Hi, I am new to this forum I am currently working on my 1989 Yamaha front end.  The cv axles were bad so I changed them on both sides with all new wheel bearings. Now I'm looking at the front brakes and the 2 cylinders for the brake shoes on both sides do not work at all. I am also new at working on brakes so its a mystery to me what needs to be done to fix the cylinders.  Can somebody please help me with these brake issues? See the image below.

Thank you,

Olchap

Wow that's interesting. Two(2) cylinders. The brakes don't look rusty abused.  Gwbarm and the Canadian dude on this site  are very knowledgeable.   Rebuild kits and honing the cylinders would be cheapest...I have bought Yamaha brake part$$$ Oh My!.

Everything looks very clean in there, like they may have been replaced recently , whats going on, are the cylinders leaking or just wont build pressure or stuck. IF the seals are jusy stuck you may be able to  keep working with them with fresh fluid to free them up, if you have to take them apart put in a kit or replace them , you can usually find aftermarket wheel cylinders cheaper than the kit and the aftermarket ones work fine. You just have to remove the old one replace it and reinstall the brake line. If you use the kit you have to take it all apart hone the cylinder clean it all up and reinstall the rubber parts and spring that comes in the kit.

Gwbarm, thanks for replying.  After I posted yesterday I tried to get the cylinders apart and it a no go.  They are frozen on both sides.  I tried to get both ends out of the cylinder and they will not come out.  I sprayed break away on them and left them to soak.  I will be working on the brakes again tomorrow. I looked up cylinders on Amazon and 4 for $150 they are from China.  Will these work?

I looked at disconnecting the cylinders yesterday I see a coper line and a rubber hose that attaches to the cylinders.  That rubber line has a crypt end on it .  How do I get that off?

Thank you - Olchap

Gwbarm will know..

I had to replace several parts on my Yamaha. It is a 2017 model.  However with the model number / serial # i was able to look up OEM yamaha parts non line.  Hence, I was able to get Yamaha's part numbers.  Then I went on EBAY and got one part and it had the Yamaha part number.    Brand new part at less than 1/3 $.  Likewise I got another part from Amazon; again ordering and making sure the part had the Yamaha part number.....Just saying.  I like OEM parts but not the $.

GwBarm, Thank you for recommending OEM parts I will look at Ebay.  Again how do I get the hose off the back of the cylinders it is crimped.  The only thing I can think of is cut it off and when I am putting it back together use a hose clamp.

Thats interesting been a while since i worked on a non caliper hydrawlic brake system. The rubber line should screw into the wheel cylinder if not it must be made onto it, if you look further down the line it should unccrew somewhere, you can cut it and clamp it, i dont like doing that just somewhere else to leak, but it needs to screw into the new cylinder or does the new ones come with the hose built in or just a place for it. I will see if i can look at a manual later today. That seems aa little pricy for chinese wheel cylinders, but if it comes with the hose thats OK but they should work fine. It may be only a few years that they were made that way which drives the part price up.

It appears that the rubber line is all put together with spring clamps and then there is the crossover line between the two cylinders if yours is crimped on you can cut it and use a spring clamp to reattach depending on how it aattaaches to the cylinders you buy.

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!
