It is on a 03 z-400. Whenever i let off the gas it pops and backfires. What would be causing that to happen?

This Saturday i will be going to look at a couple 03 ltz400's. What should i be looking out for on the ltz400's specifically the 03's. I plan on buying one of them and what to make sure that the problem spots are ok. Thanks
