I have the 250 QuadRunner which slips out of 4wd with selector in 4wd position. In diff lock position there is NO slipping. Selector arm on diff seems to be in sync with control lever/selector. Pops out and goes right back in and is worse pulling a load. Any ideas?

I wish I could give a more specific guess as to what seems to be wrong, but it seems to me that the primary engagement mechanism for the front diff is worn somehow. Could be a sloppy bearing allowing too much movement and bumping the diff out of engagement with the input shaft. There are alot of possible causes from what I can tell, but I don't know alot about how these machines work. This particular 4wd system that Suzuki uses is unlike any I have ever seen. Somehow, it seems that locking the diff keeps that engagement intact. The way I would go about figuring out the problem if it were my machine is - (A) buy a repair manual and look through the diagrams of the front diff and 4wd system, check out the troubleshooting guide to try and get an idea of what might be going wrong before I - (B) Take the front diff apart and look for visual evidence of damaged or worn components. Hopefully someone with some knowledge of this particular drive system will chime in with some more helpful info. Until then, good luck.

Thanks Josh, we use this machine almost exclusively as a work horse. Hate to have it down for any period of time, but I guess we are going to have to dig into it. Good project for my 12/14 yr old sons and myself.

      I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
      What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
      Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?

      Howdy ya'll. I am working ona 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125. It was in rought shape when I received it and I am working through issues as they pop up. The quad had been sitting for years. I was able to get her running again, but I need your help with the following issue:
      I don't trust the transmission yet and I don't want to make problems any worse. So, I haven't pushed things hard at all. Low rpms, less than 5mph in reverse.

      Nuetral: Runs as expected
      Reverse: She seems to be driving fine at slow speeds. Going into reverse at idle is fine, coming out of reverse back into neutral won't work (the shifter is just stuck). As soon as I turn off the quad, I am able to shift around without any issue.
      Forward: It slips. It seems to only transfer power to the wheels on a smooth surface and going slightly downhill. When shifting into forward at idle, there is a clacking sounds during the transition. Shifting back to nuetral works just fine.

      Other Notable Symptoms: There was old oil in the vbelt and when I was tuning the carb, it starting blowing out of the CVT cooling vent at the front of the quad. Made quite a mess. There is positive crankcase pressure due to piston blowby, that I have not decided whether or not I am going to fix (customer budget dependant).  Since the oil was old, much darker than the new oil that is in the crankcase, I am thinking it seeped past a bad seal while it was sitting for years. The oil that was in it when I first got it had gas in it.

      Thoughts: I am thinking maybe there is an issue with the clutch. I worry about the old oil intermingling with the dry centrifugal clutch. I was thinking my next step would be to take the cover off of the clutch and inspect it.

      Let me know what you all think. Any advice and ideas is greatly appreciated. This is only the 3rd quad I have worked on and I have a lot to learn.

      I was looking to buy a new ATV. 
      I was debating between Polaris sportsman 450 and Honda rancher.
      Polaris it a bit cheaper.
      But can you tell me which one will have more demand on the used market? Which one will keep it's value better?
       
      Let's say 3-5 years from now.

      Good Morning!
      Has anyone had a problem with the small aluminum 90 degree elbow popping out of the valve cover and blowing oil all over the place? It looks like it is simply pressed in and will most certainly repeat the offense. Any experience you all can share with this issue?

      I am looking for a PDF version of a manual for a Suzuki Quadrunner 250.  I am not sure of the year, but believe it is a late 1990s model.
