  1. yeah its got yamalube 10-40 in it. im almost 100 percent sure they are right. the barnett kit i got instructions just read to soak the plates for 30 min before installing them. it had no other instructions with it. called barnett the guy said the small plates are first and last plate

Is the small plate the metal ones? I'm almost positive the fiber/friction plate is first and last. This thread seems to back me up. According to some of the posters there are two plates that are different from the rest...they go first and last. If you give me a plate count of each plate (both fiber/friction and metal) I'll tell you which one goes first.

It's been about 20 years since I have been inside of a bike gearbox!

Back in the day we used to clean the plates with mineral spirits and sand them with fine paper to get a "new" friction surface on them. If the basket had wear we would remove it and file the edges down where the fiber plates would hit the basket and notch it. This was a cheap fix for a worn basket and clutch. We also use to put washers under the clutch springs to stiffen them up so that a worn clutch would grab better.

  2. The only problem I see with using a quad to pull a mower is the lack of an open differential...a quad destroys lawns/grassed areas. Too bad the manufactures didn't design them with a bit more utility in mind and provide a locker in the rear for when you needed it.

I use my Vinson and Recon in the yard more than I use it for pleasure...they have both been work horses pulling trailers, yard carts and moving sod. As long as you make long turns the damage to the lawn is minimal...but when your lawn is maintained at 1/2" with a reel mower the damage shows up more.

  3. We got some riding in on Saturday but left early Sunday morning because we couldn't sleep due to drucnk Latinos playing Latino music until about 4 am. On the other side of us was a drunk family with 2 underage girls singing until 3 am. Since I am a morning person I decided to wake everyone up getting firewood at 6 am and loading quads while the drunks were still sleeping, I'm sure they were pretty pissed.

We will return hopefully before the seAson is out, there is some really good riding there.

  4. ok so i bought a 07 suzuki vinson brand new from the dealer. i currently have 120 miles on it thats all. Took my atv out so Tionesta, PA this weekend about a 2 1/2 hour trip. It rained on sat for about an hour, mean time my atv sat under a tree wating for the cold rain to go away. So rain stops wipe the very little amount of water off the atv. go to fire it up gauges come on push start button. Hear the starter relay hum and no start... ok maybe just battery low. pull start and go on my way. get 2 seconds down the trail. Hit my brakes and my gauge cluster shuts off and flickers and goes crazy. let off the brakes it comes back on... continues doing this for about 8 hours. night time rolls around go for a night ride. same ordeal no elec start and gauges not working but now my headlights are barely on and flickering... i thought atvs were suppose to take a beating and keep on rolling. this gets a lil rain on it and goes haywire. Isnt the cluster suppose to be waterproof or at least water resistant? any suggestions what to do with this thing? im very unhappy with it right now. Should i just take back to dealer and shove it down his throat for selling me this or what? i have what the dealer called a 6 month bumper to bumper warranty? any suggestions would be great. Thanks for any help

Did you get this problem worked out? I just bought the same quad, brand new and zero probs out of mine...I assume yours was a leftover from 2007 like mine.

  5. Thanks for the quick reply. I think you offered the best suggestion.

I understand that the cluch basket is most likely a bevel cut gear which could cause a slapping against the Inner bearing mating surface at an idle, especially a rather large engine single cylinder at that...not the smoothest engine by any means or not like a vtwin.

  6. I just purchased this machine as a brand new machine from a dealer as a left over, full warranty and 18 miles on it.

At an idle you can hear a rattling noise which is disturbing to a person who used to be an auto mechanic. I got out my stethoscope (pry bar up to my ear) and the sound appears to be coming from the rear part of the transmission where the clutch basket would be. I read somewhere else on the internet that its the bevel gear and its normal and I just want to make sure. My machine is still under warranty so I can take it back if needed but if anyone with a Vinson can verify that their machine is/was making the same noise I will feel better about it and may still take it to the shop for an inspection.

So far I am very happy with the machine, the handling is great, the power is more than what I need and its ability to go just about anywhere its wheels are pointed are all pluses for me. Last weekend I pulled out 2 swamped quads at the same time so it has some pulling power in low range. My only complaint so far was the rear brake squeaking which I have seemed to fix by disassembling the rear brake and applying anti-seize to the contact points on the caliper for the brake pads. If I had to complain about one more thing it would be the the gear ratio in reverse, its just not as low as I would like and it does not get lower even in low range.
