  2. Had a lot of the same problems you're describing. Picked up a carb for about the same price as a rebuild kit, now sure where, but i could check. Other than a little adjustment, that had me running the same day i replaced the carb.

  4. The thing is, it isn't a intermittent revving. From the moment it starts it's like having the throttle lever wide open. Just replaceth throttle cable, and it seems to be functioning as it should. It has the vacuum fuel pump, I've heard a lean condition can cause a high idle.
  5. Turns out that the hot wire from the battery to the main fuse was gone. Now that I have power, on to the next issue. I was told that the carb had been "rebuilt", and that it idled way too high. Fired it up and sure enough, WIDE open. Went through the carb, blew everything out, still the same. Idle screw does nothing, adjusted the clip on the needle and nothing. Any thoughts?
  6. So, I picked up a 87 Suzuki Quadrunner 250 4wd to do a few repairs.(Brake and throttle cables, brakes, air cleaner, etc.) We rolled it off the trailer, tried to start it and the battery was dead. Though it did crank a few times with the push button. I pulled it in the shop and finished the repairs, go to start it, and nothing. I MEAN NOTHING, no headlights, no neutral light, nothing. I assumed in changing the cables something had come unplugged, but i haven't found anything from front to back. Battery is charged, connections are clean, but i have no voltage anywhere on the quad except on the battery side of the solenoid. Checked fuses, and neutral relay and everything checks out. Trans is in neutral and rolls freely. If I jump the solenoid, it will fire up, but I can't get anything from the push button start. Anyone have any ideas, something I've missed?
  7. Bingo! Someone suggested that to me this morning, and it took care of it.

  9. Turns out it's a '86 225. Flushed the tank, new carb, and new fuel switch on the tank. Starts up and idles like a champ. Problem is that it falls on its face when opening the throttle. First thought was maybe the breaks we're locked up (felt like it may have been grabbing).. Went trough all of that, and checks out. I adjusted the mixture needle to 2 1/4 turns from seated. Cleaned and checked the plug a few times, and it's black and sooty.Anyone know the correct setting for these carbs? It seems to get worse as things get warmer. Since I discovered the spark plug boot is toast, going to go ahead and order a new coil. I'm wondering if the coil is crapping out when it gets hot, causing the fouling of the plug.
  10. Thanks for the info! Maybe now I can find the serial #. Think I may have found the problem, went through all the wiring again today and found yet another wire that was pieced together. Fixed that, neutral light came on again, and she fired right up. Rode around for roughly 15-30 minutes without a problem and then it slowly died. It will crank and fire if I hold the throttle wide open, but won't stay running without WOT. Makes me think i may have sucked some trash out of the tank into the carb.
  11. Just picked up a Moto 4 cheap, been sitting a few years, but had it running pretty quick. Not sure on the year or size, haven't found where it's stamped at. Cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel lines, cranked for a bit and had it running. Drove it around the farm a few times and then all of a sudden, it was as if you had reached up and turned the switch off. Replaced the battery, the old one was just something the previous owner had laying around. Also replaced the solenoid, as i just happened to have a new one laying around. So far the neutral switch light doesn't come on with the switch on and in neutral. I've checked all the connections I could find and fixed a couple of wires that were pieced together. I have 12v to the solenoid, and if i jump the terminals it will crank, just nothing when I hit the starter switch. As far as checking the regulator, coil, switch, etc. I know my way around a multimeter, just don't know how to check it out or any readings to look for. Any Ideas?
