The problem was having no battery at all, I boughtva battery threw it in and it runs great!

I have a 97 280 king quad I just rebuilt I set the timing adjusted the valves and went to start it it fires up but will only stay running if I keep the start button depressed, idont have a battery Iin it yet just hooked up to my battery charger with it on jump could this be the issue if not any suggestions?
