Hey guys! I am in need of some serious help with my little quad. Take a listen to the video and see if you can decipher why it is running like it is. I have yet to figure it out.

I have cleaned and rebuilt the carb with OEM parts and jets. Put in a new petcock, fuel filter, and fuel line. Replaced the computer. Put on a new coil, wire, and cap. Replaced the spark plug. Checked the compression and valves. Everything was in spec with the manual. I am at a serious loss. Please let me know your thoughts.

Here is another video after I turned the air screw IN a quarter of a turn.

Well I thought you were to keep it fired up. Initially it sounded like a stuck starter to me. Try pulling that out and use the pull start.

Also thinking timing chain jumped. Did you check the timing?

Posted

Ah yes, I could see that for sure. Nah it starts with just a tiny tap of the starter button. Its always been that way. Plus, this one doesnt have a pull starter.

In the 2nd video I just posted you can hear it idling like a champ right off the bat. When I give it gas is when I encounter the problems. Check it out and let me know what you think.

hmmm... you took care of the spark stuff. If the chain jumped it would be hard to start again. Same if your valves are whack.

Thinking fuel starvation or flooding. Do you have a suction fuel pump?

Posted

The only way the fuel is getting pumped is by mother nature, gravity. There isnt a fuel pump.

But I agree, I think its a fuel issue...perhaps jetting. Not sure cause it ran fine at this elevation prior and it has stock jets in it. So one would think that is a fine base point to start from with minor adjustments thereafter.

Yeah there is. New Yamaha style petcock and got rid of the vacuum port on the petcock and blocked off the port on the carburetor. Also on the cap I have a good vent hose coming off of it.

I took the line off the carb and let the fuel run through the petcock, filter, and line and it ran freely. No blockages.

Has anyone had a suzuki 230 quad lock the engine up?  Its a well maintained bike, it locked up when my son was riding it. Pulled the plug, it has connected with the piston. I'm thinking the con rod let go.  I don't have a service manual.  Does the engine need to come out to check further?

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.

I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.
