Would it do it if the gas is off when not riding it?

i have a 2002 yamaha wolverine and it starts fine but when i go to press on the gas when i put it in gear it bogs out untill i let off the throttle but most the time before i let the throttle out it shuts off! so then i have to pull the choke out and i have to let it sit for like 8 min and it still does it but wont shut off what makes it do this?
