on my left brake handle (for the rear brakes) there's two wires attached to it. What are these wires for? They can't be for the tail light, since it only has on filament  I tried to trace them, but i got lost in the harness. I checked wiring schematics, but didn't see anything like that.

I'll post a pic later.

It's a brake light switch, and if it['s working it lets you start the bike in gear.. Which is handy sometimes.

ha....so, it doesn't light up the brake light, it's just a play on words.

next time i'm on it, i'll have to check it out.  thanks!!!!

On some models it would put a brake light on as well.

it's also possible, as a safety feature, that it might hamper the running of the engine if the handbrake/parkbrake was on. So you notice the brake's on and don't burn it out.

as always, you were right...iot allowed me to start with it in gear as long as i had that handle squeezed.

Cool. That's handy if the engine stops in second or more gear.. Or on a steep hill in gear and you can't get it out of gear.. Pull the handle and go..

And you could try, just so you know, and me, put the front brake on so the switch is closed, then try driving..  If it has the safety feature to protect the park brake then it will start cutting out and then going again.. like a rev limiter.

Oh..  That front brake I mentioned that might make the engine rev limit isn't right..  I meant to say the front brake lever that puts the park brake on, so the left lever..  not the right/front brake lever.

The start inhibit can be over ridden by applying a brake light, right lever or foot pedal.

Hi, I am new to this forum I am currently working on my 1989 Yamaha front end.  The cv axles were bad so I changed them on both sides with all new wheel bearings. Now I'm looking at the front brakes and the 2 cylinders for the brake shoes on both sides do not work at all. I am also new at working on brakes so its a mystery to me what needs to be done to fix the cylinders.  Can somebody please help me with these brake issues? See the image below.
      Thank you,
      Olchap
