2004 350 Bruin caliper mounting problem

Hello! I don't own any ATVs but I am into everything else mechanical. The reason for my post is a co-worker who has a bunch of ATVs but is not mechanically inclined or like to post on forums has a 2004 Yamaha 350 Bruin that hasn't ran in a several years because of a mechanically issue. I told him I'd help him get it running. The float valve and jets probably need to be cleaned in the carburetor which shouldn't be a big deal.

I have not seen it but here is the problem he describes.

The piece that the caliper bolts to broke at some point. I don't know if this is a simple caliper bracket like on a car or it's the control arm or what this piece is.

So he bought an OEM part off Ebay. Afterwards the upper caliper bolt holes don't line up. So for awhile he left just the bottom bolt holding the caliper in place but says eventually the caliper moves about and starts rubbing the inside of the wheel.

The way he talks the lower bolt holes line up but the other one is off by half and inch or so.

He wanted to see if we could enlarge the hole in the caliper or enlarge the hole in the bracket and use a larger diameter bolt and nut so the holes would line up but that sound dodgy and I don't think a person should have to modify an OEM part to make it fit.

I told him perhaps there was a design change mid-year or got sent the wrong part to begin with and he needs to find the correct part.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Well we got the Bruin fixed. Took the carburetor off and gave it a good cleaning. This has to be the most complicated carburetor I've ever seen outside a Rochester Quadrajet! I did not have a good feeling but after cleaning the jets it no longer cuts out and backfires under full throttle. Cleaning gummed up carburetors on stuff sitting around with 5 years of evaporated fuel seems to be hit or miss.

Now onto the front end. Turns out the kingpin was the correct part, everything else was boogered up.

Turned out the rotor and the caliper mounting bracket were bent from where the kingpin had broke. That was why the bottom hole in the caliper bracket did not line up with the kingpin. Also the rotor had wore a groove into caliper, almost through one of the pad pins, halfway through the other and sheared off the peg and the bolt in the caliper mounting bracket.

So we got a used hub with rotor + lug nuts, caliper mounting bracket, new pads and a new pad pin ($9.00!). $72 in mostly used parts.

Yamaha's front brake caliper diagram does not show the bolt. I called the local Yamaha place and the guy seemed clueless at first but lead me to believe you had to buy the entire caliper to get it. OUCH!

So I had to improvise. I would NOT want to do this on car. I had cut 10 mm of this bolt off, install a bunch of nuts, grind the edges off so the caliper wouldn't wobble then to apply Locktite to the threads and adjust the bolt until the caliper was not in a bind. So far so good but I'd still like to fix it right.

The larger piece below is what I need to fix it right.

This link says this piece will not fit a Bruin 350 but it looks exactly like the part. But you know how Ebay's cross reference guide is. Yeah it may only fit a Raptor but it may also fit a Bruin but the seller does not indicate that it does.

Any idea if this bolt will fit a Bruin?

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

      Hi guys
My 87 Bear 350 won't start and could use a hand.
Turn key on and Oil light turns on and then slowly fades out. (I think this is key to this) No start, not even a tick.
      battery and connections good
A Solenoid post jump turns it over
Neutral Safety Switch wire attached and seems good
It has not had a wire/switch on Rear Brake Pedal ever since I had it.
Any thoughts on some other things to troubleshoot this??
