2002 Bear Tracker timing chain noise, poor idle- tensioner failure?

At the end of last summer, my 02 Bear Tracker began to run poorly- long story short, the air box cover HAS to be on and sealed... now it runs ok, except it idles poorly, and I began to hear a "chik" noise on deceleration. This has become obvious chain noise hot. Runs great at throttle, poorly at idle. I pulled the cam cover- and the chain has no appreciable slop.... could this be a failing ratchet in the tensioner? Anyone seen this? I'm about to pull the tensioner. I COULD install a manual one, but if the factory one lasts several years, I may go back that way. I'd rather ride than wrench. FYI- ASE Master since 82, blah blah blah- small engines are NOT my bag. All replies GREATLY appreciated!

Anybody familiar with this noise from my quad? Just started.  It temporarily goes away when I attempt to shift into another gear but shifting has gotten harder too.

      Thanks

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hey guys and gals. I've been working on my friends 2007 big bear IRS. Unfortunately after 3 different people got their hands on it and only made things worse every time.  After months of finding just crazy problems everywhere. I'm finally at the point we're its almost 100% !!! But I'm getting a short somewhere between the 4xW switch I believe. I managed to by searching the internet like a  fiend, got my hands on an official Yamaha wire harness for the year and make. But I don't have the numbered component list and to be honest. After hours of going through and making everything so it's  easy to reference. If anyone has a picture of the referenced components. I would be forever in your debt. I've spent hours marking up the blown up diagram so it will be easy, for any possible future repairs. Please and thank you. Here's a picture of what i have so far.  Unsealed it in plastic so oil and crap won't spill or get smudged. This damn things worth it's weight in gold.              Thanks Jeff                2007 Yamaha big bear 400 IRS.       YFM40FBW

I have replaced the cracked stator cover on my non-running 2006 LT-F400F that I purchased recently, checked all the shafts vs the service manual and pics and advice here.  I replaced missing gears, bushings and washers, made sure that truth marks were all aligned properly, that the shift cam springs felt like they returned properly, etc.  IAfter installing the new stator cover I checked the transfer lever for proper movement from L-H-R and then cranked it up.  Happily, it runs and changes gears well in L,  but it will not shift into H or R for anything.  I have opened it back up and am going back through it looking for the missing puzzle piece(s) but how can I best check that I have everything right this time before buttoning it back up?

Need a little help fixing a no spark issue. 2002 BT with the 2 wire ignition switch. I have 4 stators and 2 CDI's and 3 coils to test. The new stator reads 218 ohm, and .2 ohm, the one that came out of it reads 50K and .2, the other is 132 and .2. All of the coils are 0.00 ohm, and there is no way to test the CDI that I know. I have also confirmed the replacement stator pins match the factory locations. I did try to test milli-volts at the coil to see if it was getting any signal from the CDI but nope. IDEAS?
