Yamaha 1997 Big Bear CDI Pin out

Recommended Posts

Im new to the group and hope to find some help here. I have a 1997 Yamaha Big Bear 4x4. I am having ignition issues. I have checked all switches to the CDI box and all check out. I Replaced The pick up coil and stator, as the pick up coil was open, no continuity. My problem is I can't find a schematic that matches what I have. My CDI has 2 plugs one 4 pin with 3 wires going to it, and the other is an 8 pin with 7wires going to it. I have traced all but one it is solid blue on the 8 pin plug. I have no idea where it disappears to with out tearing apart the harness. Any ideas as to what this wire goes to? A pin out of the cdi would be helpful, The number on it is F8T32372. Any other ideas before I try and find a new CDI. Thanks for any help. Robert

Hi, Did you still need help with your Big Bear?  Sorry to hear about your ignition problems.  Did you download the service manual for your machine?  Not sure of your engine size, this might help:

https://www.quadcrazy.com/files/file/313-1997-1999-yamaha-big-bear-350-service-manual/

You'll need 10 posts on here before you can download, I might be able to help with that if needed.....:o)

Let me know if I can further assist - Cheers!~  Bellarmine

Have a look here and see if you can identify your model..  Partzilla will tell you what any part you choose will also fit.. Look the part up, choose the part like you are going to buy it, and they will take you to a new page where it tells you what other models that wiring fits. If your wiring fits some other model, then the other model wiring will fit your bike. You can check their opinion by doing the same process in the other site.

So I have an 89 Yamaha moto 4 250cc and when I ride it, itll get hot after like 10-15 mins and then will just die and turn off.
It's has new carb rebuild, new air filter, new battery, new spark plug so I don't think it's a crack in the spark plug
      Can anyone help me?

Oil is getting in the air box from crankcase vent tube, I put the two hoses that go to the air box together then something started to smoke on the front of the engine. There is a filter? In the line I blew that out.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?
