  1. I've had my king quad for eleven years and never run into this problem. It starts great and runs great for about five minutes. As soon as I go to take off, it sputters and dies if I don't drop back to idle. It will idle fine after that but basically won't go anywhere. It acts as if there is a restriction in the fuel lines or something like that. I did find one blockage in the main fuel line from the tank, checked all vaccum lines to carb, and changed the spark plug. Plug was basically clean and not majorly worn, just fuel washed. It's got the same oil leak at the head it's had since 2002. Nothing else has changed. It's the middle of deer season and I've got to have my quad up and running! Any thoughts?

I chased this same problem on my 96 king quad.......... for 2 years..........

had the carb apart 4 times, new fuel pump, etc etc

It used to start great and run great for a few minutes.............

It would sit there and idle all day ............. but punch the throttle........... and it would miss and sputter.

One day I noticed that if I engaged the starter ( I have a remote swith so I can start in any gear at any time ......... trying to find neutral with a trailer full of rocks or wood on a steep slope was a pain) .............

In any case, the thing ran good............ but only if the starter was engaged.

I replaced the starter solonid............ no help, checke the wiring , fuses............ no help..........

I found using the head lights on helped............ and now ride with the lights on and even added another bulb to "load the system.

Don't ask me why it works.............. it just does. If I turn off the lights, or the additional electrical load I added............ the thing sputters and will not rev up................ yet it will idle just fine.

Add a load to the battery............ and it runs good.........

    Hope this helps,

    Eric
