08 king quad 400f help PLEASE

Hello and thank you for the add. 

I recently purchased my first 4x4 an 08 king quad 400f. The cam and head were off and it had a few other minor issues. But for $600 I figured what the hell id take a gamble. 

I finally picked up everything I thought I might need to fix it. And started working on it tonight. And noticed something. 

It seems to be stuck in 4x4. You can not feel the clicks on the foot shifter like a normal quad. My question is this..... Does it need to have power to activate anything for shifting or should I be able to feel it click like a normal quad ?

Also you can roll it around with no issues. And it feels as though it does have some resistance. Like pulling in a clutch on a manual shift while it's in gear.
