  1. Need some feedback here. I picked this machine up with PO saying no spark. I have tried new stator, CDI, and coil. The stator ohms 231 w/r to w/g and .1 red to blue. The coil is .8 primary and 2.53 secondary. I have 12 to the CDI with ign on and the wires from stator to CDI have good continuity. This model only has 12v on or off for ign/kill source. Still no spark?
  2. You are correct. At this point I don't know if/what works or not. The screen is broken but there.
  3. Found it, the PO has jammed a socket on it. I was looking at a manual "electric" shift override kit on ebay for $20. It is supposed to allow you to shift with the button by overriding the the ecu and angle sensor as best I understand it? Anyway for $20 it sounds like a neat trick.
  4. I believe it will. Thank you. The first step is to get power t all the right places and then establish spark. Once I get it running I will work on a way to manual shift the electric shift motor.
  5. That is why I need a wiring diagram to try and get the power flowing to all the right places. I ordered an ignition switch and a multi-switch to start there.
  6. I am gathering parts now. So that will be a great tip to follow up on, thanks. What I really need right now is a wiring diagram so I can see what all has been hacked out of the system.
  7. Just bought this machine for $250 thinking should be good for parts, but now I want to see if I can make it run and ride. It turns over with compression when I put power to the starter, so that made me want to try. It was flipped and then sold to a parts guy who hacked the wiring BAD and left to sit for several years. They tried to bypass everything on the ES by cutting the main power wires from the fuse box and running a new power wire to the dash and straight wiring the fan. It is crazy bad. I need a wiring diagram and will try to get power back to everything that should have it and then do the electric shift manual bypass. Right now it is missing the coil/wires, the dash and shift buttons/start switch is smashed, ignition wires are twisted together... Yeah, it is a mess. Pics to follow! Any help, ideas, manuals, pics, drawings, etc are welcome!
  8. Thanks, that is what I have been searching. So this is what I found. The 1995-2000 front shaft is the same as the Big Bear 350 and Kodiak 400. The 01-05 front drive shaft is listed only for the Wolverine. Not sure what changed from 2000 to 2001? Trying to find something I can modify to fit.
  9. What years were the 4x4 made? I just looked it up and it says 4x4 was made 1995-2001.
  10. Hey guys, I just picked up this quad that hasn't run an a few years. It is missing the front drive shaft. Does anyone have the can measure for me or know of a replacement? If I can get the dimensions I can try to use one from another machine. Thanks!
  11. It only runs for one to two minutes, maybe less. I did try to rev it a little and it revved fine and then backfired and cut off. So I will go through the whole fuel system again this week. We have a worship team in town from Pretoria South Africa and hosting them is a round the clock task right now. Thanks
  12. Mech, you are definitely on to something. The hard starting and kickback turned out to be a bad starter. So now it spins right over and cranks but will only run on full choke and still leans out and backfires after running a few minutes. So I put a new intake in it. It was a cheap one from the bay and it is poor quality. I think the main issue is a poorly jetted carb which is obviously not the original mikuni. I have no info about the carb from the po.
  13. Thanks for the replies. Little update, I switched the pins on the stator and it fired right up...sorta. It still has the hard to crank syndrome like the valves are out of adjustment. The starter really complains trying to turn it over. If I keep hitting and releasing the starter it will hit a sweet spot and fire right up and idle decent with a little choke. But only runs for a minute or two and backfires through the carb and dies. It blew the carb off the boot. When I cover the carb with my hand you barely feel any intake suction. Stumped for the moment.
  14. Hey guys, I just picked up a 09 Big Bar 250 that was completely taken apart. The owner was trying to fix a no spark issue. I put it all back together and sure enough no spark. I have had a Timber wolf, 3 Bear Trackers, and Bruin 250 over the years so yeah I like these things. After a ohm test on the stator sure enough dead pickup coil, so I ordered a fleabay special. I have put one of these on a couple of the other quads with good results. Anyway, the stator came today and I installed it right away. Quick check and sure enough nice spark. Hook everything up and no start, but a nice backfire through the carb. Clean carb,, no start. Check compression (120psi) no start. Hit it with starting fluid and it back fires real bad, you can hear the starter one way clutch complain. Try pull start and it really jerks your arms. I pulled it back apart and checked flywheel key. Lined up timing marks and they are spot on. Set valves to .004 intake, .005 exhaust. It seems like it is firing on the wrong time. But there is no way to do that, that I can see. Could the new stator pins be backwards? Would it spark but out of time? I am stumped. It doesn't even try to start just bad backfire through the carb. Ideas?
