The pull start rope broke on my sportsman. I replaced the rope and put it back together. The issue is when I use the pull start it yanks the rope out of my hand like it's backfiring. I thought at first that I had the coil spring too tight, but I set it up so that the coil spring was basically useless to see if it would still yank the rope out of my hand, and it does. Any thoughts on why it would have such a violent recoil?

The only time I have ever had that happen to me, it was a lawnmower and the flywheel key had sheared off so the ignition timing was off, causing the kick back. Is there another way to start the ATV? If so, does it run ok?

Once it's started it runs okay. It take a couple of dicey pulls to get it to fire, but once it's going it's fine. I don't think its a backfire, because there's no backfire from the engine. It just yards the pull start out of my hand like it has a serious recoil. The coil spring is not over wound, it just seems that the pullstart doesn't disengage after you've pulled the cord. I use to be able to pull on the starter and if the bike didn't start it was no big deal, but now it whips the starter out of my hand, and it loosens the bolt that holds the disc and coil spring in place. I've put everything back together the way is shows in the schematic... it just doesn't disengage after each pull.

I have a similar problem with one of my quads, it has a CR 500 motor in it, and when that sucker kicks back, it feels like it is going to launch me over the front of the quad. I would try to lubricate all moving parts in the pull starter. If that doesn't work, I am guessing it would be best for your hand to replace any parts that seem to be getting worn, mainly the ratchet and it's return spring, and maybe the friction plate behind the ratchet and the funny looking friction spring.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

How to replace throttle assembly spring?

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

I am having an issue with a hs500. I bought it broken and have been trying to get it running. It seems to be starving for fuel. If I put my hand over the intake it will crank but will not run for very long because I'm not able to get the correct airflow with my hand. The things I have done so far are. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, mass airflow sensor, idle air adjuster, fuel injector, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the ecu, and still the same issue. I notice the injector does not spray when removed from the head. I dont know if that is common.

I am out of ideas on what to do next. I have removed the fuel line from the injector and it is getting plenty of fuel. If anyone has an idea on what could possibly be the issue I would be happy to try anything at this point.

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!
