I have a '07 YFZ 450 that sat most of this is winter and got It out today. I was really surprised it started right up, after i let it run for a bit i was off. Shortly after I noticed what I would say is a sticking throttle cable. I had no time to investigate it. it would hold a higher rev and then back off when I used the clutch/brakes, but this would not always work. I was wondering if this is a common problem with the YFZ or do I sound right?

Also I had read somewhere that if your header pipe glows red that it might be a sign that your carb is not adjusted correctly to the lean side as there a tutorial some where that I could read on Carb adjustment and a Diagram of a YFZ carb?

you can see it in a darker setting. but i know it does it all the time. My concern for this is that, the thread concerning this mentioned premature upper head and valve wear, due to running lean

What Bot said. Lube your cables, and check they are not getting caught up anywhere and the slack is set correctly. 450s idle high anyway, so it could be normal..hard to tell not hearing it though. Probably needs rejetted, especially if it's still stock settings.

jetting theory

manual

Do you need a diagram for jetting? Just loosen the clamps on the boots, spin it so you can reach the 17mm cover on the bottom, remove that and you will see your main and pilot jets. Take them out and put bigger ones in (i.e. 165 main 45 pilot or whatever size works best). You should also pop the plug blocking your mixture screw and put an aftermarket one in

no its never had jets put in. but i noticed that the throttle cable moves out from the carb and as far as i can tell its not soposed to. i think there is a retaining/ lock nut that loosened and is holding open the throttle. what i need is a diagram of the carb.

I don't think that if the nut loosened up on the carb it would hold it open, it would actually make it slack and less apt to throttle response. The spring in the carb will pull the cable back when in idle.

I would definitely rejet if it is still stock (notoriously bad stock jetting), I'm about 95% sure it is running lean now. Average setting for these is usually around 165 main 45 pilot and 2.5 turns out on the fuel screw, that will get you in the ballpark.

I'd just try to google a download for the trx manual, I'm sure they are out there.

for the trx i just like to know what im dealing with. theres no problem with it or anything. I'm an engenering student and wanted to compare the 2. The YFZ manual shows that there is 2 nuts on the throttle cable outside and inside the carb. I can pull the throttle cable ALL the way past the end of the threads and see bare cable. so the inside one has to be loose and just binding up. i would say that the throttle is held open 1/16 of the way, at random times. I'm not going to have time to open the cover and look at it till tonight. If you want to see some pictures of it, i need a lesson on how to post pics.

This 2006 ArticCat dvx400 didn't have a reverse cable. I got one and am wondering how it routes? If someone has a dvx400, could post a pic of there reverse cable routing, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I picked up this ATV that had no spark. The previous owner said he was driving it and it died and would not start. He discovered it had no spark. He replaced the CDI and the coil with no luck. He got tired of it and I bought it. I replaced the stater and now it has strong spark. Now, it starts for a second or two then dies. It will not stay running. I have checked the timing and it is spot on. The valves are adjusted correctly. I see no warn issues with the cam. I put the original CDI and coil back on it. Same problem exists. Compression is at 65 psi (has decompression mechanism),
I took off the muffler in case the issue was clogged pipes. No change. I replaced the spark plug. No change. The carb was an aftermarket so I put a Niche carb on with no change. I bypassed the fuel pump and that did nothing to solve the problem.
I don't know if this is a carb issue or an ignition issue. I am looking around locally for an OEM carb to try out but not sure that will fix the problem.
Can anyone help me solve this problem. I am running out of ideas.
      Thank you for your time

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.

Okay so I bought this 1997 sazuki king quad from a guy and he had it for a few years.
He had it registered and on the trails last year but he said it bogged and backfired when he would try to drive it. so it sat for a year.
I bought it for 800 bucks and got it running that night and it ran great for a few days
But I parked it the other night and went to start it again and it was really hard to fire up and when I did it was bogging and idling high then low again.
So I took the carb out and cleaned it (ended up doing it twice because it was still doing the same thing)
Now today I have it running slightly better, but it is still like 20%
I have been looking it up and trying to figure it out but I can't find the issue, has anyone else had this problem? I'll attach a video of it running and giving some throttle
