You may clean the oil strainer at the base of the engine case without removing it, but you'll need to remove the engine mount bolts, remove the exhaust pipe from the head, and carefully lift the engine up. Five 8mm socket bolts secure the strainer. Since this is a recognized problem with Can-Am vehicles, it is strongly advised that you also remove the decompression weight, spring, or pin from the end of the camshaft. If it has been completed, remove the valve cover and check the right side behind the cam chain and gear.
