I had an older honda years ago that would turn over an start up when you pressed the start bitton but as aoon as you would let off of the start button it would not run any more. It ended up being the voltage regulator. Just take a screw driver and jump the two large wires on the solenoid. If the starter turns over then you have eliminated the starter solenoid as the problem.
