Sorry about the mess in the garage and the yard currently cleaning out the garage

Finally got her put together anyone have any tips for keeping these guys running and idling good she won't idle and stay idling she runs fine but I can't quite figure out how to tune the carb right. Was also wondering if anyone knows if the bike needs a battery to run the lights while it's running

I'll always pick makuni or a rebuild kit for one

Hey all back again with my 1989 moto 4 250.
After putting a new carb on it it's really sputtery, it has new gas and I'm wondering what to tune on the carb to make it idle better. I've attached a video to describe the issue more. The bike is still work in progress but I think the video gets the point across. Thanks!

Just looking at your photo looking like lights are not there are the wires intact and no battery hooked up.
Wires are there I was under the impression it ran from the motor and didn't need a battery

Actually.. haha.. I wasn't thinking straight.. The timing light isn't going to confirm the ignition timing.
Check the throttle cable.
Actually I got it running decent and got her all back together turns out it was the hand throttle it was bent up causing the carb to be constantly open video attached is before I put the plastics back on still waiting on a new throttle but it works

If you have a timing light it's an easy check.
Was there water in the cylinder when you got it home ? It may have died because of a wet ignition and so stopped running before the engine filled enough to do any mechanical damage.. If you had a good air filter it shouldn't really have done it..
From your description it doesn't really sound like it should have done it.. Have you checked the throttle cable has freeplay, and free play when the bars are turned ? You can check for air leaks into the inlet manifold by spraying a bit of starter fluid around near there while the engines running. If there's a leak it will start revving..
Thanks I'm gonna gonncheck some of this now

If this bike got enough water into the cylinder to lock it up, you might have broken the key in the flywheel and the ignition timing might be too far advanced..
Is there any way to test this without tearing down the motor it flooded from the exhaust not the carb

So both carbs are letting it run too high at idle ?
You might have an air leak between the carb and manifold..
it wouldn't run on the old carb at all

Hey first post here got a moto 4 250 that I'm fixing bought it for cheep she was running before I flooded it. Pushed the bike back and started tearing it apart and got it running again my issue is she idles way to high even after messing with the carb screws now I don't know a lot about bikes but hoping someone else dose.
I replaced the carb with a used one opened it up and it don't look like it's dirty but she won't run with the original carb
