery.? this is the 420 with automatic transmission This happens if in auto or manual I have run out things to check.
  7. 2012 Rancher ES-- only when driving in 4x4 when I get to about 15-18mph there is a loud clunk in the front end and a hard downward jerk. Its almost as if its trying to downshift itself. It doesn't do it in 2 wheel drive. I have checked the angle shift sensor and applied dielectric grease to it, changed the front end differential fluid (the old still looked good and clean) checked and adjusted the clutch. Hopefully someone can give me some more ideas.
  8. My Rancher cranks right up and runs great for a while and then it will suddenly sputter out and die. It usually cranks right back up and again runs great for a while and then same thing. Yesterday it got to where it acted like it wasn't going to crank back up a few time but eventually did. Any suggestions??
  9. When running for a while the rancher will shut off without the fan turning on. We then took it to dealer where it was started and warmed up. The fan came on at the dealer so they then replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. We got it back and ran good for a few days with the fan coming on when needed. Now its back to shutting off before the fan ever comes on. It seems like the time the fan should come on the bike shuts off. It will start after letting it sit for a few minutes. Any ideas of the problem?
  10. I replaced the fuel pump filter and it ran great for a week or so. Then while driving across the yard in 3rd gear it shut off and hasn't started since. It has fire and its getting fuel, all fuses are good, battery fully charged. The fuel pump relay seems to be warmer than it should be when spinning it over. Any help is appreciated!
  11. Any idea what would cause the cotter pin to break and the nut to back off? The loose hub is wollored out so its trash and the axle splines show a little wear. I'm going to replace the hub and I'm curious how much play is acceptable before I need to replace the axle?
