  4. I really like my Kawasaki KFX 450 R it is fuel injected and offers reverse which is nice if you are a woods /desert racer but I really think any of the 450's are a great bike anymore its a matter of opinon because they are all so close as far as performance goes.
  5. Do you know if he is running a full synthetic oil? if so that would be why the clutch would be slipping, I still cant decide but my wife likes the looks of the 2009 so we will proably go that route.

  16. Hey guys has anyone ever split the case on a KFX450R I am going to attept doing mine this weekend never done this but I do have a service manuel so hopefully I can figure it out, if you have done this and know of any pointers let me know thanks!
  17. I made a tool out of some black wall pipe, just notched it out with a die grinder and it worked great now I got the motor out and just need to split the case so I can pull the crank and have it rebuilt.
  18. Ok according to the service manuel you take a nut off then there should be a lock nut looks more like a washer but it has 4 notches in it that is the part I need to get off thanks!!
  19. Hey Guys I am getting ready to pull the swingarm bolt out of my machine so i can pull the motor out so i can split the case and have the crank rebuilt I am running into one problem though on the swingarm bolt that goes through the rear of the motor there is a lock nut that looks kind of like a castle nut it has four prongs I am guessing there is some sort of a special tool to get this out anyone know where I would find this or any suggestions on how it comes out?
  20. I bought it new I am just a idiot and got in two big of a hurry and put the oil filter in backwards which restriced the oil flow and wiped out the bottom bearing in the rod hopefully that is all that is wrong with it so far everything looks good and I am going to split the case this weekend so I can pull the crank and get it rebuilt, after riding and working on bikes&atvs for over 20years you would think I could atleast change the oil I cant belive I made such a dumb mistake but I guess that is one expensive mistake that tought me to slow down and make sure things are done right, I hope I will be sure to never make this mistake again.
  21. Sounds a little high to me but sometimes it's worht paying a little more for a machine that has not been abused and has been well taken care of. I would look around a little more and if you look hard enough you will find that machine that has been taken care of and for the right price, good luck!!
  22. Figured it out it is the bearing in the lower part of the connecting rod that hooks to the crank now I am just baffeled at why this happend had fresh oil and only 30 hrs on the machine should have lasted longer then that I would have thought.
  23. Hey guys I have a 2008 KFX 450R and just got a new FCI intake installed on it and went out for the first trip of the year to the little sierra sand dunes unfortunetly I didnt get to ride very long, I started to notice it seemed like I was loosing power so I came to a stop and then went to go again and had to rev the machine pretty high to take off almost like I was in 4th gear trying to start out but I was in 1st gear then shortly after the noise begun, rattle and knock almost sounded like the entire motor was going to blow into pices so I shut her down took it home and tore it down took the head and cylinder off and the valves cylinder piston crank everthing looks good I thought for sure with all the racket I had to have sucked a valve or broke the connecting rod but no its all in great shape also keep in mind the machine only has around 30 hours on it. any ideas should I just put it back together??? and see what happens im baffeled thanks for any input or help!!!
  24. Turned out not to be to bad it is a pretty tight fit but that is a good thing the only thing I dont like about it is everytime you need to clean your filter you have to pull your rear fender and air box but it is worth the power increase, I took it out this week end and it was awesome until I lost all power and the motor started makeing a heck of a nosie rattle and knock I am going to make a new post to see if anyone has any ideas but as far as the intake goes It is pretty sweet now I just got to get my quad running again so I can enjoy it.
  25. Got my FCI intake today cant wait to put it on and see what kind of power gains it gives, if anyone is familer with this install and knows any tips let me know, I image it wont be to bad.
