I have a 1993 or 1994 suzuki quadrunner 250 2x4 It starts up and runs but you cant get into the throttle much before it starts to die. When you go it seems flat because you cant give it much throttle. when it was running right I had it out one night and it got hot and the header pipe was glowing red I'm thinking maybe the muffler or header pipe might be clog of the carb needs cleaned any suggestions?

I think both of things could legitimately be your problem, however, it could be a million other things as well. If the machine has been sitting for a while, I would drain the gas and clean the carb, and by clean, I mean take it COMPLETELY apart and clean EVERYTHING. If the problem has been kind of progressive, I would start by checkin the vavle lash and doing a compression test. You can check the exhuast easy enough, so you might as well do that too if there are things that lead you to believe that it may be plugged. I would also try checking for air leaks, and make sure your filter is clean. A new spark plug is also a good idea. BTW, what does your old plug look like, the condition of your plug is often a good indicator.

After i did my rebuild it seems to not want to shift well. I think the cable is alright, and when it does shift its nice and solid. I have to basically use my hand to shift and i have to pull or push it very far, like max travel, to get it to shift. I also tried adjusting the clutch set screw. Any ideas where to go next, or maybe i should just grab a new cable to try.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?
