Splitting the case on a KFX450R

Hey guys has anyone ever split the case on a KFX450R I am going to attept doing mine this weekend never done this but I do have a service manuel so hopefully I can figure it out, if you have done this and know of any pointers let me know thanks!

First of all go buy a splitting tool, it make life much easier... split it on its side with one side facing down so when it comes apart your transmission stays in place... Done a few motors and its no big deal just take your time and dont use a pry bar... aluminum breaks!!!!!!!!!!

So true, the case spitting tool makes things much easier. They are expensive though, I priced one for my CR 500 motor, and the thing was like $180 if I remember correctly. I just made my own, I make alot of my own specialty tools. Here is the one I made, alot of money can be saved with a welder and cutting tools.

Also, be careful with the tranny, you don't want the gears coming off the shafts, it is a real pain to figure out what goes where if things come apart. I have learned that one the hard way.

Well i went for it and it wasnt to bad I used a Tusk crankcase spliter it worked great and wasnt to expensive just took my time and it actually went alot better then expected, thanks for all the info and advice!

I have the tusk brand splitter too, as well as their crank puller/installer... pretty good tools for the price...

I agree I purchased the smae parts to do this project and they worked great and were defintly the cheapiest I found.
